What about throwing.a paint clearcoat over the top, would that help durability?

There is a YouTube video that addresses that. Clearcoat, as we know it, is not a good thing to use if you want to peel it off. There is a gloss coating you can use to make it as glossy as what it takes to make you happy.

I can now have the same paint theme on my helmet as what I put on my bike.

Did the wheels on my runner 6 months ago....powerwashed, off roaded, and doesnt collect dirt too bad at all.

They are the black rattle can plati-dip finish...its nice because when i spray tire shine on tires...i also go over the wheels as well if i want to glass them up

Same here, use black tire wet (I think that's what it's called lol)

dont scuff anything if your wanting to remove down the road...i didnt. Clean wells with some acetone or something similar. Go light on the first 2-3 coats, then you can lay it down a bit thicker. I put about 6-7 coats on my wheels...the more the easier to remove when you want. Use index cards to wedge b/w tire and lip of rim instead of masking.
