  1. I thought the Congress made laws, and the President approved them. Except for those pesky presidential mandates. A president doesn't have as much power as people think. Influence yes, international power yes, domestic power, not so much. It's called a republic.
  2. A splendid example is the current issue of spying on heads of state. Which can't be done without Presidential approval according to the spy agencies. Yet there are claims didn't know? Not likely.
  3. You are correct, but different people have different needs. Loose fit is rather reliable, and quick and easy, and cheap to produce. The biggest attraction of a military 1911 is a 230 grain hardball moving at subsonic speeds with a suppressor. It's a good bit of work to tighten up a stock 1911 for competition. What do ordinary citizens want? Probably a little of both worlds put together.
  4. New game! Beat this... Shooters Arms Mfg .45 ACP Military Pistol $349.99 http://www.slickguns.com/product/shooters-arms-45-acp-425-or-5-barrel-399 Made in the Philippines but not by Amscor. Appears to be a Century Arms import. Rough finish. Maybe forged instead of cast slide. Magazines supplied are inferior. Forums have generally favorable reviews. hrm, if I see one, I'll take it...
  5. For those that wonder... 1911s are like the AK47 of the pistol world. Dirt grime mud frozen they still work. Most of them solid steel and have a hefty amount of energy down range. Loose fit yes, very. Tighten them up and it's just another pistol.
  6. Of course not. We should remember that. We should also remember that the 7 bikes on the road passed 5000 sitting in garages. Half of them Harleys. edit: I probably passed you in the cold fog one of those days...
  7. Not sure what Dale is up to since he closed his shop. If he's still doing transfers I'd like to hear about it. I would still do that.
  8. Some of the cheap 1911 clones are worth it. I've seen claims that the Norinco copy is a good basis for a build. I think I remember people happy with the Brazil clone also. Either way, on the cheap stuff some of the parts changed might not fit properly. But that was yesteryear, and times change. Right now I'd look at the Remington, the High Standard, the Iver Johnson and the Armscor Rock Island. Cheaper choices. Google up some reviews and see what they say. Particularly the Remington, since they made them in World War Two. (Although that was Remington RAND, not necessarily the same people.) Even a Para Ordnance Expert single stack is around 500-560. But those might have slightly different barrel and ramp configs. Not bad, just different. edit: Add the Springfield to the list, they sell for around 560 to 700. edit again: drop the Armscor Rock Island from that list... had a co-worker get a real lemon on one...
  9. Agreed. They seem to hide in clusters for protection or avoidance of "drinking alone" syndrome.
  10. Yes. Half of all motorcycles sold are Harleys (in the USA). Both new and used. They just don't get ridden a lot. You don't see them on the roads very often.
  11. lol, yes but... which Confederate flag? Most of them represent Confederate Army and Naval units. Almost no one would recognize a true Confederate national flag... edit: ok, I bet more than a few citizens in the South would recognize...
  12. There's like 10,000 islands down there. Might find a better bargain! Don't forget most of these would have a couple of feet of water in a bad storm. Likely that most of the island would be under water during a bad storm. Unless the elevation above water is higher than maybe 3-4 feet. Here's one North of Tampa for $90,000 auction bid. Crow's Nest Island. Abandoned restaurant. http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/realestate/private-island-off-homosassa-could-be-yours-for-90000/2129071
  13. Hope this works as advertised. Never guess whether something is a bargain again. Just scan the bar code to check current prices for the item. From slickguns.com. I use one of these comparison apps frequently when shopping. Never would have guessed there would be one for guns and ammo. (And parts and pieces.) 14. My work insurance went up 50-60% in the last 3 or 4 years, and it's still the cheapest way to go. Bend over... edit: Actually, very glad I can get VA coverage. When I get to the minimum age to qualify. It's close to free. Can't beat that.
  15. true, but I haven't seen one yet.
  16. FBI is stepping into that investigation. Wonder if the local PD asked for it.
  17. I'll jump in here and say that it is easier to break the cover glass on a tablet, compared to a phone. (The screen is under the cover glass.) Tablets do not have the special hard glass. I have two Lenovo tablets, and I broke the screen on one with a tiny little drop, even if it was in a full cover case. I found a replacement glass in Singapore at a cheap price and repaired it myself. Don't look for Lenovos, they sell out too fast to find one. Very popular in China, some models have two phone sims over there for connectivity. Both phone sim slots are missing in the USA. (might be able to retro-engineer that.) I wanted the GPS, Lenovo has that. The concept of having the web, books, music, movies, AND a functional navigation map was perfect. When tethered to the phone in the Jeep, it's a nice big map. Run Waze on one, and whatever on the other. I'll vote for the Nexus 7 for an adult, but there are better bargains to be found for the kids.
  18. screw it... temps 10 to 15 below normal for next two weeks, and 5 to 10 below normal till December 1st. Only a couple of good days left, and probably will see salted roads rather soon. Putting the bike away... On the bright side, maybe we can get them out early in February or March..
  19. moi aussi also liked this one: $12.95 - field belt blade SOG® Field Pup Knife
  20. cheap used ammo can 30cal M19A1 - probably rust on the outside, usually no rust on the inside you probably won't beat this price - $7.99 & free shipping http://www.unclesamsretailoutlet.com/Ammo-Can-M19A1-8140008282938-p/144.htm
  21. Interesting until I saw it was a quote from http://www.chronicle.su/ edit: Also interesting... the SU internet suffix changed to RU. The SU is now a rogue address. ".SU, assigned to the then-Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.) in 1990, a year before its dissolution, is now a refuge for criminal hackers, according to the AP’s Raphael Satter." http://www.dailydot.com/technology/soviet-union-hackers-su/ Despite the fact that the Russian party Nashi, which is connected with the President and Prime Minister of the Russian Federation still uses it.
  22. Remember me saying even hitting a small bird hurts? I wouldn't want to hit a big one? No kidding when saying remember to duck quick. This guy hit a full size buzzard in the helmet. Florida Bird Blamed For Deadly Motorcycle Crash
  23. revised: I'll leaning toward that new BMW standard. Would be an interesting long haul bike.
  24. Starting in Las Vegas, to see how it works out. Five or six Harley models to start, maybe other brands later and other cities. Helmet provided, valid motorcycle endorsement and over age 25 required. About $161 per day, probably cheaper for longer rentals. http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/usa-enterprise-rent-a-car-to-enter-motorcycle-rentals.htm http://www.enterprise.com/car_rental/deeplinkmap.do?bid=056&dcpCode=MCYCLES https://news.google.com/news/rtc?ncl=db9K762wMyR5xqMwQUOJi8EY_aDUM&siidp=aa87a32589a9593ff9e2d91dc1904ea41184
