What happens if the casinos fail? Does the government step in and bail them out on our $$$ so they don't look like losers for backing them in the first place?

I find it very telling that the FOP backs the casinos since that is job security for them. Casinos would need to hire off duty police to patrol and guard the casinos from trouble, no?

No the casinos(if passed) will not hire off duty cops for the entire security,they will have there own or hire a security company to do that for them,reason being is would not be cost effective for them.

I think they should come up with a amendment that would any casino to open if they pay huge fees. Either way no state will be able to knock vegas of the top of the mountain.

Could this also have a negative side to? It could take thousands of peoples hard earned money because they throw it away at the casino. Also, could contribute to many people in Ohio going bankrupt. Sure it might create jobs, but I'm sure it will destroy lots of lives too. Just an opinion.

First, we would need to be allowed to smoke in said casinos. I am known to sit as long as 20 hrs at one table and I needs my smokes to go with the drinks.

Based on that, we should get rid of guns. Guns dont kill people, people kill people. If you have a gambling problem, stay out of the casino. If you can't swim, you stay out of the water right? Or you learn to swim within your limits.

No. I'm not opposed to casinos or legalized gambling, I just think the amendment, as written, is a narrowly focused stemwinder. IMO it's the wrong way to go about it...another mediocre proposal thrust at the voter with the hope that fear will prevail over common sense.

For the regional monopoly they do get, the tax rate should be higher than 33%... just saying.

I don't think the debate is "something better than nothing"

The debate is whether a 'flawed' policy should be implemented in the first place.

It's not fair to the casino owners to decide 3 years down the road to increase their tax rate because someone over/underestimated some figures.

I'd rather start high and move to low, than try to work the other way. I bet even at a 50% tax rate it'd still be profitable to own/operate a casino.

50/50 still wouldn't be a bad split for an owner.

Make it a bidding process. Start at 50%, and if no one agrees to build one, lower it to 45%, and two guys might jump at the opportunity. Then, they're set at 45% rate. Then the rest of the casino owners can get no better rate than 45%. Unless it's put to a vote again.

Someone will cave and bite at a higher rate because the 'first mover' opportunity is a premium.

I am all for casinos in Ohio but I voted no and would vote no again if the same ballot came up. I would vote yes in a heartbeat if they allowed everyone the opportunity to obtain a license to operate a gambling establishment. The limited monopoly that was given to a chosen few should not be for the government to decide and the voters who allowed this to happen should be ashamed of themselves. The democrats for awarding a monopoly to big business and the republicans for limiting opportunity to a chosen few.
