I just saw an FC the other day that was very clean and clearly wasn't rotary powered by the sound of it, they're still around, you just have to look for them is all. My last one hit all its power goals but had some weird ass electrical/ecu issues that I basically gave up on attempting to fix. You are right though, I don't look too hard for them.
