smashweights
Why do ppl give a shit if casinos are built in ohio? and what does it matter if they're "out of state" built or staffed? Either way it's tax revenue for ohio regardless. I just cant figure out why this is a big issue for anyone and why it failed last time. jagr
Well i can tell you the group pushing it THIS time is the same group that OPPOSED it LAST time. They opposed it last time to the tune of a 39 million $$$ anti ohio casino campaign. So the question is what changed???
gixxie750
they act like all the jobs at a casino are skilled??? How many waitreses, trash people, cleaning crews, door whores, parking people and security will they ship in? No matter what Ohio will get "some" money so do it! I am going to go vote just for this issue.

Artmageddon
What amazes me is that the campaigns for this seldom mention what the vote is actually for, and that is something about jobs rather than casinos. People are going to gamble no matter what if they want to. Out of state, illegally, whatever. Let em do it here. This particular vote for it may not be the correct one, there are some problems with it, but eventually we need to let it happen.I don't understand why they make about the jobs. So we get some people migrating to Ohio. Better than the usual trend of leaving. Most of the low wage jobs here are being working by foreign immigrants anyway, so it doesn't change anything. Anyone living and working here still pays Ohio taxes and spends money at Ohio businesses.
John
what i want to know. the commercial says that 39,000 jobs will be created. X construction and Y in the casino. then the other commerical says that they are all going to be out of state workers...now i can see that for the construction, but you mean to tell me they are shipping in blackjack dealers from out of state? Tpoppa
One of the biggest opponents of Casinos in OH is the Catholic church. Not because they are morally opposed to gambing, but because they see it putting a big dent in Bingo revenue. Seriously.Ahh yes, Bingo at church just like Jesus intended Edited September 27, 2009 by Tpoppa

I am voting no on this issue.Who cares if they hire 100% of the employees from out of state... Ohio would get tax dollars from the employees for income AND for the casinos profits... additionally as you said, people coming in from out of state that are going to work full time are going to buy houses...Let's come back to the main scenariosWorst Cases ScenariosVote Yes: MAYBE Ohio jobs, tax dollars from casino income, evil LEGALIZED gambling will corrupt our familiesVote No: NO jobs, NO tax dollars, evil LEGALIZED gambling prevented Edited September 27, 2009 by Likwid

jporter12
I agree with you but I am just against gambling in general. I have seen several friends and family lose money from it.I hate to be Mr. Downer here, but they would find a way to lose it, or just foolishly spend it (I know firsthand how that works! I've done it!) Isn't the lottery also gambling? You pay money in hopes of winning more in return? Legalized gambling will happen. It may not be this time around, or the next, but it WILL be here. I don't really care for it. I also don't really care if someone else does go and gamble away everything. What I do care about is that it goes against my beliefs, and it would be wrong of me to vote for it, and to enable someone by voting for it. jporter12
Oh yeah, it would also promote hookers and blow, which are both against my moral standars as well (sorry that dude!)

Odds are you will lose.
