  1. That's a biker friendly bar, from the ColumbusBiker.com list. Rumor is a good fried baloney sandwich. Might be a nice turn around point for a quick ride some night. I drive past it all the time, I think it's been there a hundred years.
  2. Metal makes noise, hell, it sings a song. It might just be the changing to new and different parts. Especially if you went with an aluminum rear sprocket, and didn't have one before. At least do this, inspect the work done. Get the back wheel up, and slow spin the tire. Look at where the rear gear teeth are walking through the back of the chain. Viewed directly from behind, looking at the chain. The gear teeth should be nicely centered, if it's aligned properly. If the gear teeth appear to be over too far one way or the other, it's striking the chain, and would make extra noise. Having some new vibration with the noise, is a different story.
  3. The choices are: 1. Some database says you own a Harley. 2. Some database says you live in or near Jackson, Tennessee. 3. Some database says you might be interested in owning a Harley. 4. You have a secret admirer. 5. Some one thinks you need one.
  4. Yup, gremlin bell. It usually get mounted low and forward on the frame. Not just Harleys, but metric cruisers have them also. I know a few people that have them. Supposedly the bell's power is doubled if given as a gift. I haven't ever seen one on a Honda...
  5. Really nice! That was fun. Not done yet. Good find. Short sentences.
  6. In further news, JRM got here first.
  7. Not exactly, but the rider on the motorcycle can beat the odds. A motorcycle is over three times less likely to be in an accident, but when it does, the rider is more likely to be injured. Read this interesting article, which will basically tell you to wear your gear and not be an asshat. Beating The Odds Requires that you behave ABNORMALLY
  8. Those are all new roads to me. Or it's been a long time since I've been out there. I'll have to try this sometime.
  9. A bike will bog down when attempting to accelerate if it lacks spark or has a fuel problem. Carbs and FI meter fuel per air flow, so there's not really anything like too much air. I would check battery for 13.5 volts or better. Checking the alternator output is a good thing to do, but isn't as easy. I like to check the plugs for clues, but it would be best to shut the engine off and stop when it is actually acting up. Pull a plug right there and check it's condition. That's not so easy on some bikes. (It was easy on vertical twins.) Check the fuel delivery. Pull the fuel hose off the carb, and let it flow into a glass container. It should deliver a certain amount in a set length of time, per the service manual. It should be clean, no water, and flow smoothly. Beyond that, the carbs will probably have to come off and be cleaned, checked, and repaired. edit: the newer bikes use a vacuum controlled fuel valve on the tank. If it gets messed up, it won't let much fuel flow through it.
  10. They already have all that information, they just don't manage it and retrieve it very well. So this is more of an attempt to pull it all together, and will probably fail and be mismanaged as well. What it would do, is manage forward into the future. After several generations, it could be a reasonably complete database. But that is pretty much what was thought in the previous attempts to control and manage information. Generally, updates to systems and software, either handle the old database poorly, or completely discard it. Generally, databases rely upon the accuracy of information entered into them. For various reasons, that information is too often inaccurate. Over time, the errors accumulate. Which of course, leads to increasingly false assumptions about everything, when decisions are made.
  11. Go straight to Logan or Zanesville, and take just about any road from there.
  12. I will mention nurse dress up night, May 6th, a Thursday...
  13. I caught it. I just wanted to see how long it took for the SECOND person to catch it...
  14. The most recent trend in motorcycle fatalities and accidents, from last year, is the apparent drastic increase in involvement of motorcycles that are over 1200cc. That 1200+ category is involved in a rather large proportion of accidents and fatalities. But like any other statistic, it's really hard to ever say one way or the other. The amounts shown would lead to believing that there is an overall drastic reduction in the trends for all categories that are below 1200cc. And it's a new trend, that only raises more questions, not providing answers. edit: Ok, I just looked up the recent NHTSA releases, and outside of a brief unsupported blurb about motorcycle percentages declining, in an unrelated document about state safety programs, there isn't anything other than a four year trend of declining percents for all vehicles.
  15. Seldom is a problem with a property line an accident. It's by far deliberate, and people do it all the time. Parking on the streets? Letting one rule slide and enforcing another isn't right. Parking on the wrong side of the streets deserves certified letters sent to establish liability in case of an accident. I keep thinking about a certain HOA I remember in Florida. The nicest bestest "never in trouble" member... was a Cuban drug dealer being watched by the Feds. Nice house though. Really really nice house. Moved suddenly before anything happened...

  22. It's a standard. The original UJM was a vertical twin, long before Inline 4s. But yes, air-cooled Inline 4 is the classic UJM. Seems to me a UJM should be any "they all look alike" Japanese motorcycle, of which a bunch of them are sold. By rough definition, no V-4 would be a UJM. None were really copied or imitated by any other motorcycle company.
