A college coach has never came back from paid administrative leave.

Unfortunately I think he will be gone within 48 hours.

You are letting your emotion rule over the logic of the situation

If you are to believe Courtney Smith and the "accusations" then here is a list of people who knew and did nothing, or not enough I guess.

Gainesville PD

Gainesville DA

U of Florida

Earle Bruce

Urban Meyer

Shelly Meyer

Powell PD

Delaware DA

Asst Coach wives

Her parents

His parents

OSU

Her attorneys

his attorneys

Divorce Judge

Now that is a lot of "collusion", swamp level haha.

I am not trying to marginalize Courtney and what she apparently is having to go through, however let the facts evolve and come out. Stop with the pitch fork emotions and lets break this down. Some of it looks damning, but much or it seems counter to the law/facts/OSU's knowledge.

I would hope Urban is not dumb enough to try and Jerry Sandusky level bury something, if he did he deserves to go down with the ship.

Man, I LOVE the Buckeyes, and I hate that Urb is going down for this. That being said, he IS going to go down for this. Unless, as I said, Shelley falls on her sword...and even then it's iffy. But look, let's be clear, Urb ANd Shelley are considered "mandatory reporters" as a result of Urban being a state employee and being bound by title IX provisions. If someone goes to them and reports abuse, they are bound by law to report it to their superiors. If Urban KNEW (and if you think Shelley knew and didn't tell him, then you have an interesting take on the marriage relationship) and didn't report it to his superiors...he's gonna fall. The only other way I can see that he get's out of this is that the university comes out and says "Urb told us about it, we investigated, found no evidence of wrongdoing, and told him to let it drop", but there's a pretty fat chance of that happening.

This sickens me. I get the Title IX and all, but in the interview she talks about the Shelly texts then goes on to say Urban asked her how she was doing and she just says "Fine". Dont say you are fine if you are not fine. I know nothing is cut and dry, but man.

IMO abuse between a coach and a student is different than a coach and his wife. Classic reason why one should keep family and work lives completely separate. I don't want to know about the relationship between my people and their spouses as that's their business not mine and vise-versa.

Clauses like that in Meyers contract are bullshit as he's there to coach not be a cop. If the wife is being abused go to the authorities not your husbands boss or peer.

I agree. But if I'm a manager (or some position of authority) and learn of some pretty solid evidence that one of the guys I hired is continuously beating the shit out of his wife, I'll find a reason to fire him.

IMO solid evidence is he's arrested or convicted, etc. Otherwise, it's like you being fired for DUI without ever being Arrested or Convicted of DUI but instead were seen drinking at a bar with friends after work and someone just said you drove impaired. Work and personal life need kept apart.

This x100. The idiots out there that call for everyone's jobs/heads over allegations kill me. I assume that Urban knew something, but without actual proof it's just an opinion. Was Smith ever charged and convicted? It seems like his ex was out to get Zach and when she pulled her head out of her ass and realized that she just cut off her "income", she went public. Gee...I wonder why.

I will say that I have no tolerance for domestic violence and if Zach is a wife beater then he needed to be dealt with long ago.

I full well understand how shit can go if a woman says that you are something that you are not. I'm going through a divorce and my ex had some opinions on some things that just weren't true. Guess who had to prove their innocence? It was guilty until proven innocent. Fuck Ohio. Completely different situation and circumstances though. Just funny how its whatever the woman says must be true shit.

Here's my 2c

Did Urban know about this? Looks like it. Is playing the innocent card the only way he will keep his job? Yes. Is there any hard evidence that he did know about it? No. Should he be fired based on hearsay? Well that seems to be what it may come down to.

I think Ohio State is doing the right thing by putting Meyer on leave while they sort through the details and build their case one way or the other. It gets the media and society off their back temporarily and gives them a chance to take all of this in.

If Meyer plays the "I had no idea" card and no evidence is found, the University can still fire him but they will owe him $40 million because it will be a no cause firing and they will be breaking contract. Whether we believe Meyer knew about it or not, I don't think we can fire him unless we have hard evidence showing he knew. If we start firing people based on he said she said, we are going to go down a slippery slope.

A few interesting things: Hypothetically speaking, if Meyer DID know about it, but she called the police and chose not to press charges, what exactly is Meyer supposed to do? If she chose to not press charges because she wanted to keep the income, would that have turned Meyer into the bad guy if he did fire him back then? I'm trying to understand Courtney's position here. It seems like she didn't want anything done all these years and now all of the sudden? After the '09 incident which was described to be really bad, she stayed with him and had another kid with the guy. I'm not blaming the victim but it all seems odd to me.

More hearsay, but I was out to lunch with someone today that "knows her" and as you'd guess she is supposedly totally batshit crazy. I am betting its money. Either dude getting canned cut off her money or the interview paid somehow.

Even in the interview when she was admitting she was yelling back at the douche for messing up her car...I can just imagine the things that were said. While he is scum for the abuse, it doesnt sound like she was exactly cowering in a corner. I completely speculate she really likely fueled the anger with words.

So this is all on the same level as the current allegations. Off bucknuts but it seems to have some potential sense. .

"Urban is looking at a 3-4 game suspension, mostly because the #MeToo movement and the appearance the university must give.

*Many members of the University have known about both her and him for quite some time.

*They never acted on information because there was never any proof of guilt one way or the other.

*Photos are from 2010 and there is no proof the harm was caused by him.

*He and she are both drunks and they are both crazy. She is REALLY crazy.

*She called 911 (66) times in 90 days.

*She got pulled over 3 times for DUI. On each time they let her off and escorted her home.

*Each time she began crying and stated Zach was chasing her and she was afraid. Each time Zach was at practice.

*911 actually stopped sending squads because they stopped finding her credible. They came numerous times with 911 verifying Zach was engaged in Ohio State activities.

*In Zach's and her court hearing the Powell police are testifying on his behalf.

*She has come to OSU practices numerous times drunk, chasing after Zach, threatened to blow people up and other various threats.

*She never worked and when divorced lived off of Zach's child support.

*When Zach was fired she realized she would lose income and freaked out. She reached out to anyone. She was asking 6-figures for her story.

Anything can still happen, but they decided to suspend Urban with pay to separate the media frenzy from the practices. Apparently there is no proof of anything. Just two crazy people who should have never been together.”

I dont think its cut and dry, frankly she has to have some skeletons in that closet for a divorce to drag on that long with the accusations being spat. It is not me marginalizing her and what may have happened, however it is just a sigh of the current culture. Urban is no saint I am certain but he didnt beat this girl, and I highly doubt he would let this clown sink his ship IMO.

Huh...good for Brian Hartline. I always liked him and thought he was underrated.

This.

If Urban didn't know he should keep his job and move on. If Urban did know and did report it to his superiors and authorities he should keep his job and move forward. If Urban did know and did nothing, as much as it pains me to say it, he should go.

It's so damn hard. I mean, imagine if your best friend came to you in confidence and asked you to do nothing. I'm in NO way excusing the actions or the covers or anything, but just playing devils advocate. I'm glad I'm not in the public eye.

...he's the second best coach in college football and I hate seeing this kind of shit happen to OSU

Debatable.

If Urban did know....I think thats the issue everyone is contemplating, whats the definition of 'know'? So far Smith has never been arrested and its only been here say, complaints and restraining orders from the ex. So knowing someone is potentially an idiot and/or wife is bat shit crazy pissed, does that construe being fired? I would like to think that OSU/AthDept would catch it first and fire him, but since there is no arrests they prolly don't know anything either.

Looks like more info is starting to come out. Looks like she might have be a crazy and called the police over 100 times to the point the police stopped responding because it was always a hoax. She showed up drunk to practice and chased Zach around numerous times and I guess cheated on him, too? Again, these are rumors but a lot of times rumors have SOME truth to them. That's what scares me about the #MeToo movement. As a society we're so quick to want to lynch whoever the finger is being pointed at that we don't wait for facts to come out. Who knows, maybe Zach was a crazy too and did beat the shit out of her. Sounds to me like they are both crazy and had no business being together and now somehow it's Urban's fault he didn't do more to break up an adult marriage? Idk man, nowhere else but in sports. A CEO wouldn't lose his job if he knew one of his employees was having family issues but didn't report it to the police. I'm sure their marriage would have definitely worked itself out and the beatings (if there were any) would have stopped if Urban fired him and cut off that $350k money supply :dumb:

I'm not surprised by the "new" evidence showing her greed and lunacy. Kind of knew about it before, but I wonder if ES(EC)PN will put it out there. Like I said before, it isnt what the woman can prove it's what they allege. Kind of backwards. Been through it and its total BS to have to deal with.

I told my friends that it is Gene's turn to go under it. Tressel took one for the team before. Smith will be under fire before Urban.

It really looks like this is how it might play out. Urban coaches for another year or two, takes over the AD spot, Day or Grinch move up to HC.

given the unstablity of the ex-wife, the numerous false statements from her to police, showing up to practice to threaten smith.......why not bring back Smith and suspend him for 6 games and suspend Urban for two games for making a false statement to the media. Seems to me that all parties at OSU knew she was flat out bat shit crazy and just went with it.
