cruizin01
A mk5 GTI should be able to be had to around that money. Probably a bit higher mileage but should be a way better car than a neon or cobalt, etc. Just an idea.
Skinner
I don't see what the issue with calibers are. I've driven the srt4 one here at work a couple times and it's pretty decent. A tad bumpy sometimes. And my legs are an awkward length, I need the seat to be farther forward to push the clutch all the way and wish It had an electric seat so I can move it back just a hair. I want to get away from the big cars. They ride nice, but are horrible on fuel. I've found a couple srt4 neon with less than 60k for close to 9 grand. Which we could do that price, but only if the mileage is that low. You are forgetting the srt4 will require premium fuel and will get about the same mpg (within a mile or 2) as a crown vic that only needs 87 octane. If things are still tight for you guys a turbo car is the last thing you want. Get something NA that is know to run forever.
airwg2189
Definitely get an SRT-4.
The_buster
The srt 4 is rated in the low to mid 20mpg. And as for the premium fuel, my maxima took that and someone on here told me it's really not that much more. Money isn't tight anymore, not like before anyway. Littleguy
+1 for the SRT-4, for your budget you should be able to find something reliable, unlike people on here think. Look for something that has had a lot of recent rebuild work done.

greg1647545532
Fuck the SRT, stretch your credit and get a B5 S4, life's too short not to. It'll pay for itself after a few years because it's German, you need something that's built well for your family, and it's only got a 2.7L so it's economical. The_buster
http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/5234794791.html Ok not sure why the link doesn't work on my phone. But it's a 2008 srt4 caliber with 4500 miles. But has been wrecked and everything replaced. They're asking 8500. It's in grove city and it's a black one if anyone wants to look it up. The_buster
Also someone mentioned buying new. I just toyed around with the build a car thing on the dodge website. I built a dart, manual because the auto sucks. It came to 20,495. I can lease for 302/month or buy for 256. Other than the obvious lower payment, what's the benefits of either? For the lease I chose 48 months and 15k miles per year.
Aaron
Salvage title caliber with original tires, what could go wrong.
The_buster
" Salvage title, I bought it wrecked and had it completely fixed" But if it checks out good, would it be ok? Seems like a good deal. But also seems too good to be true.
Green Bastard
I wouldn't lease, you could end up owing money at the end of the lease if you go over the miles. With buying you take the big depreciation hit, but you will have the warranty. On second thought, don't buy anything dodge in your price range or, as stated before, anything with a turbo in your price range. Buy something reliable (or as I said, keep what you have) and if you wish to have a toy then buy something cheap that you can build to your liking. I know I will probably get some hate for this, but a dsm would probably be a good toy for you. They are cheap and they can be quick.

spankis
But if it checks out good, would it be ok? Seems like a good deal. But also seems too good to be true. Can you elaborate on "checking it out good" in terms of a salvage title anything? Would you honestly be able to buy this salvage title turbo dodge thing and tote your family around in it with a good conscience?

ForeverMaker
Why are we discussing a car that is on craigslist now for a purchase that is happening tax time next year? Car won't be around then. Move on.
87GT
Don't buy a used turbo car. Buy that new. If you want something to keep your family safe buy a honda. If you only have one car your precious cargo should be at the top of your priorities list. Once you can afford two cars you can buy a fun srt-4 or whatever. Here look at this one. It is from a dealer. You could find something cheaper if you want to find a private seller. http://www.germainhondaofdublin.com/used/Honda/2011-Honda-Civic-Columbus-964c856a0a0e0a175a16d696170feb58.htm Here is an older and cheaper Si model. You could have fun with this. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/5263572333.html
