PrincessPratt
I need to get a new computer in the next two weeks. I am completely clueless when in comes to tech stuff like this. I know there are several knowledgeable people on this forum when it comes to computer tech stuff. Can I please have some pros/cons/personal experiences as to what your preference is. I was originaly going to purchase another PC but one of my patient's last week had her MAC lap top with her and she let me play around with it a bit. She used to have only PC's but now she is exclusively mac b/c of their "performace" as she puts it. Help please! And FYI....I usually only use my computer for internet surfing, writing papers, etc. Although I am wanting to get into some photography in the next year and will need some good compatible programming for that. I have a WII and PS3 so I don't game on my computer. I hope that helps.

buildit
Mac- expensive, relyable, applications take time to get used to, does not play well with all windows applications online.PC- less expensive, not as relyable, almost every application in the world is made for them and they're great for dummies.I have a mac laptop and PC desk top so one of each. Tend to switch back and forth for diffrent uses.

V4junkie
If you refer to yourself as "clueless at tech stuff" then Apple wants your business! But really it'll just be lower maintenance, more reliable, faster, and will suit your needs for quick surfing and graphic design applications. kreator
If you don't know why you would need a Mac over a PC, then you just answered your own question. Don't spend the extra cash on a MAC. A new laptop will do just fine.
wrillo
Disagree... If you are tech dumb, get a PC. You don't want to have to figure out which programs will or won't work with your MAC, and how to get them to work. More people know how to use PCs, which will get you more help when you're in a jam. With a MAC, you'll have to pay someone to do it/fix it, or you'll have to figure it out yourself.Get a PC, load it with Avast anti-virus software (free), and don't look MAC. err, I mean back

Don't spend the extra cash on a MAC. A new laptop will do just fine. This makes no sense to me. If you don't know much about computers, then the PC is likely going to be a headache. More virus protection, crashes/reboots, more complex, and so on. You know if something goes wrong with it she's calling you!

You've worked on my lap top enough to know how darn slow it is no matter what is done to it! Grrrr! And I'm trying to make an educated decision this time. I wanted some feedback by people who have personally used both products.

wrillo
Get a mac and don't look back - if you get a good mac you can also run windows on a mac!and why would you want to run an "inferior" operating system on your MAC?^^ that right there is your answer. MAC is just a synonym for "cool". They have to run windows on their MAC to get any work done.
dmagicglock
i've had my Mac for almost a year, it has never crashed once... I've never had to reinstall the OS, I've never had a "virus" or had to renew "virus software". It was a little more than a PC, but I will never buy another new PC again. I have a toshiba that I bought just a little before my Mac, and even with disabling a lot of the startup menus, it still doesn't come as close to being as fast or reliable as my mac. I can literally turn my computer on and be surfing the web in 10 seconds from the time I hit the power button. Thats like a 10 minute process on the PC

If you go to the mac store and they have those cool little handhelds where they can scan your item while you are still shopping, those cool little gadgets as well as all of the equipment behind the counter run on Windows. dmagicglock
I don't know if there's a mac store in the easton mall, but there was one in the kenwood mall in cincy and they're "playground" stores where you can go in and use the computers, get 1 on 1 instruction, etc... Go in sometime if you have one up there and you can see if you like it. Theyre not that different to use and i promise you once you buy one, you'll be like wtf, why didn't I do this 10 years ago.
