  1. recently released unclassified assessment of Syrian involvement in the gas attack: http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2013/08/world/syria-documents/index.html?hpt=po_c2 http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2013/08/30/text-of-u-s-assessment-on-syrias-use-of-chemical-weapons/ edit: UN team left. So did huge amounts of Syrian population. Short vacation out of country. Game is on, if it is on... edit: The real time ship tracking on line, well, all the "unknown" ships vanished. Either left the area or turned their transponders off. Saturday morning. Alternatively, there is a sudden increase in cargo and tanker traffic. Maybe spoofing that transponder. (Aircraft carriers have to pretend to be tankers, because of their size.)
  2. Rumor is that the Israelis had some one inside the Syrian unit that watches the units that handle the chemical weapons. I bet that person isn't there now. And that little bit of news probably vanished from the internet last night. Israelis say Friday night or Saturday morning. Others say waiting for the UN team, and the UN team needs four days. That would be Monday, maybe Sunday. But Britain thinks later in the week. Still don't think it's going to change much over there. But that's not the point.
  3. I've seen kickstands break, but the one I have now seems strong enough. I ran down a loading ramp and found out I'd have to jog back and forth for quite a while to turn. And the back wheel would have to shove back up the ramp as well. Oops. Dropped the side stand and turned 180 and out of there. I hold my foot against the kickstand, so it won't fold up on me and do something else.
  4. not ammo, upper and lower for $69.99 each Primary Arms Labor Day Sale sale ends 9/3 or when sold out Aero Precision Upper Aero Precision Lower gen II PMAG 30rd black $8.99 use coupon code PMAG2 edit: MSR MiniWorks water filter $59.99 @ REI
  5. Although most will do the job, many are quite easy to open check out this video and decide. DEFCON 19 Breaking into gun safes (small type like in a car)
  6. Back again. Seems serious. Currently watching real time ship movements on-line, in the Western Mediterranean. Military ships aren't labeled, but kinda obvious. Also obvious is when every one else moves away. Watching to see if mystery ships make a run in toward shore for a launch. Mostly want to see what range they like to launch from. Mostly looks like players are circling near the Northern shore of the Med. My guess would be out of all (effective) radar range, and sea skim to target below radar. And TOT. Time on target. (All at the same time.) Best guess is Sunday or Monday. Old model sea launched UGM-109 TLAM has a range of 1550 miles. Newer ones are 800 to 1000 miles. Expect targeting to be net-centric real time updated by satellite, UAV, and stealth recon (various types).
  7. who the heck eats at McDucks? vs Big Macs rock gotta have them. I can never decide. Don't eat there, but crave Big Macs. Sorta like Chinese food. Eat one and soon hungry again. Mostly air with some flavored water, like everything else at McDucks. Simple to tell how long it takes a person to digest (or not). Eat a big bowl of corn, and check for it. (It doesn't completely digest.) I average about 28 hours. Probably also why I'm eternally skinny.
  8. Semi convinced me to do a 1 1/2" belt. Combo paracord and adjustable webbing with quick disconnect buckle. Found the weave that will cut and quickly liberate a single cord. Kinda neat. Yeah, webbing doesn't cost all that much either. Nor does the web adjusters and buckles.
  9. Lowest bidder = rock bottom cheapest materials lack of accountability = nationwide epidemic
  10. Tire pressure can vary per the actual load on the bike. That's what the load rating is all about. The manufacturer's recommended tire pressures are for two passengers and luggage. Older motorcycles used to have separate pressures on the swing arm sticker, showing one rider or two. Apparently lawyers removed that. Typical, but not advised, is that pressures can be lowered, from the max, no more than 25% for a single rider (170-180 lb). But that will typically put the front tire near it's minimum pressure. No street tire ever made is rated to go below 26psi on the street. So work with it within a safe range. But be aware that the change of pressure will make the front or rear tire push or pull in corners. edit: The old one person stickers, did not typically lower the front tire pressure. It only lowered the rear tire pressure.
  11. I run a Bagster tank rig. A tank cover with a clip in tank bag. But the daily hauler is a tailbag on tail rack. Ventura luggage. There's a lot more vibration on the tail rack. I don't really like to put electronics or cameras there. Warning: neither setup is cheap. edit: Noticed Ventura makes a new rear seat bra with clip in seat bag. So the variety of seat bags are another option.
  12. That's funny. Rather true also.
  13. Lost control in a lane change. Fatal. RIP http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2013/08/24/columbus-fatal-motorcycle-crash.html http://www.nbc4i.com/story/23247420/motorcycle-loses-control-crashes-on-outerbelt
  14. still goofing around... Is this the ultimate motorcycle camping gear? http://motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/classic_bikes/goldwing_sidecar.JPG
  15. Thinking... could this all be quite smaller and more efficient? Wondering if a modern high-tech re-design would be interesting. looking for it... here it is: http://www.pssurvival.com/PS/Gasifiers/FEMA_Simplified_Wood_Gas_Generator-Mar_1989_With_Biomass_Energy_Foundation_2001.pdf edit: The Europeans are experimenting and have figured out how to turn 5kg of wood into one liter of a diesel like fuel. edit: any of these can be applied to an AC generator rig. edit: ok, the most modern design is a Keith Gasifier. Here's his websites: http://woodgas.wikispaces.com/Wayne+Keith http://driveonwood.com/ It's claimed to be 37% more efficient than ordinary gasoline.
  16. apocalyptic end of world motorcycle. Wood Gas - it was popular in WW2 when gas rationing and short supply forced alternatives. 50 mph isn't bad, and just carry an axe everywhere you go, to refuel. That's the gas generator on the back deck of the sidecar. Yup, it's a Ural mod in Russia. Russian motorcycle gets wood-power conversion

  18. Enough of the crap all around. It's time we changed our style of punishment. Apparently society does not appear to be serious about it.
  19. You can do it. Keep it simple to start. Make some money. Build it up. We used to make CNC sprockets when I was a kid. Got into welding up exhaust pipes and handle bars for fun. All sorts of things to do. I think I might start making some sort of parts in a couple of years. I hope so, it sounds like fun.
  20. bikes in India are fully made in USA and assembled in India? Wut? About the only parts made in the USA are the frame and the engine castings... Everything else is shipping in or out to Brazil for assembly. Add India to that list. Oddly, the Honda 919 was made in Italy. Assembled there.
  21. wise words, you will waste money and time if you don't think things through carefully.
  22. At least they checked the work instead of just letting you drive away to find it yourself.
  23. First day of semester start anyway. It was going to be slow with accidents in many places.
  24. btw, all you really need is either a hammock, or two tarps, poles, stakes, rope and a couple of army blankets.
  25. I combined motorcycle camping with backpack needs. Both light and small(short package). sleeping bag - considered: Mountain Hardwear Lamina 35 Mountain Hardware UltraLamina 32 North Face Dolomite Bx Suisse Sport Adventurer Mummy Bought the Mountain Hardwear Lamina 35 tent - considered: Eureka Timberline 2 Eureka BackCountry 1 Eureka BackCountry 2 Eureka Solitaire Eureka Spitfire 1 Eureka Spitfire 2 Bought the Eureka BackCountry 2, but it's out of production now. For one person comfort, going up to a two person tent is common. tent 2 - wanted smaller: bought a one person mil-spec Catoma Raider tent. Hard to find. Added mil-spec therm-a-rest prolite 4 sleeping pad Added an Exped air pillow Added trick compression sacks that squish these down to tiny proportions. (Not the sleeping mat, that didn't work.) With the sleeping mat, I rolled it in the largest compression sack, and squished everything into the center. Close to same result. Although could have just rolled and strapped the mat, it's kinda hard plastic stuff. Add a mini camp stove, folding shovel (you'll have to poop), water containers, etc.... Most all of the junk will fit in or on a mil-spec 3 day assault pack with a lot of exterior pouches and straps. And can be extended to two or three weeks if water isn't an issue. I'm pretty sure it all fits on a bike.
