  1. got it. Those were indeed cold tires. One of my biggest surprises was wet tires in the morning at 35-38 degrees. I think the turning tire created wind chill and froze. That's uber slippery when turning. It's wet at first, and suddenly freezes. Have to gently work the tire left and right till it's warmer. Otherwise laying it into the first corner of any type will slide out. One morning I turned the bike 180 degrees at the first slow speed turn. It happens fast, real fast. Stayed up though.
  2. The rain Friday after work was indeed more slippery than normal. Even with all due care, I whipped the rear wheel out at least twice. I was even up one gear to cut torque response. starting to wonder if RoadSmarts are all that smart...
  3. Try a polycarbonate shell helmet. That stuff is a lot tougher than fiberglass.
  4. If you've ever been in that area, the survellance is maxed out on the surrounding area. Not a good place for doing anything. Running from police, ramming the White House perimeter, fleeing at high speed when shot at, nothing good will happen. She's lucky they didn't fire a TOW missile from the top of one of the buildings...
  5. for fun, I just ran through one of the calculators. If you were living on social security only, a good one, about 18000 a year income. your health insurance is 775 a year, after federal rebates if you smoke tobacco, it's 380% higher cost no mention of any other pre-existing conditions edit: I did notice that the cost might be higher if anyone in your household uses tobacco
  6. probably fake, but it is true that the federal government will take whatever you have if you owe them anything at all. oh, and Forbes is showing that health care goes up for almost everyone. The average was something like 24%. Oddly, California isn't one of the worst. A couple of states went nuts and it's closer to 300%. (Nebraska and North Carolina) Not surprised, health insurance already went up about 60% for everyone in the last 3 or 4 years. Along with some other nasty changes to go with it. one more thing, so far it's showing extremely low numbers of people signing up. Even if it's really high numbers of people hitting the website. Also hearing one California new source claiming exactly zero people signed up in California. California did their own, and it's been available for quite a while. Mid Summer or something.
  7. Isn't it obvious? The next time you rob some one or hijack a car, if confronted, quickly drop and play dead. Lessons learned from real life, yeep, work everytime.
  8. There was a good Slate article also. Explaining this isn't a "gang". Not like the real biker gangs...
  9. dang, sorry I missed this... 300 rounds Winchester 22LR in a wooden box - $19.99 http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Ammunition/Rimfire-Ammunition|/pc/104792580/c/104691780/sc/104536080/Winchesterreg-22-LR-300-Pack-with-Limited-Edition-Oak-Box/1410112.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Frimfire-ammunition%2F_%2FN-1100192%2F&rid=11&WT.tsrc=AFF&WT.mc_id=cj3946285 edit: btw, this type box was made and sold back in 1996 also. I found the box selling in auction for 80 bucks.
  10. The president is responsible for all that happens, as a matter of honor. The population is responsible for all that happens, as a matter of principle. The politicians are responsible for all that happens, as a matter of willfullness. The media is responsible for all that happens, as a matter of ratings. The corporations are responsible for all that happens, as a matter of profit. Did I leave anything out?
  11. Range hasn't been used for a while. Navy wants to close the range and reclaim the land to build a US Marine base there.
  12. You're lucky you found any .25acp. Difficult to find. I found a casting mold for the tiny things, and was lucky to get that. Oddly, #3 buckshot will fit and load up... just one
  13. hmm, see if you can borrow a metal detector for giggles... see what you can find.
  14. Call it in. Give plate number and direction of travel. Primary characteristic (that patrols look for) of a drunk driver is either inability to maintain road speed, or inability to maintain the lane. Doing both is blind drunk or medical emergency. the old number was 1-800-GRABDUI the new number is #677 - Dialing this phone number on your cellular phone will connect you with the closest patrol post in the area in which you are traveling through, and will dispatch an Ohio State Trooper to render assistance.
  15. Sunday - Sep 30, 2013 Vance's has 22LR in stock. Bricks of 500. It wasn't advertised. It appears to be going fast. On a skid back by the pistol showcase. CCI 22LR 40gr standard velocity (blue box) brick of 500 $34.75 - 7 cents a round - limit of 2 American Eagle 38gr high velocity (red box) brick of 400? - $27.99? - 4.5 cents a round? - limit of one - Also, additional limit of either the two CCI or the one American Eagle. edit: The American Eagle is all that's left, and it's now 29.99. edit: btw, Vances has the Thompson Center Impact muzzleloader for 200 bucks in their flyer. That a steep discount.
  16. Cheap Cycle Parts or shipped direct from Honda warehouses. There are better places for Suzuki parts, but I don't own one. NewEnough which is now motorcyclegear.com, for discounted discontinued gear and clothing. Indy Super Bikes for sprockets and chains and power commander etc... edit: yeah, a lot of money gets spent at Iron Pony... I've gone in Honda shops for parts, but what I want is never in stock (919). And sometimes it's a rather simple part. Then I realize I can get it faster and often cheaper if I mail order it, even if it's from the Honda warehouse.
  17. TW Road Runner recently converted from Insight RoadRunner... it's faster now...
  18. lol.... iPuke Apple iOS 7 is sickening users, doctor confirms
  19. Maybe. I can find Danville/gas station with my eyes closed/brain disengaged. Breakfast at Pioneer in Utica... yum... hmmm, enough time to get to FinFeatherFur in Ashland and back, that morning before (back roads). Sunrise departure to do that. That would be 350 miles combined... interesting...
  20. Here's the source of the data analysis: http://www.mailman.columbia.edu/news/drugs-and-driving-fatal-mix And the original goverment survey data: http://www.nhtsa.gov/Driving+Safety/Research+&+Evaluation/2007+National+Roadside+Survey+of+Alcohol+and+Drug+Use+by+Drivers (pdf)2007 National Roadside Survey of Alcohol and Drug Use by Drivers The NHTSA spend 4 million on research for "drug impaired driving" in 2013. (Budget) Out of 150 million used for research and development. Contrasted to an estimate of 50 billion per year in resultant costs and damages of crashes and injuries.
  21. Do you remember what brand/type the 9mm was? Just curious... n/m, looked it up. Herters, their house brand. Aluminum cases and nylon coated bullets.
  22. I mean think about it. It says one in 7 drivers has drugs in their system, and one in 10 has alcohol.
  23. This is why motorcycles ride sober. And one reason why the roadways are dangerous for us. Drugged Driving Plays Major Role in Traffic Deaths Also: http://www.scienceworldreport.com/articles/9771/20130927/scientists-discover-drug-positive-drivers-triple-risk-fatal-car-crashes.htm http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2013/09/27/Drugged-drivers-have-increased-risk-of-automobile-crashes/UPI-36371380325431/?spt=hs∨=hn
  24. Midway USA -Winchester USA Ammunition 380 ACP 95 Grain Full Metal Jacket $176.00 for the 500 brick - $192.00 with the shipping That's 38.4 cents a round after shipping.- that's not bad for Winchester - Wolf runs about that price before shipping. I would, but I picked up a 250 brick of Remington UMC from Cabela's even cheaper. It's gone, don't bother looking. Cabela's is showing 9mm Winchester for $15.99/50 online. Appears no limit (I tried 5 boxes to see.). 32 cents per round. No 380 available. I ship ammo to store and pick it up. No shipping. Palmetto State Armory has CCI Blazer brass 9mm for $120.00/350 in plastic ammo can. $131.00 with shipping. That's 37.4 cents per round after shipping. No 380 available. edit: Palmetto also has 1000 round box of Federal American Eagle 223 for $399.00. 40 cents a round. Also 100 brick of same for $43.00. 43 cents a round. Cabelas has it for 8.99/20. 45 cents per round. Prices on 223 dropped for a while, but appear to have jumped back up a little. The last time I was up at FFF, the CCI blazer brass was the cheapest brass case ammo I saw.
  25. People and hydroplaning always amaze me. I don't have to slow down when it's raining. (Disregard the treadless tires.) Ack! I'm hydroplaning! I think I'll do something totally arbitrary against the laws of physics! ARGGGHHH! I never took physics! crunch toss in lack of common sense
