Just finished my visit. Short version. F'ing miracle. Long version... he is totally there, remembers our ride the day before. Remembers specifics of the fz6 and who he knows had one. Details about me, my son...everyone. Maybe a tiny bit slow remembering really complicated words.... like medical terms. But that is a maybe. He always had a bit of that style in the way he talked, he would pause to make sure he was using the exact word he wanted. He is moving any second now to Metro for rehab. Both physical and cognitive. 8 days without moving creates a fair amount of physical issues that you just need to exercise through. Any cognitive rehab will be based on an evaluation.4 points

If your gas pump blasts commercials in my ear I will never return and may leave mid fillup. It would be a shame if the speaker got doused with fuel.2 points

Mine almost always does in the rain, so I just don't use it anymore. Plus, I hate talking to people.2 points

There should be trophies. One for the biggest crash too. Lifeflights are extra special bonus points.2 points

Just for the info for newer guyswho are not part of the clique- all this hazing is just for time pass. Ride was in good pace safe manner following "the pace" these guys are just ribbing each other. Except for the one guy who shouldn't be riding in this group speed and roads all others were atgatt and just enjoying the ride. But he kept lvl head and survived and will definitely be a better rider if he keeps coming back. Some roads were real tricky and prolly not to be ridden on questionable tires. Ask me how I know, about a month ago I did 536 on pure 360 run around cords, not a shred of rubber let alone thread lol the last time I saw a questionable rider in one of the ride I put together, I was thinking at every stop whtr to talk to him and ask him to stay put and stay back. But thought what would he think , kept procrastinating and then he crashed real bad. I will never let it happen again. if I ever call a ride out and me or others have obvious doubts about a rider he will be talked to in private, Which I still don't feel comfortable doing. It's not because others are gods to riding or it's not because we are "uncrashsble" it's just we been there done that and have that "common sense of riding" which takes time and miles to build. Better to avoid the scenario which leaves him scarred and u feeling weight of guilt. And again to newer folks to forum, all this calling out and stuff is just pure fun. In an Actual ride there is no race among riders, better riders ride fast and ahead and wait for others. There is no illegal passing and fighting for corner position etc. Of course deep inside, almost all if not most active peeps here thinks they are faster and better, it's just part of our inner psych as flawed humans. We have our own thought process, I could be the fastest in this part of the world, only if my bike was latest tech, only if it had few more ponies, only if it was lighter, only if roads were smoother, only if I was more younger. But the truth of the matter is almost all the frequent actual riders in this forum are great riders, atgatt and with lot of experience and "common ride sense" And as soon as ride starts they just stick to what they can do and do that best and try to improve every ride. There is always somebody faster than you in some situation, everybody has there favorite scenarios. And if those particular combination of situation comes along they ride the balls off and tires off. So with that big wall of nonsense, let's keep it real, let's organize a race in 536 all we need is two "road closed" sign for north and south end lol2 points

Another choose my bike thread!!!! Currently ride road but want to get into mountain/trail riding. I know nothing of mountain bikes. I've read some articles and such. I don't need carbon or anything fancy; sticking with flat peddles. Disc brakes and hard-tail. Other than that, i have no idea. My main question is what size wheels? Seems like 29 is the go-to at the moment. But would 26 really be that much different? Would the following be a good starter bike? https://cleveland.craigslist.org/bik/d/specialized-hardrock-sport/6229496416.html My budget is probably $5-600. There are a lot of bikes on craigslist but i don't know brands enough to know what is decent and what i should avoid. Maybe there are new bikes in that range that would be sufficient. Thanks in advance!1 point

Forgot you're a legend on that site, my bad. SVRider is where I first saw it back in 2009 or something. The hole drilling thread was pretty amazing too.1 point

Lets do a group ride sometime. I'm on a full rigid fat bike so I'm not flying through the rough terrain either. West Branch is fun and I know its real close to IP but probably not others. I've promised myself I would ride Mohican and Medina this season and I need to get back to Vultures Knob sometime, have not been there for years.1 point

That is a genius idea, we will do that. Much easier than my plan and more accurate. This is the kind of out of the box thinking we need to make this event a success. Thanks man!!1 point

You mean this turn? https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3RIrH_3TEsiamxDYjRIWGF4dmM (How do you embed a video?) Yes, we were going far faster than we should've been in that first downpour. But my PR4s with <1k miles felt great, I don't know what Derek was complaining about. All things considered, I had an absolute blast on this ride, it was great meeting y'all. Worked on removing those silly acorn nuts from the bottoms of my footpegs and, apparently, the bottom of my rear brake lever. I wish I could ride roads like that every day instead of the vast checkerboard of NW Ohio. As if it needs repeating... Toledo sucks. My boots are still wet.1 point

Just got off the phone with John. We talked for about 15 minutes. He talks fairly normally, you can tell he struggles a bit in remembering certain things. He is rehabbing and learning to walk again. He said yesterday he walked 2 times and was exhausted and that was the worst part. Definitely a miracle. So happy to hear his voice and talk. He doesn't remember anything from this entire ordeal which is probably for the best but he does remember before and after, so memory doesn't seem to affected all that much. He struggles very occasionally in his speech but I'm sure that will fade as time goes on. John, you truly are a fighter. We all knew you could do it. I also asked when he expected to be back on a motorcycle and he is shooting for a month hahahaha. Now that's a true biker for life.1 point
