Forrest Gump 9
Browsing some late nights CL, found this 1980 500SEL AMG and now its mine. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/david_pham2/IMG_1379_zpsqibeybhk.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/david_pham2/IMG_1380_zpsahcpossx.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/david_pham2/IMG_1381_zpsodt5wohv.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/david_pham2/IMG_1373_zpsf0nkw0ce.png http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/david_pham2/IMG_1374_zpsregyhflv.png Like I said earlier it's a 1980 500SEL AMG. One owner, living it's whole life in NC.its essentially a living room on wheels. For such a big and heavy car I had no problem hustling it down I77 doing 80mph. 420 miles to 20 gallons to boot. No radio, no AC for six hours by yourself really make you ponder life. It'll need some serious work to make it perfect but as it sit it'll be a cool DD. xlr8tn
looks like those front seats need a shave. Riding those in NC during the summer with no AC??? I can't imagine the levels of ball sweat and ass juices that have soaked into those. haha

The first thing I did was fabrezed the crap out of the interior and six hours of 80mph with the windows down helped.

zeitgeist57
That looks Euro (slim bumpers, cloth interior, steering wheel) I'm a big W126 fan so of COURSE I approve of your new car. Congrats!!!
Geeto67
Is that carpet on the front seats?! jesus Sheepskin seat covers. Don't knock them till you tried them, super soft, super comfy, and the cure for sticky hot leather or vinyl seats in the summer since the 1970's. I still have a set on my GTO because black vinyl sucks in the summer. It used to be really expensive to get slip on fitted sheep covers like that in the 80's/90's. If they have been on the car since ten the seats underneath may be mint. Most put them on however when the seat splits so....

Remember that they trap dirt and sweat...you'll want to get those professionally cleaned. They've seen a lot of hooker saliva, ass juice, and nut drippings in their time. Fiji ST
Awesome score. I'm surprised about the A/C though. Dead or just non-existent?
Geeto67
so IIRC AMG back then ran a sort of a la carte menu with these cars, right? I see it has the bumpers and wheels but not the spoiler, skirts or console mounted television. Does it have the 6.0L engine and the Gleason Torson differential? They also offered different tunes for the stock v8 and the AMG overbored 6.0L, so which does it have?

The popular engine upgrade in the early eighties was the 5.4l with cam. Not sure what I have, but I know for sure it has a different rear end than the MB. Once the weather clear up I'll start cleaning it up and try to figure out what I have.
