  1. About $1,300 less than a strom. ($6,999 MSRP) However, the strom is a more capable bike - probably. When gas goes to $5, I bet they'll sell a ton of these with DCT.
  2. Anybody seen this? Looks like a great all-rounder: NC 700X: 670cc, 6" suspension travel, 65 mpg, only 51 HP but 44 lb./ft. torque (4,750 rpm) Upright seat, makes power down low. Will be available in DCT/ABS. http://powersports.honda.com/2012/nc700x.aspx
  3. Sweet looking bike. I took my first license test on a Nighthawk. Good bikes.
  4. If each track sold for $.35 and a movie could be downloaded for $2(to keep forever), there would be almost no piracy. iTunes already busted the music industry for billions. Legally, with no conspiracy necessary. (Wait - didn't the iPod intro and Steve Jobs cancer happen about the same time? Coincidence? I think not!) my $.02 Otherwise - another fun OR thread. L'dMAO. Now I'm off to get a paper towel to clean the spittle off the monitor.
  5. Very nice. I'll have to remember to do that if I let the viffer go. Nice garage too dude!
  6. I did the upgrade last night on the iPad. Like okay so far. Tabbed browsing in Safari is nice. But, like Hoblick, don't see much difference. Won't be an iCloud user for a while but it looks promising. Me wonders if that will have application with the upcoming iTV? Edit: took three tries yesterday to get the upgrade to work. The day before, I managed to get iTunes updated but iOS5 bombed twice and had projected download times in excess of 20 hours.
  7. Fun thread. The best are the folks in their yard or getting their mail that wave as I go by. Catches a city boy like me by surprise at first. Now, when I'm on the back roads, I wave when I see anyone look around when I go by.
  8. This has happened there before. Orangemen and other problem children.
  9. It is good to see stuff like this. The good things don't get as much "press". BTW, which oil is best?
  10. Yeah, but that's if they accept the cash. (Can't read the bill since I'm on the iPad at the moment.). States have fallen into that trap once already. Take federal money just to have to make cuts the next year. Anyway, the private economy is still in the crapper. There is so much liquidity out there it's unbelievable. Rates at historical lows, so debt capital is cheap. And still no job creation. It's the hangover from the debt binge. Sorry. But that'll take some tome to work off. Take two alka seltzer and check back in 2020. There are other problems - education and health care mainly - that could use some reform to help on the cost side. Obama correctly brought some pressure to bear on one of those, but his tweed-jacket wearing academic friends are still keeping us in the dark ages on the education front.
  11. Job creation actions from where? Why is it automatically ass-umed that the gov has any ability to create jobs. The Feds did all they could to create a debt-fueled consumer spending orgy. Now we're in the midst of a huge collective balance sheet tidying up on a personal level while the gov't does the opposite. Look for a decade of no growth (if we're lucky) and continued spasms of fiscal emergency.
  12. My brother-in-law and I are starting the research on riding the AlCan next year. He lives in Chicago, turns 50 next year and is currently bikeless. My thought was we fly into Canada, rent bikes and ride it, then fly home. But I've never done this. Anybody done a fly and ride before?
  13. The 650. Good standard-style bike with farings. But make sure you're not setting yourself up for another switch too soon. If your very proficient, think about the kind of riding you like, the kind of bike that's best suited long-term for that purpose, and go for the end game. If that bike is more than you're used to, just take it easy for a year until you get comfy.
  14. Great thread. I'd almost forgotten what junior high was like.
  15. A 250 is too small and I don't consider thumpers to be standards. Good call on the Versys. The Kawi 650 twins are great deals. The Ninja 650R was almost what I bought instead of the VFR. Pretty widely owned bike too since I see lots of them around and there are at least two forums that follow them and lots of A/M parts.
  16. I agree. But most of those won't see a lot of gravel. If you want a reasonably priced standard under 1000cc, there doesn't seem to be a lot to choose from - the strom or an FZ8. Maybe the Bonneville.
  17. In if it's the 8th. Got family in town on the first.
  18. Something about the VFR attracts the more discerning (sometimes that means older) rider.
  19. DAC

    Senate Bill 5

That sounds like a zero sum game. Maybe they're right. Gov't revenues are not going up much. Period. So if the average cost per employee is higher, you just have fewer of them. If it's lower, more public workers get to have or keep their job. In the end, pretty basic equation.
  20. I'd probably go the Road Glide route. Also fun would be a Bonnie. But that's more of a standard.
  21. So . . . What kind of cruiser does a VFR rider buy?
  22. I'd kinda like to vote for an adult for president next time. Anybody see one actually running for that office, lemme know.
