So for the 11th year in a row we packed up the family to head up to our property in Oregon kicked around there a little bit and then headed up to into Washington. This year was spectacular weather wise with highs in the low 80's and lows in the 50's. We had a blast. We held off on our trip to Seattle and across the boarder into Victoria because we just plain wanted to have fun taking it slow.

10 days of fun including trips to Mt. Hood, Mt St. Helens, The Columbia River Gorge, Various places of fun in the Cascades, and Sun River for some horseback riding and white water rafting. The Caldera Springs Resort inside Sun River is a five star place and lives up to it. The home we stayed in was great. It was 6 bedrooms and plenty of room for our family, my brother in law and his and relatives from Japan too.

Good times were had.

Crater Lake is the most beautiful crisp clean place in Oregon. This year we took a boat ride out to Wizard Island too. First time we've done that. Well worth it. One of the Panorama's I took was 8 shots wide at 16mm. HUGE!

I've been going to Mt. St. Helen's since I was in college. I was ten years old when it blew and love the history behind this place.

^^ View from our helicopter ride into the crater and all around the site.

dang man, took some of those same shots today! but you're going to make my look bad, lol.

it'll be a week or so till i process them. However I used my variable density filter and was able to get a 6 second shutter speed so the waterfalls have some nice motion. :)

Can't wait to see them! I couldn't control shutter on the water as all but the one was taken with my brother in law's point and shoot Olympus. :dumb:

I just saw those falls for the first time last summer. I was only in Portland for >48 hours for work tough. I really want to spend more time in that town sometime. I also want to do PNW tour, hit up all of the sates in that area. So, nice pictures, and needless to say I'm a little jealous!

Is that a time share kinda thing or something? If not, give me the address. I'm your new caretaker. :)

Love the pics. It's almost impossible to take a bad pic of the NW it seems. haha

I've lived and traveled all over the US, but the NW, though it's always been at the top of my list (almost, almost moved to Humboldt years ago) I've never had the oppurtunity to visit or live there. It IS still on the top of my list and I WILL go there. Hell, I've moved half way across the country more than once on a whim and a night's sleep. haha Now, I have two very good friends from different times of my life living a couple hours from each other in Washington.

Investment property. We own an 8,000sq.ft. medical building which is where my brother/sister in law have their practice. We also own an 8 unit apartment behind it. Was a package deal. Caretaker/property mgt guy is a tenet :)

It's on my bucket-list to retire there. We will live there soon. No better place IMO. You can be in on the Ocean, in the dessert, mountains, in jungle, etc....all that within hours.

Tons to do outside and some of the best wildlife around. We saw a black bear on the road to my brother inlaws place, a cougar followed us on a hike (yeah, little scarey) but we were armed and he was more curious than anything...right up until he hear the warning shot :gabe: They have dear nesting in their yard too. Hell, I wanted to pop a wild turkey we saw in his garden but he wouldn't let me  He has five acres in the southern hillside of Eugene. Not cheap though, very nice custom home though, but for nearly $1M it better be.

OK so I couldn't wait any longer so here are some completely untouched 'teezar' shots, until I get to chopping them up.

Pics deleted as to not taint the final product. :)

Good times! Enjoy the trip man. Soak up the weather as August is the best time to travel up there. I always find it interesting to see the markers where come winter you will need studs or chains. Ohio people would freak with that much snow. :gabe:

Cool, just wondering. We've toyed around with the idea of moving out west, maybe Portland or Denver so I was wondering where they were.

Eugene is like Granville. Economy isn't great there. Logging is pretty much tapped out. Paper mills going but weak. Several larger business have moved. Yadda yadda.

Springfield is the same only more like a Grove City. My brother in law is big fish in little pond so to speak. They have very nice areas of town too though.

I'd live there for sure. Just gotta get my wife to take another Bar Exam :fuckyeah:

I kind of figured that was the case, which means it's a non-starter. I feel we need a relatively big city with a good tech industry, hence the possibility of places like Denver and to a lesser extent Portland. But I think I would like Portland as a city better so it stays on the dream list.

It is a nice place. Better location to travel from than say Seattle too. The reason for our trip is we closed on a property as a seller. It was a quick flip from a foreclosure. Market hasnt been hit nearly as hard in Oregon as here thus there are good deals to be found and still made. We were going to rent it but the client came through as a buyer instead. It was a relatively small/cheap sale of under a $100k. Lower risk really.

If you are considering it prices upmthere are back to 2001 levels. May dro some more still but again, look for the bargains. We're rolling the dice again on a little larger one this next time. Heading back there in late sept to check on a few options. I can bring back info if you wish.

View from Crowne Point towards Portland just after sunset. I-84, quite possibly one of the prettiest drives in the country through the Columbia River Gorge. Moar piks to come.

Wow. Those pics bring back memories. I grew up in Port Orchard, right across the water from Seattle and have been all over the Northwest. Once scenic spot you should def check out if ever over there is Hurricane Ridge, always was one of my favorite spots.

As far as real estate a d those considering moves to there, are the starter house costs around 300k in sketch areas? My BFF lives there and her husband is a teacher, and I was shocked at how much thier house cost.

I just got back fro Portland two weeks ago, and did no nature stuff. Seei g these shots make me regret it. I just was having too much fun with the kids I was visiting.

I wi go back though.
