  1. You have a legal right to refuse to go through the body scanner machines. Of course, by exercising this right you are guaranteeing you're going to get patted down, but in the face of 2 unpleasant decisions I'd take the one that doesn't have me eating radiation.
  2. Ah, Mississippi. State motto for corruption: "Hey, at least we aren't Louisiana!"
  3. Pretty sure I have P90X on some burned CD's at the house, and the written materials on Excel spreadsheets running around here. I'd be happy to lend them out for as long as you want, I haven't used them.
  4. If you've got room for one more I'll join. GF can't make it, she'll be going to a concert that weekend. I have a room to myself at the Clarion if anyone wants to bunk up and split it.
  5. I'll put 50/1 odds that no one in senior management goes to jail. 3/1 that no one goes to jail at all. Video's blocked at work, have to get details later.
  6. The mercury kinda chaffed my ass as well. I also wasn't thrilled about the "warm up time" either. LED's at $20-30 a bulb are too goddamn expensive and the light doesn't diffuse well.
  7. This just in: Some people are stupid with money, and just have to be the first to have the latest shiny thing before anyone else, no matter how much it costs. This is why I laugh when I read about someone whining about having 50K of credit card debt spread over 9 cards with nothing to show for it but a house full of devalued shit they don't need.
  8. Soon. Need to crawl before I can walk.
  9. Coffee Shop Visits - meh, sometimes I get the itch. Not a usual habit, once a month. Incandescent Light Bulbs - LED/CFL's don't work with the dimmers I use. Disposable Water Bottles - yep. Baggage Fees - I lose my Delta Elite status in February. Fuck. Subscriptions You Don't Use - Don't subscribe to anything, so yep. Baby Food - no kids, so yep. Credit Score Fees - creditkarma.com. yep. Cable - Stopped paying for cable last year, built a PC for the living room instead. Major fucking yep. Landline Phones - yep. Cleaning Supplies - seriously? Whipping up your own laundry detergent is a little excessive. ATM Fees - USAA/Schwab/Internet banking/credit union. If you're still paying for these, you're an idiot. HDMI cable

No worries at all. I bought a bunch from Monoprice a few years back, and when I rewired after I ditched my cable service I didn't need a few of them so they've just been in a drawer.
  11. Screw paying my mortgage, I need lots of guns with lots and lots of tactical accessories. This is another harbinger of the insect apocalypse. Nevermind insects controlling other insects, now you have FUNGUS. Pardon me, I'll be off trying to weaponize Round-up.
  12. Fuck those old people, I got this shit. for fuck's sake, don't go to Wheeling. That place is a serious shithole. If you want to go to a Vegas-esque place and don't mind a longer drive, go to the Four Winds in New Buffalo, MI. The only drawback is it's going to take you about 5 hours to get there. Nicest place I've been to outside of the Vegas Strip casinos. If you're feeling squirrely and have a passport, Windsor, Ontario is about 4 hours away.

    HDMI cable

You need one? I'm up to my ass in HDMI cables at the house. I'll gladly give one or two up.
  14. Correct. No ex post facto laws, clause 3 of Article I, section 9 of the U.S. Constitution and the states are prohibited from the same by clause 1 of Article I, section 10. I'll be damned if the anti-gun lobby and the religious lobby don't keep trying, though. The rest of your post was very well done.
  15. Don't see how. Your actions were illegal at the time. No angle, just curiosity. Jst2fst clearly wanted to go to NY, but since he can't carry his firearm around he is avoiding it. I wanted to know what that tipping point was from unarmed "hey, I kinda want to go there" to armed "no fuckin way".
  16. Trust me, I shall. I can only hope that logic, reason, and tolerance win out over faith, dogma, and fear.
  17. As I covered before and you weren't listening; To commit a sin and ask forgiveness is not the problem. the problem is when you expect that you can just ignore that what you do on a daily basis is a sin and that God must accept your sin with no effort on your part to turn away from sin.I actually like it when a gay person tells me that they are Christian because I know how their life will end up... generally speaking. I've known several gay people over the years. You may be surprised, my best friend of several years spent many of those years as a lesbian. Our topic of Social conservative values has kind of drifted into a religious debate of my personal beliefs. It seems I am just repeating myself and as usual in a conversation with folks who have already made up their mind, you guys seem willing to jump thru any amount of hoops to keep from seeing or at least acknowledging my point. Thats ok, I expect it. But I'm not going to keep banging my head against the wall. I think what I have already written is sufficient enough for folks who may read it with an open mind to understand my point of view which has been my only motivation for participating this thread even as it drifted. I knew going in, given that you started it, that the intent was an argumentative one rather than the informational request it was hidden behind. I don't know whether either of you guys have any belief in a higher power at all. I have lived long enough to watch people go from where you are to where I am as far beliefs. The closer you get to your own mortality, the more one tends to view things with an open mind. I wish you both a long life. I say that with only good intent, please don't confuse it with sarcasm. Thanks for keeping it reasonably civil. That's unusual in the political section of this forum. I don't believe it has drifted that much. The thought processes you have are the same processes that I've seen on almost everyone I've spoken to that claims to be a "social conservative". Sure, we've crystallized things down to a solitary issue, but it's still an issue that SC's claim as very near and dear to their hearts.
  18. Creating a law that allowed same-sex marriage and placed said union in tax-exempt status would be discriminating against other groups. Allowing same-sex marriages would merely be giving the same rights that 90% of Americans enjoy to the 10% that don't. Kinda similar to civil rights, giving the same rights to 30% of Americans that 70% already enjoyed. Also similar to slavery, giving freedom to the 20%, you get my point. Your argument was used in all these examples. It was backwards then and it's backwards now. You mean straight people and gay people? Everyone, except gay people you mean. Would they by considered 3/5's of a person? North Congregational United Church of Christ. I find it amusing that you accuse me of not understanding Christianity yet you don't understand that Christianity itself is an umbrella with a ton of sects underneath it. Just like Islam has Shiite, Sunni, Sufi, and sub-sects of each. Bring forth the strawman. I'm not going to comment on the adult/minor sex legalization because there's no details to comment on. What I will comment on is the word "family". What's the divorce rate in the US? 2-time? 3-time? Broken families, state custody? Gay parents have to jump through hoops to have a child, either by IVF, adoption, etc. They have to WANT to be parents. Straight people pop out kids all the time that are unwanted and unloved. "Family" is a completely subjective term, as is "love" and "marriage". I have not a fuck to give what your personal sect of Christianity defines marriage as, I give a fuck that there are two people who want to be with each other for the rest of their lives, and in doing so want to enjoy the rights and privileges available to straight married couples, like being able to share medical information as partners, spousal medical insurance, married tax status, end-of-life planning, next-of-kin, stuff like that. I'll leave you with this: You are correct in your statement that the US government defines marriage as a man and a woman, as cited in DOMA, passed in 1996. However, this is discriminatory and unconstitutional by definition. In 1883, Pace v. Alabama upheld a Alabama statute passed after the Civil War that made interracial marriage and sex a felony, punishable by 2-7 years of jail time. Anyone attempting to officiate said marriages could be fined up to one thousand dollars and could be imprisoned for up to six months. In 1967, Loving v. Virginia overturned Pace on Constitutional grounds, citing the Due Process clause and Equal Protection clause. I've linked the Wiki entries for both cases below, I suggest you give them a read. Pace v. Alabama Loving v. Virginia You, my friend, are on the wrong side of history.
  19. I have a question. At what point in your adult life did you suddenly come to the conclusion that it is imperative to be armed at all times, in all places? Like yesterday you were just fine being in a given place unarmed, but today the thought of returning to those places without a firearm is now out of the question?
  20. Actually, it's Article IV, Section 1. Full Faith and Credit Clause, for those too lazy to look it up.
  21. What makes his views all the more head-scratching is the fact that his wife HAD an abortion. Afterwards he embarked on a campaign to outlaw the procedure that his wife JUST had done. The platform of "I got mine! Fuck you!". Sadly, that seems to be bipartisan.
  22. Everyone's sick of the two-party system but no one's doing anything to get around it. It Paul was really that hardcore for Conservative change, he'd break off and go it alone. He won't, because he won't have access to the debates, the media, the fundraising machines, none of that. I've read with great interest the things that Santorum froths, and I don't see it being any different than the majority of the "social conservatives" I've come across. He's a theocrat, plain and simple.
  23. Well, decided to give it a go sans hydrometer. Followed the instructions on the Mr. Beer pamphlet and it's now sitting in my closet fermenting away. I totally forgot to check the wort temp before I pitched the yeast, I think it was good but I'll give it a look tonight and see how it's progressing. Worst case there's a local homebrew shop in Clintonville I can get good yeast from. Just a few notes for everyone else with a kit: The instructions say to sanitize the keg, swish around, then put the tools inside the keg to soak for 10 minutes minimum. Make sure that none of the tools (like the can opener) will start to rust after a soak. I think it was OK, but still not the best situation. The bowl that the instructions reference needs to be big enough to hold the spoon/whisk and anything else you have. Bonus points if you're able to submerge the tools in the pool. I just dumped out the sanitized water from the keg directly into the bowl when I was done soaking. A whisk works the best for breaking up the booster when you add it to the water. Just keep a circulation going with the whisk and add the booster slowly, it'll take care of itself. Beat it around a little to break up any chunks that you missed, it'll all dissolve. Make sure the water for soaking the canned extract is HOT. This stuff gets very viscous, VERY quickly. Next time around I'm going to add a silicone spatula to the tools so I can get all the stuff out of the can and the pot when I transfer. Once you have the wort in the pot and you're ready to transfer to the keg, DON'T SPILL IT. It gets retardedly sticky, and cleaning up the mess is a huge pain in the ass. Make sure you have the 4qt of COLD water to absorb the thermal shock from the wort. When I am ready to put my big boy pants on and get a proper brew kit, a wort chiller will definitely be in my future. Waited the 5 minutes then pitched the yeast. I wasn't sure what the 5 minutes were for, I figured out now that it was to allow the wort to cool further so I should have waited a little longer just to be sure. Put that shit away and have a beer!
