RC K9
lettuces/leafy greens coming along. Swiss chard, lolla rossa, galactic, cimarron romaine, raddichio... I plugged the seedlings in 9/5 and here is where they are as of yesterday. http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG20221_zpssfdrwdyv.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG20231_zpsb4cg9yr7.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG20241_zpsv6tzoxq9.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG20251_zpszxfwsijr.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG20261_zpskwdygf9v.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG20281_zps8lwpluep.jpg
RC K9
Pics from last evening. I can't believe the rate of growth. This is 13 days after plugging the seedlings in. I am guessing another 7-10 days and they will be big enough to harvest. If I wanted baby greens, the chard is already there and the lettuces aren't far behind. http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2065_zpss853dzsk.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2067_zpsrk22qxbo.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2068_zpsvakt9dch.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2068_zpsvakt9dch.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2070_zpsvp3t8jr7.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2071_zpsjjjnmcfj.jpg
KillJoy
VERY nice!!!! How large is the growing area? KillJoy
RC K9
Grow room is about 90sqft, so not big at all. That's why I am growing leafy greens in a vertical tower. I have 90 spaces in that tower and it takes maybe 3sqft of space.
Tindall2006
Maybe I missed it.. but where did you buy the tower/find plans? Thinking about a project for my apartment patio! Texas should provide year round growing.
RC K9
I bought some 5gal buckets and lids, food grade caulk, pump, piping, spray jets, and about 90 1" 45deg elbows and ent to work. I didn't have any plans per say, just looked at the different ways people were making vertical gardens and made my own. Texas actually isn't that great for large scale outdoor food production since it gets so hot. A lot if plants burn. I am going to try some cold weather crops eventually though. RC K9
I'll post some links though to some vids that helped me grasp the concept of what I was building. My design is far from ideal, but it's working for now. Stacked 5gal buckets can leak at the seems. Ideally I'd like to get some of the blue food grade plastic 30gal barrels to use. RC K9
We have fall and spring though where it isn't bad? Just have to start two growing seasons... Right? A greenhouse may work through most of spring and fall, some of winter. Middle of summer is doubtful. I may try a greenhouse soon. I did this indoor because I want consistent fresh produce regardless of the time of year.
RC K9
Top tier is getting a bit out of control. I need to harvest some in the next few days due to overcrowding. RC K9
Forgot to post pics. Harvested some stuff last weekend about a week earlier than I would have liked, but due to over crowding, I had to get it out. Tasted great. http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2168_zpsjxdaiajl.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2170_zpsrcpfcyqv.jpg And here are some pics from the other evening. Including a rail/drip feed system I built that I am playing around with. I have some different varieties of hot peppers, different basil, a couple different kale varieties, some lettuce, arugula, pak choi, dill, etc. http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2187_zpsh1cpghrg.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2188_zpslag8nkge.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2189_zpsgeqnllnj.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2190_zpsxmqdqhaa.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2191_zpszjbc5ihm.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2192_zpsqqizmrkf.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2193_zpszqubcify.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2194_zpsoc4ag6dr.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2196_zpsgf6xlvgf.jpg
Radio Flyer1647545514
How is the reflective material treating you versus doing just white walls? Did you look into that at all? Looks like your flowers are in a tight space touching it.
RC K9
I didn't do a grow comparison between white walls and mylar, I just put 2 coats of white on the walls, ceiling, and floor, then put mylar on the walls and ceiling. It is incredible bright in there with the LED grow lights on even with glasses. Nothing is touching the walls. My just be an optical illusion. Jewtoys
Cool stuff, going to keep an eye out on this thread. Debating if I want to install a greenhouse, get jelly every morning when I see my neighbors.
RC K9
We are talking about an hour from harvest to my table. It's a lot of work getting started and ironing out the kinks, but I feel it is worth it to know I am eating healthy varieties, getting max nutritional benefit due to not having to go through distribution, and not herbicides, pesticides, etc.
RC K9
Here is the other system I have as of yesterday. http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2232_zpsyx960m6k.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2233_zpsnclql2em.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2235_zps0rfek0l4.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2236_zpsr4v01fhq.jpg I trimmed some of the lower stems/leaves of the basil to try to promote some vertical growth. Used it in the chicken parm my wife made last night. Also trimmed some of the bigger kale leaves for the first time to use in a salad. I will say this, that kale was very good. Thick, crisp, had a flavor similar to fresh pea pods, (which we love). The basil was incredibly aromatic and flavorful as well.

RC K9
The tower was getting ridiculously crowded. I harvested some, enough to stuff 2 1gal storage bags and an additional huge head of 4 seasons lettuce and a head of pak choi. Needless to say, we ate a lot of salad yesterday. http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2277_zpsrdzdbn7o.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2278_zpsdlgbkkz3.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2280_zpslhvsa0xw.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2284_zpsxkv2i2bk.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2285_zps6ypjllbc.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2286_zpsauhc77j0.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2289_zpsgz8mtahu.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2290_zpsi5w7hrbt.jpg
RC K9
Basil got out of hand and started to flower. I had to move it. It start to lose its natural sweetness once it goes to flower and the stalk starts to get woody and hard. I gave 3 one gallon bags away to neighbors and gave my parents a whole plant, and said, "use what you can and just toss the rest or whatever you want to do with it." We have been getting fresh salads pretty much every day now, and not little salads...big ones. Got my first cucumber on Saturday as well. http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2330_zpsmqpjxgzo.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2341_zpscandtdnl.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2343_zpsjuwvfmd8.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2344_zps8cln8olu.jpg http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/RyanCorlew/Indoor%20Gardening/IMAG2345_zpsko3mh9m4.jpg
