Mountain bike help

So I ended up selling my Giant Youkon FX last fall and now im really itching to get back to a new bike and im a bit stuck on what I would like I know for sure I want a 29er and ive narrowed it down to 3 different bikes. Price ranges of the 3 but im not against spending money for quality if if its going to support my weight.

The three bikes im looking at are the Giant Talon 29er 2, Jamis Exile 1 and the Felt nine sport. Ive ridden the nine sport and loved how it rode even with the frame that I rode being way to big for me. I really like the Jamis 1, however, I have not gotten to ride it yet and the bike shop cant get one in until mid may so its going to be a while before I can get to ride it.

the giant is well a giant, Im not a huge fan of the color scheme they went with on the bike but it doesent matter that much. You cant judge a bike on its color right?

Im more leaning toward the Felt or the Jamis, I never had a good experience with my old Giant because the chain kept slipping as I pedaled.

Mainly looking for some more input on what I should be considering.

I would say go with the Felt. It has better brakes and a better fork. If I had to rank them it would be Felt, Jamis, Giant. That giant has the crappiest brakes known to man and I would NEVER ride a bike with them. I put the felt over the jamis because of better components.

You may want to check out a trek or gary fisher. Picked up a Wahoo (26") last weekend and I was pretty happy with the setup.

Gary Fisher is now owned by Trek, so I'm going to guess that'll they'll be very similar bikes. Cant go wrong with either one though.

Also check out Seven, very very nice bikes, little spendy but if you wait to buy last years models you can get very very good deals on them.

Can anyone recommend a good bike for just regular riding. I dont want a mountain bike but dont want a road bike. Is there anything in between?

Trek or Specialized is what I would chose.

They make what they call cyclocross bikes that are a mix of the two and can be had with upright handle bars.

What I did was take my Trek 820 and put "road" style tires on it when I did plenty of on the road riding.

I havent ordered one just yet, The bike shop is ordering all 3 that way i get to ride it before i decide. I rode a 19'' flet nine sport and really liked it other than its size. Im still kinda looking at that Trek GF Mamba too as well.
