My daughter just got her moped temps this past Saturday. She has rode dirt most of her life, but I was still very nervous when she pulled away for her first solo ride. We put on about 40 miles between Saturday and this morning... I was like a nervous nelly as she rode away for band practice this morning.2 points

Yamaha and their ratmobiles. Phazers, phazers everywhere. (My second snowmobile was a Yamaha Sno Scoot, I loved the hell out of that thing)1 point

Guess I didn't realize this.... Cherohala Skyway - The road gets its name from the Nation Forest it climbs through - in NC it's the Nantahala Forest, in TN it's the Cherokee Forest. Combining the two names resulted in "Cherohala". Because the road climbs to and follows along the highest ridges it's a bonafide skyway with views that stretch for 50 miles. Now you know.1 point

This thread reminds me of the time I kept sending @Isaac's Papa links to used oem sprockets for some race bike I was riding a few years ago in an effort to be a cheap ass. He was very kind and put up with it for about 3 links and finally told me "holy shit stop sending me ebay links you cheap fuck". Paraphrasing, the actual words were probably more hurtful.1 point

Ok, she is hitting on all 4, and once I adjusted the throttle cable to actually have free play it idles at 1200 instead of 5000. Gas tank is uuberfucked. I can hear the rust and denatured gas sloshing around inside. Gonna cork it up and fill with vinegar and let it sit a while, then seal with phosphoric acid. The charging system is another issue.....typical Honda v4....guessing the regulator/ rectifier is shot by the looks of this plug and the fact that the headlight plug is also burnt and melted. I thought the right side muffler had been unclampedand taken off, nah, it rusted off so now I get to buy new pipes too... but it idles and revs really nice....1 point

Join the CAMBA facebook groups. there is an "open" group and a "closed" group. If you say you want an entry level hardtail, you'll get plenty of options in your budget. I also feel like people in CAMBA are slightly less likely to sell you junk than a random on CL, since they can't remain anonymous as easily. I am all in for a group ride, but unlike @CBBaron I will be attempting to set the world on fire on a rigid fat bike, tackling the chunk All joking aside though, $500-$600 should get you a bike that's perfectly adequate for 90% of the local terrain. Almost every time I ride, someone comments on how slow my bike will climb, or how much I'll have to brake before ___________ section. The people making those comments have never passed me or caught up to make a second comment. That's not to say I haven't been absolutely humiliated by 50 yr old dudes with beer guts who have better leg strength and endurance, but they're not fast because they have nicer bikes, they have nicer bikes because they're fast enough to rationalize them.1 point

I still remember riding my moped when I was 14 and can't believe my parents let me do it! I will definitely be riding with them for quite a while before they have freedom to go by themselves like I did. I feel your pain!1 point

I picked up a new to me 08 kawasaki concours c14 abs last week. I had a shoulder injury at work that has kept me off of my supermoto and ZX10-R but I've been itching to ride. So I used that as an excuse to pick up a touring bike. I've wanted one of these for years and finally pulled the trigger. I haven't really had it out on any real curves yet but it feels really planted and smooth in the handling department. The power delivery is very smooth which makes it hard to judge speed. When accelerating it feels like in doing 80 then I look down and I'm pushing 115. I plan on throwing a turbo on it down the road and running 8psi. Hoping for around 200hp when it's done. But it's going to take me a while to source the parts for a custom turbo build and put it together. I'm going to take it out today without the top bag and hit some curves to see how sporty of a tourer it actually is.1 point

Aren't you a Doc? Can't you prescribe yourself something for that? " Wind therapy, cycle therapy. PRN. Apply thrust and velocity as needed until tremors stop." See...something like that1 point

Checked your birth date. Yeah, it's very possible and I believe you. ^_^ Sounds safer for grips than hair! "Hairspray is essentially a spray that contains industrial polymers...it still contains formaldehyde..."1 point

https://goo.gl/maps/7sigJYiLopF2 Ok, that's a start. Open to changing things up but that's pretty much what Rick posted up earlier and at least it's in map form. Timing? I have to work Saturday mornings, but I can work some extra hours and bail early. Getting to Otsego at 10 is good for me. How's that work for you @durk? I'm bad at guessing timing to various stops along the way and I'm too tired to do math now. Quick gas stop in New Concord, I'll be needing some about then after leaving Columbus. I figure we'd stop in McConnelsville for gas, candy bar, and a drink then get back toward 377. After that, who knows when the next gas stop will be. I don't need to be back home at any particular time, but I'd rather not dilly dally. Saturday weather looks perfect. 75 and sunny.1 point

Don't let Tim lie to you, he trailers to Knoxville on 75, unloads in the Maryville Walmart parking lot, rides down 129 to the lookout, takes a selfie and turns around to head back home. He can't haul 5 sets of spare tires with him on his bike so this is his way of mitigating fucking racebike effect on trips farther than the local starbucks.1 point

Congrats on the new ride! Change the oil and occasionally check the valve clearance, and it will be a reliable bike.1 point

Oh yea another thing, if you have the original TPMS in the wheels and the battery dies they can be taken apart and replaced. Not made to be but it is possible. If they have been replaced with the new style already they are now sealed units and can't be done.1 point

Don't use hh sintered brake pads on those stock rotors or they will warp. Keep stock pads or another softer pad like carbons. If youvwant it to stop even better get a set of EBC rotors and the hh sintered pads. They will make a strange wooosh sound but stopping power is off the chart.1 point

Yea they run warm, the 2010 have a different faring to handle the heat better and keep ot away fromvthe rider. The 08 and 09 just have to keep them rolling ..lol If You ever smell oil burn or get a puff of smoke on start ups there is a O ring on the front cam sensor that is a very common leak. Dosnt hurt anything just annoying. I've replaced mine with a slightly thicker one and seems to not leak anymore.1 point
