DaddyBuiltRacing
Picked out fabric to cover a seat with, picked up foam to build the seat out of. Just waiting on wheels and then this one is out of here and onto the next wagon I have lined up to build. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10476459_10152525651856907_5984641894749136406_n_zps1c631e8b.jpg

DaddyBuiltRacing
Thanks, I may have a little problem, this is my collection of wagons http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10447037_10152527456606907_4230598093717761626_n_zps85d5cc3d.jpg They include: (2) Radio Rocket's, these were aparently done for Disney (the blue ones in the back) 1970's AMF California Van (extremely rare) 1950's Radio Flyer Rex Jet (Looks to be from 1961 from what I have found online) Radio Jet Model 99 Radio Flyer (last model they were actually produced in the US) Plus others Wish I could find more info on this thing: http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/10456134_10152530682476907_6540873636591783124_n_zps6938f984.jpg
DaddyBuiltRacing
Well the wheels for my nieces wagon finally arrived. I have to get a sleeve machined up so they fit on the axles, but I know a guy locally that can do it. I think I am going to add another little sticker under the big one after she is born, sort of like a model number. I have had a lot of people hit me up about building these for them, so I think I am gonna start doing them. Not trying to advertise, but if anyone is interested in this, shoot me a pm and we'll talk http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10421146_10152557741876907_5399111927990700842_n_zps2ed8f7e4.jpg Edited July 3, 2014 by DaddyBuiltRacing
DaddyBuiltRacing
I am currently building a wagon for my brother in law who lives in Colorado. His father in law owns a 69 Camaro and wanted a wagon built with it in mind. This one isn't going to be anything super crazy as the budget is somewhat limited, but it should hopefully capture the car as best as possible, given what I have to work with. First the car: http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/10413347_243575572509185_2424183762648056305_n_zps38965c37.jpg Now on to the wagon stuff. Started out as a $20 beat up looking wagon that someone had spray painted over several times through out it's life. I had a set of wheels laying around that were a 5 star spoke style, that I felt fit this wagon better than the regular radio flyer wheels. Got it all mocked up, his approval, then torn down and sent off for sandblasting/powder coating http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10509597_10152535947806907_7475887956855783106_n_zpsfa666b38.jpg http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/10445970_10152535947846907_7130755376027595305_n_zps21548291.jpg Today I stopped in at the powder coaters to pick up a couple other things I had there and to check on the wagon. It had just came out of the baking oven, so I snapped a pic of it. I am happy with the outcome so far, the suspension parts were in the other oven still baking, so I wasn't able to get a picture of them. SS stripes are getting added to the tub to make it look like the car a little more. I am also going to do a sticker with my soon to be nephews name "Camden" in the Camaro font and put it on the wagon somewhere. The sides are getting stickers that say Ole Glory, which is the cars name and can be seen on the front valance in the picture. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/14883_10152570941506907_1831860874297885559_n_zpsbf5ba708.jpg I am hoping to have this one all wrapped up by the weeks end and then beginning on 2 other wagons I am building for people. I will post pics as they come of this wagons completion and the other 2 wagons.

DaddyBuiltRacing
Finishing this wagon up for a customer. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10463062_10152568854196907_1447585667120588075_n_zps2078b5c8.jpg Got it back from the powder coater today http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/DSCN2657_zps8a35bba9.jpg Painted the wheels and then sprinkled em with glitter before clear coating. The customer wanted it to feel princessy (not sure if that's a word). It's really hard to capture the glitter in a picture, hoping that once I have it all back together and do a little photo shoot it will be easier to see. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/DSCN2643_zps5f34a0ba.jpg
DaddyBuiltRacing
Well I got one finished and picked up another wagon build along the way. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10389428_10152587478411907_9142356782354022594_n_zps7be912ae.jpg The next wagon I am building is for a little boy who loves Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The wagon they chose from my collection is one that comes with bigger/rubber wheels from the factory. It was pretty rough looking, but sandblasting and powder coating will take care of that. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10349210_10152544435921907_736735144308794399_n_zpsc6bca832.jpg http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10320259_10152544435821907_7303783832114522521_n_zpsc5ff7fe5.jpg I bought a turtle shell along with weapons of his favorite turtle (Raphael) to use on the wagon. The shell will be mounted on the rear of the wagon, and the front of the wagon will receive the red mask. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10524577_10152591702611907_461373914962996733_n_zpsf84ddeb5.jpg I am hoping to have this one back from powder coating by the end of the week and wrapped up by the weekend. DaddyBuiltRacing
Thanks! I never thought this would be something I would be spending my free time doing, but here I am haha. The biggest issue I have with doing these is $$$, I have ideas for days, but the limiting factor in this, like most other things in life is money. On the pink wagon I made a little more money because I traded my powder coater a set of wagon wheels for some money off my bill. On the TMNT wagon, I might make $10-$15 profit. I give people a price and they think I am either making a fortune or over priced, but the sad reality is neither are true.
DaddyBuiltRacing
I finally got the Camaro inspired wagon back from the powder coater today, as well as the TMNT wagon. I will start by posting pics of the Camaro one, since I am about 90% of the way finished with it. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/260ec9ea-7e7d-42ff-b33b-f8a62f87f33c_zps551a25f4.jpg http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/54f30ac1-42bb-4492-b9ef-58c6ced3c136_zpsc4ef7d49.jpg http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/447fdc19-0b42-4886-92fb-24f7aec8a229_zps6d6c0517.jpg I am pretty happy with how it turned out, given the amount of money I had to work with. gillbot
If you don't mind, how much do you usually pay for the originals? I see them go up for sale all the time here fairly cheap and could snag some for ya of you need more.
DaddyBuiltRacing
I try to keep it under $25, that way I don't have to jack the price up more than it already is in order to make $5-$10. The cheaper the better, condition doesn't really matter to me as I have a lot of spare parts laying around.
gillbot
I see radio flyers all the time for $20, sometimes "1960's" wagons that look old and original for the same. I usually offer $10 or so and had a few stick but I never followed through. If I see any more I'll let you know. I have no need now that my kids are bigger but these are neat to see completed. DaddyBuiltRacing
Thanks, just let me know if/when you find some. I scower the local selling walls and craigslist usually 2-3 times a week looking for cheap ones. I am hoping to finish up the Ninja turtle wagon this weekend. Got it most of the way back together, gotta sand down the axles a little bit to get the wheels to fit over the powder. I also gotta paint the wheels, just now sure what color I want to do them. http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10485899_10152624852536907_8158413297316947290_n_zpsc8486181.jpg Found an image online that I thought would be cool for the stickers, modified it a little to give it a personalized touch http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/10595728_10152562454496900_880163087_n_zps9cc22b34.jpg I should have it wrapped up by Sunday night hopefully

DaddyBuiltRacing
Well I got the TMNT wagon all back together today. The only thing I have left to do is put the eyeballs on for the mask and secure it (was only temped up for the picture). DaddyBuiltRacing
Well it has been a couple months since I last built a wagon and honestly I didn't expect to build anymore. I started selling my collection off little by little, I am glad I hung on to some of them as I now have 3 wagons to build all of a sudden. The first one I am building is another TMNT wagon. My dad called me up and told me that his autistic neighbor boy was in love with the turtles and that is all he talks about. So he told me to build him a Leonardo wagon and he'd pay for it. Having built one of these already I had a good idea on how to go about it. I am going to change up a couple things from the first one such as sticker design and seat fabric, so that it doesn't look identical to the last one I built. I had my dad come over and pick out the wagon he wanted to use for this one, we went with my model 99 which is a special edition wagon. This particular wagon model is the last Radio Flyers to be made in the US from everything I have read. I was a little sad to modify it, but at least it is going to someone that will appreciate it. Model 99 wagon that is being used for this build http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10632813_363558647135129_1144507794350128605_n_zps9ef44eb5.jpg Picked up the shell and weapon http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/1891029_363558663801794_4520997758144814654_n_zpsd96c2f24.jpg Got everything back from the powder coater today, they had this stuff done in 2 days. I began putting everything back together http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10389223_364142760410051_3380505524612522030_n_zps3167022d.jpg
DaddyBuiltRacing
The second wagon I have to build is for my 2 month old niece. I had originally bought this wagon with hopes of restoring it back to original. However, once my brother in law caught wind that I was trying to sell it, he jumped on the chance to buy it and have me build something cool. The wagon by it's self stands out as it's not one you see everyday. The fact that this one is going to be powder coated and hydro dipped, will really set it off. I am taking the wagon and all its components to the powder coater tomorrow, so they can get started on it. 1950's Radio Rancher http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/00b0b_ea6NBpEgeE7_600x450_zps49c39812.jpg Got it up on the work bench to be torn apart and to decide a color scheme http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/10712759_10152808241231907_6989848389153811167_n_zpsc315873c.jpg Got it all torn apart and ready for the powder coater. One strange thing with this wagon was instead of round nuts holding the bolts on, this had square nuts. It took a little more work to get this wagon torn apart, but it's apart http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/Wagon%20Builds/1958582_10152808241266907_5783949814445619937_n_zpsde7550cd.jpg
iwashmycar
that just means it is OLD. Antique even. Do you make certain they arent worth a load of cash before you tear into them??
DaddyBuiltRacing
Yup, there isn't much value in these things honestly. I have a super rare wagon (1970's AMF California Van), tried selling it for $200 and haven't had a single offer on it. I follow a bunch of the vintage wagon pages on facebook and not much interest from people on buying old wagons for anything over $50.
