What exhaust for Audi? Jones et al, get in here.

What aftermarket exhausts should I look into for the S5? I came across a couple of vids that got me wondering.

This one says Cargraphic w/ AWE downpipes. I've never heard of either, but it sounds pretty good:

Here's another, though I have no idea what this exhaust is. Maybe someone can ID it from the sound. The vid is long and the guys in it are quasi-annoying. You hear the exhaust at the beginning and then around 1:55 of the vid. (I think you can just skip the rest.)

Also, a concern: is there ever a drone at cruising, highway speeds with these aftermarket exhausts? I had aftermarket exhausts on other V8's (Cobra, Z06) and never had any issues with droning, but those are totally different cars/exhausts.

my buddy has the v8 S5, and we installed a billy boat for his car. i will admit, that its the best sounding V8 i've ever heard (i realize your car has the different motor). the fitment/quality/etc was absolutely perfect.

then i ordered a billy boat kit for my V, and had a nightmare experience--

i'll post a clip of the exhaust when i get home tonight

My S5 has the 4.2 V8 - isn't that the motor in your buddy's car? (The 2012 S5 convertibles come with the s/c V6, but the coupes don't.)

Milltek and AWE are big name in the Audi world. I'm a fan of AWE.

AWE without a doubt.

My ears end up liking them the most on almost any model.

My dad had the non res on his 05 4.2 v8 s4. Sounded awesome.

Yup,

AWE all the way for exhaust IMO.

Get the AWE Touring edition, sounds excellent with no drone, and will still scare the crap out of grandma when needed.

This is an exhaust that oooooozes pure class and refinement and has EXCELLENT sound quality, as you may realize from the video. We are an authorized dealer and installer!

If the Akrapovic isnt for you then I would also agree with Jones - AWE is great as well.

Yeah, you really aren't going to much of any anything *maybe 10hp on the high side*.

So make your decision based upon sound, style, and your ability to drive it daily without getting a headache.

I've never heard the Akrapovic in person, but they have a very good reputation.

Exhausts like the Fast Intentions try to eek out every HP, sometimes at the cost of drone. That's why AWE offers the "track" and "touring" editions. Track one is loud and crackling beast. The Touring is much more refined, and if you watch the video, no drone while driving down the street.

I would look at the APR RSC exhaust. I have their catback on my GTI, (yes I know completely different platforms) but it seems to be the least restrictive exhaust with the best tone on many platforms. Mine is fairly loud WOT but with absolutely no drone on the freeway and I dont run a cat (full 3"). The quality is better than anything else Ive seen (miltek, magnaflow, etc) The think their mufflers were designed by corsa irrc.

Watched the video - that exhaust sounds amazing. What button is he pushing? Is that like some kind of electronic cut-out?

Essentially it is like the new Z06's and has actuators in the exhaust which you can open and close to modulate exhaust decibel levels! Loud when you want it, and quiet when you want it. It is the best way!

That sounds (no pun intended) like something I'd definitely like.

yes. for some reason i thought your car had the blown 6 cylinder. i would highly recommend the billy boat kit. i'll have to ask him which one he has (don't know if there are different kits or not). he's had it on his car for well over a year, and it sounds absolutely incredible. i'll try to get a sound clip tonight, but that was from when we first installed it--it has opened up a bit, as far as sound goes, but is not intrusive. he would buy the same kit over again.

billy boat's are the shit, super loud though. i believe they are the de jour standard for the 911 crowd.

the quality of the product is incredible, i will admit. i had 'fitment' issues with their kit, and had to send it back---it was a huge hassle for me that ended up with me wanting to strangle the fuck out of the owner's son (mike boat). in the end, my kit sounds great but doesn't fit to my (or any reasonable person's) standards.

my buddy's S5 kit was the easiest catback i've ever installed and fit perfect--that's the whole reason why i went with BB.
