Otis Nice Posted May 16, 2021 Report Share Posted May 16, 2021 Meanwhile, I JUST spoke to a good friend and fellow Republican who didn’t get the vaccine, and spent 10 days in the hospital early in 2021 truly feeling like he was going to die. The man next to him was on a tracheotomy tube to drain his lungs and get oxygen, and was unconscious. He said he felt like he couldn’t breathe, spent most of the day exhausted, trying to keep calm and not freak out, yet work slowly on getting air in and out of his lungs. Needless to say, this dad is happy to be back in the world with a newfound appreciation for what he and many others went through. That’s ALSO what I will remember hearing. Martelle had it and thought it was just a sinus infection. His wife had it and had absolutely no symptoms. I do also know someone else that died from it but he also wasn't in perfect health. I've heard lots of things from lots of sources. Not saying you're wrong. Not saying I disagree with anything said. Just saying we're ALL hearing MANY things. I stopped wearing a mask a few months ago unless I was in a doc office. If someone asked me to put one on I would do it if I had it with me. No issue. But I went pretty much everywhere I wanted to without one and only had 2 diff employees ask me to put one on in 2 diff stores. Masks in the south were an uphill battle to begin with. I do a lot of work in those settings and I understand. Outside of that I don't agree and do not comply and visited places I knew didn't care. Our governor decided to tell the schools to create a form to fill out and allow kids to opt out of masked, my wife had that turned in the same day. I have no problems wearing a mask in order to do things that are 'normal,' and I never understood the loud opposition. It doesn't bother me one bit, and my kids don't care either, and that included a trip to Disney World in August where we had to wear them all day long. IMO, I would have rather seen a more phased approach to returning everything to 'normal.' I think the bandaid has been ripped off too fast when my state (MI) was just in the midst of a crisis only ~2 weeks ago and we don't understand enough about what's going on in India (where lots of people who previously had COVID and recovered are getting sick again, but with worse symptoms). Also, it still seems like it's unknown whether a vaccinated person can pass the virus to someone else, and that does concern me with my kids. Their odds are better than mine with this virus, but a friend of theirs just had MIS-C following asymptomatic COVID and almost died several times over the course of a week. Because of these unknowns I'm going to continue to wear a mask until we know more and I see what happens to numbers in the US. There are people at my work that won't work in close spaces with others because they are high risk, yet they haven't lost any weight nor done shit to improve their lifestyle and become less "high risk". I just find it hilarious people are all on board with this pay for vaccine scheme but there are literally bigger fat fish to fry. Pay for smoking cessation, losing weight, cholesterol, the list goes on and on for things that could make a much bigger impact but they can’t skim money off the top that way.
