  1. I am planing on a LONG (500+ miles) ride on Wednesday. The weather is looking perfect. So far it's a solo ride, but if anyone wants to meet, I will be in Bolivar around 8:30 am. The route will be WV and SE OH.

The pace will be brisk, the stops will be short, & the roads will be twisty.

  2. Skrew and I trailered to Bolivar once 5 or 6 years ago. Honestly, it was more of a PITA than anything. If you can't handle the ride to Bolivar, you prolly aren't going to dig the 300-400 mile loop through SE OH anyway.

  3. It was quite a turnout. We left Bolivar with 10 bikes split into a fast group & slow group. We rode a moderate pace to Barnesville where we picked up 6-8 more and 2 more after that. We wound up with 3 or 4 groups. Most continued to Hannibal where we regrouped at a gas station & plotted our courses home. I logged a little over 400 miles for the day.

I wasn't in the group with the get off, but there are a couple tricky turns on 536, including a 15mph right hander. Many 15 mph turns you can take 2-3 times the posted speed, but this one is really a 15mph turn. It's a decreasing radius that closes up after you're committed... http://www.ohio-riders.net/showthread.php?t=28843

  4. Ok.. for anybody that wants to meet up for the CORE ride to WV.. here are the nuts and bolts of it...

Seeing 400 miles on this ride' date=' driveway to driveway, is not out of the realm of possibility. Actually, it's quite probable. The pace is going to be 'brisk' so eat a hearty breakfast. You should also bring water, snacks and aspirin with you. Cash is important, as well. If we end up in BFE and the only gas station in town doesn't take VISA you're going to feel awfully foolish.

The first stop is B-ville.. 65 miles south on 800. This is where our southern riders will join us. From there we head to Hannibal.. 45 miles south via a series of roads best described as 'adequately twisted'.. if you can keep your head while riding roads that like to switchback and raise and drop elevation then you should be fine. Stephanie will be waiting for us here.

In Hannibal we will stop for food at the local SubWay on the river. After a SHORT lunch break we will head into WV via the nastiest roads we can find. Steph should prove rather useful at this time. (lulz)

Gear is not questionable.. if you show up in jeans and a hoodie you will be politely asked to ride with yourself. This is not to pass judgment or to belittle anybody.. it is for safety. Not so much yours but the groups.. if you aren't smart enough to wear at least a helmet, jeans, jacket, boots and gloves then you probably aren't smart enough to know your limits. Leathers are recommended but not required. (textile suits with armor are also recommended) If you don't like the gear stipulations.. kindly jog on. It's our ride.. find your own if you want to make drama.

Maps... bring a map. If you don't own a map then go buy a map. We don't 'parade' ride. Every rider rides their own ride. If that means you spend a few miles riding by yourself.. then that's what it means. Nobody gets left behind and the faster riders (not me) will be waiting for us at the next turn off. If you think you've lost the group.. keep riding. You just aren't there, yet.

That said.. I have a map of the route and will forward it to anybody interested in riding with us. I hope to see some new faces and meet some new riders. If you aren't sure if this ride is for you come by and meet up with us and see what you think. If you head down the road and it isn't your thing you can always peel off and head your own way. Just be sure to let someone in the group know so we aren't trying to figure out what ditch you're lying in.[/quote']

    Well stated.

  5. UP,

536 is a fun road , but can definitely result in a scratched bikes. The turn in your 3rd and 4th post is a decreasing radius 15mph (going south) that has claimed many bikes.

It's nice to see someone else on this board who isn't put off by 400-500 miles of twisties in a day. Perhaps we can get together for a ride this summer...

  6. Hey tpoppa buddy!

How u been man! Would love to may have family function. Might come for couple hrs miss you kewl core peeps!

You get a new ride yet?

There have been several new rides...for now 05 XB9SX & 05 CBR600F4i. If not this weekend maybe next.

  7. i will pass

If NEO'ers want to hit the really good stuff in SE OH, it's a long day but well worth it. We do it 10-12 times a year. Typically, I am on the road before 8a, home before 5p. We keep the pace brisk & the stops short. Depending on the route it's usually around a 450 mile day.

I may do a SE OH loop this Friday and for sure on Sunday.

  8. 536 is definitely a fun ride & one of the most technical roads in or near OH. There are a couple turns that have claimed more than a few bikes. I suggest taking it easy the first time you ride it...you'll see why.

  9. 26 looks like a heck of a road as well. How is that one, anyone know?

When the pavement is in decent shape 26 out of Marietta is very good, unfortunately it hasn't been is good shape in years (haven't ridden it yet this year). The part north of Woodsfield is always awful.

  10. There are a few decreasing radius turns on 536 that are notorious for eating bikes. I've seen several bikes down and some unintentional off-roading. It's a fun route, but better to take it EASY the first few times you ride it.

I'll be heading that way on Saturday.

  11. steels corners road. 929, xb9r and r6. guess which bike ran out of steam going up the road from akron penninsula rd. I'll give you one guess. I always liked the Buells until I saw that.

A Buell with a Jardine pipe & and an ECM that isn't mapped for it. Not suprising.

An SV is not as fast as an XB9 or XB12. Even so, straight line speed isn't the XB's strength. If your buddy can't corner an XB, that says more about him than the bike.
