The sad fact is that city people don't shoot and eat the city animals like they used to do back in the day. The result is some rather large populations of healthy city animals that live well over 10 years instead of the normal 2 or 3 of their rural cousins. They get that from eating human garbage with all it's nutrients and vitamins. The result is many more offspring than is normal, raising the population even higher. This is not natural, nor is it healthy for humans. Most of these animals carry diseases that harm humans and other animals we domesticate.

If that's a gravity door type live trap, roll it over with a pole or rope. The door should open? Let him just go away. Spring loaded is harder, you'll have to cover the trap with towels or blankets so you can't be seen (the side away from the door), and prop the door open at least 5 inches. Like with a brick. Leave it that way till the skunk is gone. Either way, a towel or blanket over the back half of the trap, will be where the skunk will hide. And it won't spray what it can't see unless it's really agitated. So don't pick the cage up and shake it. heh. edit: keep another big towel or blanket between you and it as you approach and back away. Just in case. edit2: btw, rabid skunks are quite common. Some say 90% are rabid. Definitely wear gloves goggles space suit no matter what you do. And do everything from upwind, never downwind.

Yeep, can't learn nothing from old boring guys and gals. What could they possible know about motorcycles or fun. Other than they managed to stay alive for a considerable amount of time. You do have one point though, with age the concept comes that a motorcycle is a tool, not a toy. Same amount of fun, just a different viewpoint. edit: note that the 1976 Honda listed above was my 4th or 5th motorcycle. Hard to remember all the motorcycles...

Thermostat or ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor. Thermostat opens at 180F on that bike. The radiator cooling fan comes on at 220F, and shuts off at 212F. The ECT will read temperature based on resistance. Any additional resistance in the wiring between the ECT and the "computer" would read a higher temperature. Easiest fast check is to put a good thermometer in the coolant fill port. Observe when the flow starts as the thermostat opens, observe the temperature of the coolant on the thermometer, and observe what the temperature at instrument cluster shows at that same time. Be prepared to put the coolant fill cap back on quickly and/or shut the engine off. Judge which is off, the thermostat or the ECT. A thermostat that is wrong, will need replacing. An ECT that is wrong, needs to have the resistance checked right at the sensor. If the sensor is ok, check the wiring for resistance (bad/dirty connections). This would also "burp" the system if necessary, by letting the system push any air out while you've got the fill port open. There will be some motion or expansion before the thermostat actually opens and coolant flow begins in the system. Keep the coolant off of painted parts if it overflows a little. Have a water hose or something ready to flush it off stuff. But basically, in hot weather like we have now, your temps should stay between 180F and 220F, as displayed on your instruments. That would be normal. Actually, at all times, that is the operating range.

There's 3 models of 2000 trx300. KBB has values for the 3. Here's the good condition trade in values: TRX300 - $1100 TRX300EX - $950 TRX300FW 4x4 - $1310 So $1500 sounds too high to me from your description. Depending on the cost of repairs, of course.

Thanks for the info. Figured it had to be mold mark to be radial, but have never seen one wear at the mold line. I wonder if either of mine will do that.
-
ok, because it's kinda blistering and scuffed on just one side of the radial mark, I'm going out on a limb and suggest that the softer compound on the side of the roadsmart is starting to debond/delaminate (come apart as originally vulcanized). That takes forever on a car to get bad. Not sure how long on a bike.
-
I've got two rear roadsmarts. I'll look at those for anything odd. I sort of remember some internet talk about problems with roadsmarts (dual compound tires in general) back when they first came out, but nothing after that. Dunno now...
-
It would take a lot of over inflation. Remember that when the bike is in motion and warms up (a lot), the tire pressures go quite high, compared to the base pressures the tire started with.

Yeah, I saw that. Disgusting. And basically it's currently more about city revenue than anything else. I know most cities will not allow "food gardens" on the street side of a property. I also know that I hide food plants in flower beds because I'm a smart ass. My front yard gets the sun, not the backyard. I think there is no longer a valid reason for that particular city code, and everyone should plan on a front yard garden for next year. Rock the boat. edit: I hope she can get support from her neighbors when the time comes. Either signatures, or an extremely large group of people showing up at the hearing. Sometimes protest is both good and appropriate beyond words.

Tough question. The radial mark is very strange. I can think of no reason for a mark like that. None that should exist, anyway. The part that looks like a scuff mark isn't too worrisome, except that I wouldn't expect a tire to scuff so easily. It looks a bit blistered, which is also part of the mystery. My worry would be the actual tire compound consistency, and the method of manufacture. More info please, tire manufacturer and model type. You'll have to watch this spot for changes. Apparently it developed fairly rapidly. edit: and remind me to eyeball it the next time I'm around...

hahaha... dude, Army training in Panama, you didn't dare let go of your rifle or anything else. Darn monkeys would run off with it.
-
Email invite arrived. Will execute tonight. Thanks.
-
Nonsense. There's nothing wrong with putting it back, if a spot can be seen. Although I doubt if it will stick for long, and will come off again. What does seem wrong, is how much total weight there is. The tire should have been rotated on the rim, and rebalanced, until a position between the tire and rim had a better condition with less balancing weights.

This is the poster/print everyone wants: It's the one with all the birds in flight in the foreground. I've got a bunch of shuttle photos from when I worked at Rockwell. Big 18"x24". (And B-1B and Apollo photos.) I should dig them out, I haven't looked at them in years.

Squirrels? Hell, one of my dogs jumped out the window of a moving car when she saw a squirrel. Didn't do that again...

Correct. That's the place to be. The guy that lives across the street from my Parents down there, gets tickets all the time. He retired from the control center, and now is usually at the French Guyana launch site. My Parents have gone multiple times. edit: I've even gotten the ladder out and watched launches and landings from on the roof of their house. Not a bad view.

geez... file charges of theft by deception...
-
Me too. I wanted to fly down and see the last one. I've seen day and night launches and landings. But I never tire of watching. I actually was there camping out on the stinking Banana River for the first launch. It's tricky seeing a launch, there will probably be 3 to 5 million people backed up more than 60 miles in all directions, trying to see this last one. Now thinking of catching an Atlas or Delta launch a little later this year. edit: news says only one million people estimated for this launch. But the local papers estimated 3 million for the previous launch, by additionally counting all the people stuck on the roads trying to get there. It backed up all the way to Orlando.

Wonderful news! I think two Bens is a good thing. Now for two Caries.

Get the word out in that area. Many dogs ran away during the 4th July fireworks. But that was 3 or 4 days ago, and may have traveled far. Check close for ID or microchips and stuff. http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2011/jul/06/holiday-fireworks-fills-shelter-lost-dogs-ar-592175/

So, the exam is no longer about regulations? It's all about politicians and fines? Who cares who the Director of Highway Safety is...

crazy sand storm at my aunts house in AZ..pics
ReconRat replied to Steve Butters's topic in Dumpster
I flipped through over a hundred photos of the sand storm today. Fascinating. It is very dark inside a sand storm. Iraq troops could easily get lost in a sand storm and not be able to find the way back. Not even a few feet, if they got directionally confused.
