  1. Now there's an idea. I start out in the back, everyone I pass gets banned.

  2. I consider myself a very good rider maybe not a great rider and I have never spent a single min on a track. To me riding isn't about my line or how fast I am it's about the adventure and experiences. Like I said I know it's different strokes for different folks.

  3. Hosting two rides is fantastic, I just feel people don't make an effort to attend the rides because 'theres always the other one', then they don't attend the second one either. Up to you guys, I certainly have the time to organize a Fall one.

  4. If any of you are on the way I'll swing by and we can load up everything in my trailer and I'll town you for free if it's your first track experience.

  5. You missed the joke. Hipsters think they've heard/seen/read everything "before it was cool." "How did the hipster burn his mouth?" "He had to drink his coffee before it was cool." "Why don't hipsters eat popsicles?" "They're bored with everything before it's cool." " If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, a hipster will buy it on vinyl."

  7. We'd probably reach 78 about 10:15-10:30. Probably reach 550 closer to 11:30-12:00. Hard to say exact times that far down because of stretch breaks. @whaler might be able to be a bit better person to ask on when we'd get to each location. EDIT: I also would like to eat lunch in Marietta As far as pace, I usually don't hear any complaints about going to slow, I'm on a new bike so I'm not sure how I'll feel comfort wise, so a slower than my normal pace might be a possibility. If my pace is too slow, I have no problem if someone who wants to go faster makes a safe pass and takes the lead. If the pace is too brisk, just have everyone ride their own ride. I have no issues waiting up. I'd easily wait a few minutes at turns/stop signs rather than waiting on rescue. Plus, if I get too far ahead, I like to hop off the bike, pull out the Nikon and shoot photos of the guys coming through corners.

  8. This is the part I don't get. For the same money or less I can take off into mountians on a weekend and get a cheap hotel room and enjoy the scenery and different surroundings. Not going around the same corners over and over again. There is no doubt it's probably fun but I just don't thinks it's as nice as touring and being on the open road. Everyone has different taste and likes I guess.

  10. As some of you may remember from last couple years, my twin brother passed away in a motorcycle accident on July 12, 2012. The closest Saturday (weather permitting) to that date, I always try to make it a point to take a ride in his memory. Anyone interested in riding is welcome. I know vintage days at Mid-Ohio is also this weekend and quite a few have agreed to that. I did just get a new bike, so pace will be according to how I feel on it, if I feel uncomfortable, the faster guys can always take the lead and if I feel fast, I will wait for anyone at stop signs/turns. Meet at 83/250 in Wooster at the MinitMart.. Kickstands up at around 8am. Route will be 83-78-377-550-7-800-26-260-78-83 https://goo.gl/maps/Hbckfept65y Anyone who wants to attend but can't ride the full route is welcome to jump in or jump out at any point they want... just let us know when that will be so we can look for you or know you dropped out to head back and nothing bad happened. This ride is a go, weather permitting. Post up if you are interested.

  11. We can keep it simple, Don't put too much effort into it Derek, certainly don't get family to haul food down. Let's just post a ride up, u just pick a date early fall to avoid too low temp, (don't even post a "date" poll because we never get a unanimous decision) who ever shows up we can split up and go for a ride if just few we do a usual group ride, it's win win either ways

  12. I didn't notice it on the way home today but I'm coming from a FZ-07. If you are used to a wind screen it might be annoying. I think that I ran it up to about 80 between the shop and the office. The rest of the way home was back roads.

  18. I realize I am way late to the party, but the thing you need for your first trackday that no one tells you about is MORE FRESH UNDERWEAR. Putting on a pair of fresh, dry underwear after you've loaded everything up, and before you've started your drive home - it changes your whole outlook on life for the next (several) hundred miles behind the wheel. I don't know why I didn't do so sooner, but now I just immediately wash all my gear when I get home from the track, and then re-pack it in a tupperware bin with my track boots, gloves, back/chest protector, sun tan lotion, safari hat, etc. My gross undersuit, socks, undies, t-shirts, shorts, and all that stuff go straight into the washer when I get home, and my boots/gloves air out for the next 24 hours. I bring my helmet into the shower with me and then put it in front of a fan for 24 hours. Keeps it from getting funky or moldy. Extra undies are just a few more pieces of 'riding gear' as far as i'm concerned. I also think throwing a hand towel in your cooler is an awesome idea too. Ice cold water on your head/neck really keeps your head in the game for the next session.

  20. Generally there's a sale over christmas/new years. You can use the cert as a walk-in without pre registering but I thought I heard somewhere that they are charging the $20 late fee on top of the cert this year(?) Someone else may have a more definitive answer. **Keep in mind that if you show up as a walk-in and the novice group is full you're SOL. I used a cert last year as a walk-in though and it was no problemo.

  21. I agree helmutt....safer while on the track...what about the street. I digress....I wont muck up Derek's thread anymore

  22. Specifically oriented at knowing the capabilities of the bike and being in better body positioning would make cornering safer on the street. Learning how to heavy brake, trail braking, etc...

  23. I question this and am really looking for input. Not being a dik about it. How does track riding make you a better/safer street rider. You don't have the traffic, bad roads...etc. I could see a class dedicated to street principles, and good old fashioned practice/riding with more experienced rideas, but track instruction form cocky instructors??

  24. Thanks for everyone's inputs. Really will give me a lot of things to consider before heading down for my first track day. I'll be sure to bring my mini compressor for tire pressure, bike stands, zip ties, cooler with beverages, and an Open mind. Again, my main reasoning for the track day is to really work on my body positioning and gradually pushing my perceived limits of the bike for me to be safer on the streets.

  25. No, Tom rides an S1000RR. I think I know (of) the dude you're talking about though, that sucks. I wasn't complaining. Years ago when I was a snowboard instructor I would do the same thing if someone did something stupid, it made them stop and think before doing it again. That said, it looks like about everything's been covered that I can think of. Maybe one last thing - start saving for a cheap track bike for next year?

  29. The riders meeting is where you discuss flags and then break out into your group with instructors. Ask the specific time/location from your tech inspector or an instructor running around. The classroom session is basically an informal discussion about the previous session. There is no formal teaching with textbooks or a classroom. My only difficulties and were logistical. You enter in gate 3, sign the waiver at a guard shack on the right. Then continue straight, and turn right into the paddock area, marked by a blue sign on the chainlink fencing. You then turn left into the middle paddock area, which has paint lines on the ground. Depending on volume you can continue straight into the lower paddock/garage area (#10 on map). You check in at a small information booth (#13 on map), then they will give you a class sticker and tell you where tech inspection is (if they don't, ask). Take your class sticker to inspection and put it on your bike. If no one shows you before leaving the novice group meeting, ask how to enter/exit the track from the garage area. Map: https://www.midohio.com/Assets/Images/Pictures/TS-GenTrackMap-09 Take: a cooler with water and snacks the key to your bike!! chair earplugs tire pressure gauge and air tank if you have it. Otherwise I'd air up to stock pressure at home and get some advice from coaches/riders once there and air down to recommended pressures. Everyone is usually really friendly and there to have a good time and help each other out. I went my first time without knowing a single person and within 15 minutes I had three new friends just from people walking by and saying "hello". Plan to get there just before tech opens so you have plenty of time to unload.

  32. Welcome! Went to BG and know the area well. Not much for roads, but there are some fun ones to keep you occupied. 105 to Woodville, 65, 424 from Napoleon to Defiance, and further south you can run 12 from Findlay to Columbus Grove. You can connect them all together and run 105 to 20...run over to Fremont and hit 12 all the way to 115 north to Defiance. In Defiance hit 424 to 65 and back home. Finish the ride off with Myles Pizza (don't forget the cheesy garlic bread) and everything will be right as rain.

  33. @DerekClouser Dont go with first timer group ( slowest ), you're plenty skilled enough to join the medium paced Novice group so you'll be less bored with the speed of the group. Of course, it's totally up to you and your comfort level. If you do feel held up, ask to bump up to a faster novice group. Went to MidO a couple years ago and was only our 2nd trackday. We joined a mid paced group, and wasn't too bad in the morning sessions - after lunch all novice groups ( except the slowest group ) were cut loose to run they're own pace each session, only allowed to pass on the straights. Control riders will be mediating everyone and will pass where they can, but they'll do it safely. Just be aware you may get passed on the outside or down a straight at times, so just hold your line - they'll go around YOU. As far as changing anything on my first trackday? I did mine at Putnam Park with STT. Easy, fast, and flowing course that really lets you focus on body position since the race lines are fairly simple to pickup there. Only regret I had was... ( 1 )forgetting our GoPros, but a pit buddy lent me his so I was still able to capture some of the days fun. Not a bad idea to run a camera up front to see your linework, and another on the tail facing forward to self-critique your body position throughout each session. ( 2 )We chose the beginner novice group at Putnam, and there were a couple spoilers riding in our group that held up progress most of the morning sessions. One guy in particular kept blowing turns, running off track, for no apparent reason other than maybe target fixation. Our instructor was great and accommodating, utlimately pitted the guy so we could keep wicking up the pace. The morning sessions on track were a bore in the slow group, but once we were allowed to apply what we learned in the open afternoon sessions is when the day got much better. Wish I'd picked a faster group to begin with but still had a fun, incident free, 1st trackday.
