  1. No. ALDI only accepts debit cards as of now. The interchange is much lower for that at grocery outlets. Something less than .5%. But what if you could buy a TV and pay $20 or $40 less for it? Would you do it? I sure as hell would. I believe the thrust of ruling allows discrimination against card. If the final verdict is to allow discounts for cash, that would be good - don't you think?
  2. Merchants are just passing along the cost of being ass raped by the banks. If a bank extends you credit, that's between you and the bank. Why does the merchant need to build that into their cost? What happens today is the merchants have to pay 1-4%, depending on the type of card, for what is essentially an electronic transaction that costs pennies to execute. On top of that, the banks use cash back and other incentives to cause consumers to use the card even more. The poor people who can't get a card or don't use one also get screwed because the merchants build the card costs into their retail prices. It's like splitting a dinner check evenly and paying for someone else's beer and dessert.
  3. I didn't pay $70 and wouldn't pay $170. I don't have the Big Ten Network (for a league with 12 teams, one "R" bites the dust). So, it's sort of "academic" to me. I graduated from OSU and got a good education, so I'm not down on the institution. But if you want to see actual amateur sports, go watch a high school game. About as close as you can get.
  4. I'd say this is something of an unusual condition. There is no viable commercial alternative. So, they basically play for free hoping they survive long enough for a shot at the NFL SuperLotto.
  5. Viffer pilots may have seen this on the VFRD or VFRW boards, but this is a pretty good deal. OEM Honda hard bags for $416 shipped! These things retail for something like $1,100. The US site is: http://www.davidsilverspares.com/ If you want other Honda parts, they may have 'em but the inventory seems kinda hit & miss.
  6. Yeah, funny you mention that. My dad used to visit a coffee shop here in C-bus where there were usually a lot of LEOs. He could hear the calls coming in over the radio and the officers would hang out a bit until answering. Once the old guy finally asked, "Shouldn't you answer that?" They told my dad they were waiting for the situation to "mature" or something. He couldn't remember the actual word, but it was something like that. Certainly not all LEOs are like that, and it's a rough job, but these guys seemed to have timed it so about six cruisers show well after the event and several minutes before the media arrive.
  7. The criminal element possesses many illegal items and does many illegal things. That's why we call them criminals. Ever wonder why you can't move more than $10,000 in cash without filling out some forms? (If you're lucky enough to be able to round up $10k, that is.) It's the "arms" and "people" that are the cogent parts of the text here. Current activities are centered around defining arms, my point is "people" should include police and other similar bodies. You're point about criminal oppression will no doubt be brought up by the police if the idea above is ever proposed. "We will be at a disadvantage," will be their take. The response is, "So, why should you be any better prepared for those threats than WE are?"
  8. I don't know why this is so difficult. Just apply any weapons bans that apply to the general public to the police and other forces operating domestically. The general principle would be that anyone charged with keeping the peace must do so with the same means available to the general populace. This keeps the protectors and defenders from becoming the oppressors, which seems to be the general worry.

    Who Rode Today

I washed filthy cars and pulled down Christmas lights. The viffer stayed under covers and charging.
  10. You thought their food was good? Haven't eaten there in a while - maybe it improved. As far as I knew, it was a wing & beer joint. Whatever. For my part, lots of booze consumed plus guns around makes for another reason to eat at home.
  11. Exactly. Probably take the bike out just to work it out a little and some light maintenance. Then back on the battery tender it goes.
  12. The greatest generation laughs at you because you played with Ken. J/K - I couldn't resist.
  13. So sorry to hear. Condolences and prayers for you and the family and the child.
  14. Been with HNB 25 years. They almost lost me once but they fixed it. I also like credit unions but ATMs can be hassle. Some have networked it so that can be fixed as well. If you need access to ATMs and brances, HNB is good in this area.
  15. Just means that people who don't want to be in a union or fund their political spending have some options. I am not, however, naive enough to believe that this isn't also Republicans trying to weaken a political enemy. Unions of all kinds need to take a page from the banks. Ever wonder why JP Morgan still gets to be a $2 Trillion bank? What happened to "too big to fail?" Oh wait. Yeah. Jamie Dimon is a huge Democrat supporter! Show some love, and some money, to the GOP and this all goes away. Get it?
  16. When the NC700X show up on the used market in quantity, they will most likely be the best value around. On the 750cc question, the CB1100 offered as a 750 would be awesome if they could bring the weight down to something proportionate.
  17. Probly didn't suck as hard as your love - Freddie Mercury.

    2013 Honda

I'm hoping one of those CB1100s will follow me home some day soon. I like my viffer, but that UJM is what I was always after.
  19. Wow - cool paint on the vif there Doc! To the OP - the VFR is a good all around bike but there's lots of choices. Take your time - you've got all winter now.
  20. Whole thing sounds made up. Probably a flooded out, salvage title bike they blew up.
  21. "Next, on the wife's demand, we'll wrap some det cord around his testicles and . . . "
