Color Sanding and repolishing an entire car? Where?
AudiOn19s replied to Diamonds's topic in Passing Lane
awwweeee...want to hug it out? After seeing it I don't think he's totally out of line, it's his job to try to sell you a bunch of stuff and most of those places do a pretty good job of spot fixes. -
Color Sanding and repolishing an entire car? Where?
AudiOn19s replied to Diamonds's topic in Passing Lane
Colorsanding = Wetsanding. Color sanding was an old term used with single staged paint where you were literally sanding the color layer. On clear coated cars you only want to sand the clear so the term didn't really fit anymore. If you get to the color layer you've gone through the clear and your screwed Call me, you can come over one night and we'll dick with the trunk lid over a smoke and see if you like the results before you look for someone to airbrush it for you. -
Color Sanding and repolishing an entire car? Where?

My sources tell me yes. I don't airbrush though just standard touch up. A lot of those trunk scratches will come out if we sand the trunk but not all of them. Andy -
So, my other worry in this is that I'm on the hook for maintenance too. I'm somewhat scared of high mileage cars as a result. (Yes this is coming from someone who drives a 200k mile car as a daily driver...I can't fix her car in florida when it breaks though). I guess that's why I was looking at the stuff I was looking at because it seems you can buy like a '07 Rio with < 100k miles on it in that price range through the sale. If we go any higher money wise I'd have to finance something for her...and if I'm goign that route I'll go buy a base model Haundai Accent for $12,500 knowing it gets me a brand new car that costs me very little if nothing in the way of maintenance in the short term as everything is new and the car has warranty coverage. Hell maybe I can even find left over 2011's now that the '12's are coming out and get an even better deal? I'm no good at shopping for cars that I'm not passionate about, no fun at all.

Me too, been searchign the auciton listings trying to come up with something.

As title states, looking for suggestions for the most reliable transportation that you can buy for 5k. Have to buy something for my mother-in-law and don't even know where to start. I have access to buy wholesale to make the money go further. Thinking maybe the newest Kia, haundai or Suzuki I can find??? Only requirement is cheap, economical and reliable. Andy

Don't run hoosiers if you've never been on a road course before. I went my first two seasons of tracking on street tires (18-20 total days), Sticky tires will just mask driver error until it's too late for you to know what you're doing wrong...then when they let go you'll go off as there's very little warning. Street tires progressively let go and talk to you when you're at the limits of adhesion.. You need to learn to overhwelm the street tires first, sliding the car around and learning exactly how it acts near, at and over it's limits before you even think about stepping up to a stickier tire. Not to mention that hoosiers on a car that's not properly setup to run them (stock suspension) will cord probably within a single day if driven hard enough. Andy

Weather is looking to be pretty awesome, sadly I won't be able to make it. Enjoy Gents.

Me neither, He kept reading reviews on-line of how people loved them and decided he wanted them even after you told him they were not for his car. His loss will be someone's gain though. He's accepted that.

**Posting for a good friend of mine** Contact Jeremy @ 614-835-6005 or jriga@me.com 235/40/18 Continental Extreme Contact DW - 8 days old now, and as of 6/7/11 had 131 miles on them. They're good tires, the sidewalls are just too soft for a car of the S4's weight and Tire Rack has a no-return-once-they're-mounted policy. Full road hazard warranty from Continental, receipt from Tire Rack included. They're listed as a 'Best Seller' and were rated HIGHER than the Michelin PS2s were. Paid $696 + $55 shipping, so $751 total. Will take $550 OBO for local sale I'll have them off the car by this Friday and I anticipate they'll have 200-220 total miles by that time. First: nice brakes You talking fender to tire rub, or you're worried about bottoming out? If you have offset, tire size issues and you rub in hard turns on the street then yes you will rub, if you're just rubbing on the street when you hit aweful expansion joints then I think you'll be ok. If you're talking ground clearance the track isn't THAT bumpy. I've taken many many lowered cars around Nelson and never had ground clearance problems. My 996 had no issues and it was pretty darn low. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/Picture007.jpg Andy

German car help: Suspension noise after Coilovers
AudiOn19s replied to Aaron's topic in Tech and Tips
I thought along the same lines but I don't think there's a separate pre-load adjustment on Bilstein coilovers, preload is a product of height and there's no separate adjustment. My H&R coilovers on the 996 did the same thing. Springs made noise when turning on the perches, really wasn't much I could do about it other than spray some greas up in there to try to make a little less friction. You can purchase really thin needle bearing plates to place on the top and bottom spring perches if it REALLY annoys you, I just learned to live with it. Only really noticed it at slow speed so I didn't care. Andy -
First, try to dedicate your pads to a single product, some products like Waxes and Sealants are very difficult to completely get out of the pads, other products like polishes wash out pretty easily. IF I'm in a hurry spray with an all purpose cleaner and some dish soap spray out with a hose. If I'm not in a hurry I wash my pads in the washing machine. Just let them air dry or spin them dry on the buffer as the heat from a dryer will generally screw up the glue for the velcro. Andy

Free Bump, neat car. I had the pleasure of working on this car in the past and it's evident that it's well cared for. Andy

Detailed this over the weekend. I should have moved it outside for some real pictures however I was sweaty and smelly and didn't want to even get near the interior since it was spotless. I love these things though and it was fun to work on. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=22&pictureid=5139 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=22&pictureid=5137 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=22&pictureid=5136 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=22&pictureid=5138 Andy

Looking good Tim!

Auto assets has it, as does PAP / Truechoice. They're all In the same building so your odds are pretty strong there. You should try Motul 600 cause I use it in my car and it's super fast

-Canon XS -18-55 "kit" -50mm 1.8 prime -55-250 -EX 430II external flash I'd like to pick up a nice wide angle and ditch the kit lense and go for something a little nicer in a similar focal range as it's what I wind up using the most. My bigges issue with being serious about photography is I really put in some time and effort when I started putting together my gear, and got some really great photos, but for me I don't often have the time or effort to get that shot every time and I'm not good enough yet to get the shots I want if I'm in a hurry.

Solidly equipped and well prepped. Those power numbers are impressive. Almost makes me feel bad that all I do is bleed the brakes, change fluid in diff and tranny and swap pads for my track days! I feel under-prepared. P.S. I'm still very interested and have no problems insturcting, but my wife is heading out of town on a business trip on the 12th and I need to make sure we've got arrangements for her to get to the airport before I 100% commit. You've got PM. The auction on 6/6 is a closed sale though, I don't think my resource has access to that sale. Andy
