granda080
I have to go to Grand Rapids, MI the last week of July. I was planning on riding up and then riding around the Upper Peninsula. The route I was looking at doing is http://mapq.st/oX33Ox Has anyone ridden around the Upper Peninsula? I've never been there. Thoughts? You don't get into the UP until after you cross the Mackinaw Bridge. I have ridden around the the eastern end of the UP both on bikes and sleds and it is absolutely beautiful. Based on a conversation I had with Pfloydgad this weekend the Western Lower is nice but not much to see on the Eastern Lower.
bigd
You're in for some gorgeous scenery. But, btw...that's not the Upper Peninsula. That's the lower.
granda080
LOL...sorry. As I said I've never been there. Thank you for the correction. Are there any specific places that I need to stop and see?
cmh_sprint
Sleeping Bear Dunes near Traverse City, Mackinaw City ( the old fort, retired Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw). Other than that there aren't many stops once you start heading down the East side to Bay City where you're planning on picking up 23 / 75.
ReconRat
That's an iron butt ride! I've mapped that one out, but other than the lighthouse/museum/fort and the ship traffic at Mackinaw... dunno. There is a decommissioned Coast Guard ice cutter/museum downtown. There is a souvenir/tourist trap area in Mackinaw also. Easy to hit if eating in that area. There's a bunch of interesting small towns on the West side of the peninsula. And that's lower peninsula. You mean upper lower peninsula. *confused* Upper Michigan is that part on the other side of the bridge. Someday I want to see that part also.Robert W. A lot of deer up there.edit again: you can zoom in and type attractions in the mapquest search, and it will point out stuff in the area. But I'd get on over on TripAdvisor, and search some of the areas for info. Edited July 6, 2011 by ReconRat

bigd
Just had dinner here last night http://www.legsinn.com/...up with the fam on vacation. Take M119 north all the way. It'll take you on some really scenic, curvy road up there, you won't regret it.
