  2. You guys should make me a mod. I walk with a cane and have a British accent and I'm a smarmy arrogant fuck. I'm like Dr.House, but uglier.

  3. WTF happened the "This thread is worthless without pics" smiley? @Casper I think @jbot should be disqualified. In a few months he is NOT going to be able to spend the time required to be a mod, due to letting the boys swim.

  7. So, I found a woman willing to put up with my motorcycling obsession and I married her Sunday. We leave Thursday evening to take a 10 day trip out west, with the FJR in tow. The route westward is yet to be decided, and the motorcycling destinations are yet to be decided. But I'm thinking it might be cool to stop for a day of riding in the Ozarks. And then 3-4 days in Colorado. One goal for the trip is to spend time in the Grand Canyon area. The itinerary will be flexible. I don't want to HAVE to be anywhere, at any specific time. But we do want to see the Grand Canyon. Any suggestions for 'must see' areas? 'Must ride' routes? 'Must stop' lodging or accommodations? I think we want to make it a point to stay in old Route 66 motels and see interesting roadside attractions...like the dinosaur mouth in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. Hahaha Ultimately I'd love suggestions on places and roads to ride, whether in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, etc etc. The point is, the route is flexible. We'll go where the good motorcycling takes us. What say you, brethren of the long way home?

  16. Selling me 2 pc suit never wear it any more and never ride my bike for that matter either any more lol but the jacket is size 40 and pants is 34 it fit me good over all, I'm 5'8 and 130-135lbs. Think I've worn it two dozen times if that on group rides and one track day at mid Ohio. The suit hasn't been down at all still good condition, got a few marks from dead bugs. Stitching, Velcro, and the zippers all good. Asking $150 OBO also not really looking to ship but can meet in the middle if possible! Just shoot me a message thank you.

  24. No help here. I'm going to the track on my 9th anniversary Thursday. Hopefully i'm still married when i get home. But we took a trip to Niagara Falls couple weeks ago and went to a fancy steak dinner place for our anniversary dinner. The steakhouse overlooked the falls at night so it was neat. So we kind of already celebrated it. We might go out for a nice dinner this weekend as well.

  26. The Crown Vics are slow compared to everything else law enforcement uses these days. The Taurus and Explorer are no slouch. Explorer supposedly hits 155+ in highway pursuits. It won't accelerate like a bike, but a 600 isn't going to lose one on an open road. Fleeing is a felony. Speeding is a fine and a license suspension at worst. I'd take my chances with stopping and being polite before I risked a felony on my record.

  27. I was in your shoes a year ago in the spring. I to chose to ride the medium pace with hellmutt's group. I think that was the right call for me. I was always riding solo, so it was good to get my feet wet riding with a group before I started riding faster in a group. What I would tell you is that hellmutt pretty much sticks to what is posted as far as speed and such on the first page of this post. I would also tell you that @Hellmutt is a great guy. You will not be disappointed you chose to ride with him. As he mentioned in an earlier post if you like to ride a little bit faster stay close to the front with his group. I did ride with the medium fast group this spring and it definitely was a faster pace.

  28. Thanks a lot guys. Pretty much decided she was the one when she kept asking me to take her for rides, and would rather spend the day on the back of the bike than just about anything else. Great suggestions Casper! That's what I'm looking for. Any other ideas? I've got an open slate of ten days just waiting to be filled with destinations and roads.

  29. I honestly don't know where I should try to place myself. Ride solo 99% of the time so I have no reference. I figure medium is a safe bet? I think I read there will be opportunity to change groups if needed?

  30. You are a brave man taking on a CBR 1000 as your first four stroke motor to work on. The first four stroke I ever worked on was just a single cylinder. I am no expert but what happens with the valves to my understanding is they wear into the head and that is why you they need re-shimmed. I know with quads what happens is the quad sucks dirt in there at times through the air filter and it grinds away on the head. Also just wear and tear from the valves beating on the head. The motor comes stock with shims in it. As far as it being a temporary fix I believe it depends on how far they are off. If you're just talking a couple thousandths probably not a big deal, reshim it. If it's to the point where the shim you are using is down to next to nothing compared to what the original shim was more than likely that valve has beat the snot out of the head and needs redone. There are definitely better mechanics than me on this forum so listen to them over me for sure. This is just my elementary understanding of it all.

  31. I think you @Jester_ and @TRMN8TR have ruined me.

  32. Lapping the valves should be sufficient. If you recut the seats you should also get the valves themselves ground and then lap them in. None of this replaces the shims, those are on the other side of the head.

  35. Earplug tickets are cheaper than hearing aids. Last time I was pulled over on the bike I specifically said to the cop; "Is it OK if I remove my helmet so I can take my earplugs out and hear you better?" He was fine with that and didn't react at all to the earplugs, they were a non-issue for him. No ticket for the speeding either, despite being more than 25 over. Just a friendly slow-the-fuck-down chat.

  37. I had a great day overall. It was nice to see some folks from the board. Something broke at the end of the second session but Yamaha was there for demos, so I rode an R6 the rest of the day. Behind a control rider, but still had fun. The track was really fun, looking forward to going back. If I can get the CBR back together by this weekend, I'll try to make Mid-Ohio next Monday. This track day stuff is pretty neat. How Far Past Redline Were You?

  42. I'm not sure about myself, but if you honestly don't know why these gents were picked from the bunch you obviously don't know the life blood of this forum and what they have or can contribute. If I had to choose of the other 4 who I would vote for. Id have to give it some thought I can see why they all have been chosen. And yes I'm in the Clique, it's the OR family clique. Like to think of you all as my brothers and sisters and like to call you all friends. I'll bat for any of you crazy fuckers and will not stand when some asshat steps in and try to stir the shit with any of you. I know that sounds like some kind of campaign speech but that's the way I've always felt about this place. Even before all the Mod talk.
