  1. I said I was old not slow. I really enjoy following Jschaf, It's a ninja thing. His helmet reminds me of my glock's front sight having him out front creates a calm focused sight picture for me. On the other side Durk has a flashing strobe brake light and a huge Dead Hooker Bag on his seat rack that makes me thing I am following "Biggie Smalls."

  5. I hate to speak too soon, but things are lining up for this trip to work for me. I have a bike trip the 5-9th, then roll into a training event in GA the 12-16. The 11th being a travel day, so I only have to add the 10th to my vacation, then I don't even have to come home. The 17th also being a travel day, I'll just add 18-20. By adding 4 days of vacation, I'll basically be 2 1/2 weeks on the bike.

  6. It also adds a good 2.5 months to the riding season.

  7. Ohfercryingoutloud Tonik, stop fucking with the guy. He's right about the ones supplied to Kawasaki having to meet a certain spec and the NAPA ones maybe, maybe not, but we aren't talking about a fuel nozzle for a rocket motor here. It's a loop of metal the crushes to form a seal. I've used both OEM and off the shelf from the parts store. If you install it and tighten it properly and it doesn't leak once you get it all bled out and apply full pressure, then it'll be fine. It's not something that will develope a leak over time, in my experience. It'll either work right off or it won't. The question should really be - are you willing to risk additional down time if the cheap substitute fails on installation?

  9. Hey Brian, What say I follow you tomorrow. That Glock sight focused on my helmet makes me a little nervous.

  10. I did this ride last year without heated gear. I now have a Gerbing jacket liner because of this trip.

  11. I dont think so. Dont go ultra cheap but the $20+ helmets are fine. Make sure it fits well. I really like the racheting mechanism on most Bell helmets. Makes the fit quick and easy. More expensive get lighter and better air flow. Sometimes nicer fit features. If you want to start hucking the downhill trails then get a full face. Otherwise they all protect similarly.

  12. Yes, because it would have allowed me to swap bars back and forth by only adding one matching grip as opposed to changing two, then needing to remove and re-install one if I changed the bars back. So, while it DID hurt to ask if someone just happened to have one laying around, it would have been very convenient. The new bars are a LOT different than what I was expecting, which is why I had a back-up plan. heh Since I just moved my existing grip, I still have a used left grip anyway! The right one is used, too! When I want new grips, I'll get them. I just wanted new bars, which I got.

  14. I use the free version of Strava on my phone (no external GPS or anything like that). I leave my phone in my tail bag, unless its' super cold out, and my phone shuts down on its own... Then i will keep it in my hip pocket or the water bottle pocket of my jersey (which I rarely wear) so my body warms the phone. I would look at my phone too often and probably crash if I had it mounted where I could see it. Plus I think i would cause the battery to drain more than necessary. Strava allows the screen to go black and 'lock' when you're leaving it alone. And yes, the pins on flat pedals will eat up running shoes. My trail running shoes have chunks taken out of the tread from riding my bike. I didn't realize this until I had already purchased clipless shoes, but I would have made that a higher priority if I'd noticed sooner. And I have scars on my left shin...

  15. Is it really worth buying 1 used grip as opposed to just buying 2 new ones?

  16. Installed a new battery. Old one lasted 5 years and 100,000 miles.

  17. I just watched your ride video. So you can say what you wanna say, but I now know your secrets(not sure what they are really). Next time we ride that road it's on. No time trials like Tonik spoke of either it's straight up grudge match on the street. Don't worry I don't plan to be following you. I plan to stuff you in a corner and see you at the end, off my bike taking pics as you were. Totally joking btw, because my guess is it will be the same result as Tuesday. Me tensing up going where the heck does this road go as I crest a hill and head through the next blind corner at a turtle's pace.

  18. I've only got scar tissue left on my shins from racing BMX when I was young. We would file those f'ers until they were razor sharp....for some stupid reason.

  21. Fuel Mart is my vote, for the following reasons. 1. Tradition. That is where we always meet, don't move my cheese please. 2. Giant snak and beverage selection. 3. @Killer_kaw lives next door and often walks over to chat. In fact that is how we met him and he came to hang out here. 4. Plenty of parking along the wall. We had 10+ bikes there last week. 5. It isn't a shithole.
