Owners seem to love these things.

 

My neighboor has a Hellcat, and a 392...

 

 

They sound great with an exhaust!

Yeah, I think they are almost a nice kept secret in the pony car world. People discount them but they really aren't that big of a slouch with the 392.

They sound great with the stock exhaust too. Wait until you hear the Durango SRT. I drove one down to Columbus and back last month and loved it. The Hellcat and SRT Charger/Challenger have an active exhaust valve that opens at high throttle applications. The stock car is surprisingly loud.

Mine could use a bit more growl at WOT but it really isn't bad at all.

The stock exhaust sound is probably the one thing I dislike on my 14 Charger R/T. I've spent a lot of time online trying to find a good replacement and just haven't found something that I love yet.

I would have figured the automatic transmission would be the one thing people dislike on modern v8 musclecars.....who knew.

Recommend doing an e-cut out and a tune. Makes a HUGE difference, you can be loud and mean when you want to and quiet/respectful when you need to. The spin down on those cars which is computer controlled inorder to burn off excess fuel sounds REALLY weird without a tune FYI

New EPS – a First for Hellcat^

 

The 2018 Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody features a new standard electric power steering (EPS) system – a first for Hellcat. The system uses SRT Drive Modes with selectable settings for Street (Auto), Sport and Track.

Not only does the EPS system improve handling performance, owners will also notice better steering feel and ease of turning efforts at parking lot speeds.

With EPS and SRT Drive Modes, drivers can tailor their experience by controlling horsepower, transmission shift speeds, steering, paddle shifters (automatic transmission only), traction and suspension. There is also a Custom setting lets the driver use individual preferences.

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody is powered by the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 with 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. torque and can be paired to either the Tremec six-speed manual or TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

The proven Hellcat HEMI engine features additional cooling measures including a low-temperature circuit with two air/coolant heat exchangers integrated into the supercharger housing. I'm really curious to see what a clean, lower mileage Hellcat is valued at in 20-25 years.

 

 

 

I'm curious what the general classic car market will be? I feel like we are the last car enthusiast generation. Might be a car dump in 20-25 years when the boomers start dying off en masse??

I get where you are coming from, and mostly agree that the future for collector cars is unknown, but for a lot of different reasons. I don't think we are the last car enthusiast generation, I think there are always going to be people who like cars and driving - it just may not be the same.

 

What worries me is will there be affordable gasoline. There is a lot of focus right now on alt fuels, as well as alt drive technologies. Lack of demand for gasoline may reduce it to cheap short term but as the infrastructure switches over then gas will become a boutique item and expensive. This means it could be very expensive 30-40 years from now. No fuel means either conversions or no classic cars.

 

One of the other reasons older cars had such staying power is that there were a lot of 1-3 year only designs up until the 1980's, so there is a lot of variety for a short period of time and all are highly stylized. Also some of those cars, like muscle cars, were considered good because the rest of the new car world in the late 1970's and early 1980's was just so different and terrible at the time. Pop culture seized this and put lots of old cars in movies and made it cool. I don't know that I am seeing a lot of miatas in movies so I don't think pop culture is driving the market anymore - at least not with aging cars, which is ok because it means the special stuff gets saved and the real garbage isn't. It's ok if a civic 4-door gets crushed or parted, as long as they save the integra GSR. Think about the old cars that got saved just because they are old (cought...ford fairmount...cough) and how a lot less of that will happen.

There is an on-board data logger on anything that says srt. I hit 98mph and my 0-60 was slow at 3.xx. during a new car prep

 

Are you saying a dealership/manufacturer can go through your data logs if you bring the car in under warranty for a broken component and deny your claim based on your driving history according to your data logs?

I think he's referring to the gauge cluster. It will keep a tally of your top speed, 0-60 times, and 1/4 mile. Its not tracked, downloaded, or sent to the cloud AFAIK. But it could piss off a customer to find someone abused their car, if you don't reset the cluster.

 

There is also a reaction timer. A drag tree shows up on the cluster.
