  1. Loading 3 videos... be back in maybe an hour, geez... edit: uploaded videos to the photobucket album. Sorry about the bumpy/shakey stuff, the wind was pushing me and the camera around. PhotoBucket links for videos: http://s388.photobucket.com/albums/oo323/ReconRat_album/Grimes%20B-25%20-%202012/?action=view&current=Picture381.mp4 http://s388.photobucket.com/albums/oo323/ReconRat_album/Grimes%20B-25%20-%202012/?action=view&current=Picture379.mp4 http://s388.photobucket.com/albums/oo323/ReconRat_album/Grimes%20B-25%20-%202012/?action=view&current=Picture376.mp4
  2. Stayed about 5 hours and bombed out when it got crowded. Missed the P-51. Was told several warbirds would arrive about 4pm from Texas. Very difficult taking photos in gusty winds... Best 9 of 380. Contrast bumped on one, and some auto leveling on three. Otherwise raw images. Slide Show
  3. I've got a spot on asphalt to park in. In the middle area. Look for it.
  4. Still windy, dress warm. Layers, because hot later on.
  5. Nope, filled up already. Even used the Kroger card for discount. Big surprise engine shutting off when leaned over. Real low on gas, ya think?
  6. Half hour early. Windy. Ranout of fuel when I turned the corner. No problem, gas station right there.
  7. dang it, I thought I posted this. Trying again... The official US Marines museum has been in operation since 2004. Details of artifact donations and contacts: http://www.usmcmuseum.com/CTA_Donate.asp From this website: http://www.usmcmuseum.com/index.asp
  8. I do remember that that particular problem was designed out. One idiot in my unit put a round in an AC-130 wing fuel tank doing that.
  9. heh, I had a friend with lots of experience, drop the slide on a old Mauser pistol and it went off and put a hole in his wood floor. You never know. Weak firing pin springs, trouble right there... the safety won't always prevent it from firing. Bang the butt of an old M-16 on the ground and see what happens. Please stand clear of the muzzle. Safety on, bolt carrier to the rear and out of battery. It often chambers a round and fires...
  10. Hmmm, somebody somewhere thinks they need protection from rpgs. Where's that? Cartels along the Mexican border? Probably.
  11. MacArthur's signature probably wouldn't be on a US Marine document. But Chester Nimitz would be the guy. Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal, Major General Harry Schmidt, General Graves Erskine, Colonel Chandler Johnson, Sergeant Mike Strank, photographer Joe Rosenthal, photographer Louis R. Lowery, or the guys that raised the flag, Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block, Michael Strank, John Bradley, Rene Gagnon and Ira Hayes; those would be great signatures to find. All involved in the attack on Mount Suribachi and the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. Other commanders would be: Holland Smith Marc Mitscher Alexander Vandegrift Clifton Cates Keller Rockey I'd get a value, and start trying to find one of the national or US Marine museums that would like to have it. The donation would probably be tax deductible for you, if it's a non-profit. Also, there's been seven US Navy ships named Iwo Jima. Any still floating would love to have it.
  12. Just slow down as the wind speed picks up. Worst case is a tail wind when you go into a turn. You might not realize it's there, and when you turn, it's now a side wind trying to push you off the road, and it can do that if you're going into that turn hot. Fair warning. It happens.
  13. Good point. Yeah, that's a West Coast thing. Flashing will set them in motion. I'm more likely to put the brights on and leave them on for a while. Sooo, no flashing on/off, too risky. edit: Seriously, in California if you're stuck on the side of the freeway and can't pull out, the cars will flash headlights to let you know to get moving. They will make a spot. Not sure what other parts of the country do that, but that would be a mistake if not meaning to give that message.
  14. Riding into work Friday morning. Got up late. Sun rising behind me. Cars can't see me coming. Usually I stay behind a car, and let the car clear the way. Same for foggy mornings. But traffic was rather light, so it was time for Kamikaze out of the Sun! Warning, this behavior is not recommended for multiple reasons. When I spotted cars waiting to turn left in front of me, I'd drive straight at them. Weaving to show the headlight moving around. Sometimes flashing high beams too. And reducing speed as approaching to give them more clues that I was there. Until it's clear they see me and aren't turning. Look them in the eye. And then Boom! down shift and blast past their vehicle. No, I don't do that to school buses. Don't trust them. I try to hide behind cars when I see school buses trying to turn left. Really, just stay behind a car in the mornings that the Sun is behind you. But watch for an occasional vehicle trying to turn suddenly behind your car in front. Same for fog. If none available, just reduce speed and work at getting attention of approaching vehicles. Logic would say stop and wait for 10 or 15 minutes till conditions are better, but we seldom do that. For some reason, not sure if true, I think that people have a primitive instinct for seeing something that is moving straight at them. Sort of a survival instinct. From what I've read, mixing up the headlights to have some combination of white/bluish white/yellow works very well at catching attention and making people try a lot harder to see what is approaching. I sort of wish there was a headlight that could switch color temperatures, and change color. edit: I've got a bright aux LED headlight kit, it's about time I installed it. But technically, the larger the diameter of headlight, the better it works at getting attention. You don't want to look like a slow moving bicycle.
  15. I forgot about that chase that caused a fatality with the pursuing officer. You are correct. Clear risk of crash for all involved, as well as others that stumble into the path. I'd think with the increased "lack of attention, busy with phone/music/distractions" type behavior currently popular that any high speed stuff through a populated city would be not really be possible. Was teaching a young kid defensive driving, and she said "why do I have to use a turn signal when I can see no one is there?". I laughed, and said it's for that one you didn't see coming at you. And it will happen. How many chase videos have we seen from the air, where a vehicle stumbles into the path of the chase without warning.

    Thanks...

Sometimes you have to go with Fate. Some call it Destiny, Luck, Opportunity... etc. Meaning it's a chance to find something even better. Just do it. Besides, who hasn't been too late on something for sale.
  17. I'm thinking about a pre-dawn departure and blasting out of Columbus before dawn on Sunday. That means I'll probably be at the Frisch's in Urbana between 8 and 9 eating breakfast. Don't forget to bring kickstand pucks if on a bike and parking on the grass. edit: oh, and watch out for deer crossing on Rt 29, early in the morning. They travel in packs across the road.
  18. Interested, but I'd have to see it first. What year is it? edit: oops, it says enhanced, that's 2011-2012 intro?
  19. Weather forecast changed. Rain on Saturday. .25 inch over 4 hours. Sunday clearing with clouds and no rain. Temps 50F to 80F. Monday thunderstorms possible, but saying zero rain over zero hours right now. Sunday now will be the best day. I'll check again tonight.
  20. oh hey, yet another lesson... don't sell off the evidence... Theft charges against stunt riders withdrawn
  21. A lose-lose-lose-lose scenario... stop the chase, crashes anyway, passenger dies, murder charges. Man Charged With Murder After Motorcycle Crash Wichita, Kansas. Strangely similar to the one in Oregon. edit: comments say the passenger had outstanding warrants...
  22. So dude, how was your day? "My motorcycle backfired and I got beat down and charged with terrorism." Mexican state charges motorcyclists with terrorism
  23. Still waiting for somebody to ask for a sticker that says: "Still Squeezin'"
  24. The vapors from gasoline in the stomach would no doubt enter the lungs. In most people, respiration arrest occurs, and they stop breathing immediately. edit: well ok, it takes quite a bit, like swallowing gasoline accidentally... oh, wait...duh...
  25. true, true... unfortunately with meth it's difficult to figure which end the bullet comes out of...
