I feel like we've had this thread before...

economic collapse seems like the most real threat to me. What will you do when you can't buy food, etc.?

The first answer is trade. But consumables are consumed, so of course, someone is going to have to start farming and hunting.

No, you can't eat bullets, but you can use them to defend what you have, and take what you don't. Clearly it's more noble to be in the former group, but when the options are starve or steal, i don't think many of us would hesitate to be in the latter group.

In a long term shtf scenario, my first order of business would be to pack up my supplies and get the hell out of columbus. I've got a couple hundred rounds of 9mm and ~150 shotgun shells so hopefully that will be enough. I've got enough food and water for a week or so. On the way out I might have to be a dick and jack someone's 4wd truck cuz a fwd car isn't gonna cut it. Hopefully I don't get shot in the process. If I manage to get out of here I'm heading to Kawi Kid's farm and hoping he doesn't put a bullet in my head as I'm coming up the road.

When we had that blackout we contacted all our friends and told them to buy as much beer as they could from wherever they could find that was open. We stocked a fridge and were siphoning gas out of cars to run generators. After a long night of drinking and playing survivalist the power came on in the morning.

Solar flares destroy the electrical grids........we may lose electricity for months or years. Tell me how another situation is gonna create a worse problem, unless a massive earthquake or a shitload of tornados destroy the state....which we will also lose most of our electricity? Give the average person 4 days without food, and they will do whatever it takes to survive.....so there are your zombies!!!!!! So there is your need for ammo, to kill or be killed for what ya got, and for those of us to survive outside of the cities for critter killing. Food, water, shelter and gas is all that is gonna matter when all hell breaks loose, and there is gonna be allot of people dying many ways. So many people are clueless about how to survive if need be, so many people are ignorant to think something bad won't happen. There will be pure chaos within days, and Im not talking about a few places without power Im talking about everywhere. Most people are totally fucked, plain and simple!!!!!

Summer would not be bad with out power. But the ohio winters would be rough without heat. Unless your house is set up with a wood burner or some way to heat it. I think the majority of people would not last the first winter. God I wish I had well water and a septic tank some days. I still need to get a lot of stuff to feel that I am more prepared for a serious situation. And if the shit never hits the fan thats fine at least I was ready if it did.

The 2003 blackout? I sat in my front yard on a lawn chair and crushed beers.

I lived right on the edge of Detroit in Dearborn Heights during the 2003 black out. You want to talk about people LOSING THEIR F#@*&G MINDS? Hood rats with no electricity for more than 24 starts to get bad. Pile no electricity on top of no monthly stipend from uncle Sugar and there will be epic problems, and I suspect that will be our worse case SHTF scenario for us. Especially living as close to down town Columbus as I do.

Shy of mega-quakes or asteroid impacts making a geography change necessary, I think hunkering down with a large group of friends as close to your home is the way to go.

If survival hunting became necessary, any creature worth hunting would be extinct in less than a month.

IMO the vast majority of people dont have the equipment or ability to hunt what they need to survive, and they wouldnt know what to do with it once they caught it anyway.

Agree..........

Right, but if the State of OH said, for 2012 deer season is all year long, you can use any weapon, hunt any deer, and do it anywhere you want. No license required. How many deer would be left in OH?

I could shoot the deer or other animal, but I would be lost on processing it. I'm sure I could figure it out, although the cuts might not be purty. My step father in law hunts deer, so I doubt I would be out there by myself.
