I admit I don't know the mechanics behind them, but it would seem that you're replacing 2 bearings with... well, a lot more than 2. the loss in un-sprung weight from removing the hub's center is a good thing, but the braking system, and all those 'radial' bearings have to add quite a bit back, no?
