  1. I'm not real familiar with new passcar regs, but commercial vehicles just went through their new emissions Tier requirements for 2010. Adds about $10k extra per truck than old emissions.

If there are regs for 2014, then it's because they new MANY MANY years to implement and test the emissions systems necessary to meet the regs and keep costs down. You have to phase in everything or you'd crash the supply chain.

It's those damn 4 year plans. That's all the farther anyone can plan forward in the future anymore. Two years ago, we were flooded with plans ending in 2012. Which was amusing, since the world tries, once again, per hysteria, to end that year.
i get the "phasing in" i just thought there might be some political undercurrent to it, like since it gives everyone involved a shot at reelection before anyone finds out if the new laws start to suck.

Pretty much all of the above.

OBD2 was REQUIRED in 1996, however the laws governing it were the clean air act (ammendmants) of 1990 and some of the changes to transistion to it started showing up around 1993-1994.

Here's some info pertaining to the EPA's clean air act as it applies to moving sources (cars, trucks, motorcycles, airplanes, etc....)

    Clean Air Act

Why the EPA website sends to Cornell's website is beyond me.... :dunno:

  2. one year replacement and they claim they are the best? LOL

shit ac delco batteries are 5 and 7 year replacement.

Um, I'm willing to bet that the "replacement" on them is FREE for the first year or maybe 2, then it's pro-rated from there on out.

  3. If you can't wave and someone waves at you, proper etiquette dictates that because you're on a Japanese sportbike, you have to hold in the clutch and twist the throttle, bouncing your bike off the rev limiter for no less than 5 full seconds if at a stop, or 3 full seconds if moving. If moving you're also obliged to pop a wheelie after the 3 seconds are complete.

Only if you ride a Squidsooki, like JRMMiii!!:rulez:

  4. if your hands are occupied, head nod ftw.

:D i would assume that if you're on a motorcycle waving to another motorcyclist you either:

    a. realize their hands are busy, bc you, too, use a clutch

    b. don't care bc waving to strangers doesn't matter

    or

    c. are a huge douche who cares that you didn't get waved back to.

    Nice one MJ!

  5. Ok, time for an update, I guess.

I got the valve switched out, bought a gasket kit from partsnmore.net, installed that head and went about putting it all back together. I soon found another problem. It seems that I got the cam timing off to the back head when I put the crank in it last summer. No big deal.....yet.

I decided I had better look at the valve tips on that head, since I had to do work back there anyway, with the cam timing. Well, 3 or 4 of the exhaust valves are "not looking so good", for the technical terminology. I had to pull the engine off the bike to pull that head, and that's where it sits now. Engine on the floor, rear head off of it.

In the late 80's, Hon-duh had a service bulletin on this issue of the valve tips pitting, mushrooming, etc. If the valve tips weren't mushroomed, or have pieces protruding, they would install "caps", which I'm guessing was to make a fresh hard surface at the tip of the valve, along with a different adjuster, which I'm sure would be shorter to make up for the cap. I'm tempted to try and find some of these kits, as none of the valves are going to be in great condition. Otherwise I need to just swap out more valves out of the parts engine, slap it back together, and be conservative with how high I let it rev.

Aftermarket parts are pretty much non-existant, due to that bike only being made for 3 years.

    Any other ideas?

  6. "Free" does not compute. :p

What's left to do? I figured you had the "hard" part licked' date=' already.[/quote']

The "hard" part is too soft, and that's the problem that needs licked. I'll update my thread about it, if I can find it again.

  7. The Littlest Ninja is a great bike. I love them' date=' but she was ready for something a bit more.. substantial. I know she was ready, because her overall speed and riding improved dramatically once she was used to the replacement machine.

I wish I still had my first bike.. 1988 EX500. I loved it, then got bored with it, sold it, then discovered Southern Ohio roads and now I wish I still had it.[/quote']

I like my Hon-duh 500 better, V-4 power is awesome, but I get tired of wrenching on it! Did I hear Pauly volunteering to come down here and finish it for me for free?

  8. Lyndse's first bike was a Ninja250. She put 18' date='000 miles on it before she decided it was time for an upgrade. Well, a bike upgrade. That little Ninja had an EX500 rear shock and heavier fork oil in the front end, Pirelli tires, WoodCraft rearsets, Muzzy full system and a jet kit before she decided it was a very well polished turd.

She was looking at the SV naked, but opted for the Monster. She loves it and can barely remember riding the Ninja.

She's also 4'10".. if that helps your reference.[/quote']

Ya know, the Ninja 250 serves me fine for MOST of the riding I do. I just like to have something bigger for highway riding (that I try to avoid anyway, even in the car) and more spirited rides. Most of the riding I do from place to place, the 250 is great, especially with the fuel mileage!

I say you need another Kawi!

  9. honestly they are only hurting themselves in the long run by waiting it out like that.

you are only going to get so much period. they are just extending your standard 26 weeks to 53. after that, it's over for good. until you get a job and work for X amount of time.

The guy interviewed for the story seemed to be the type to milk it out, and now is in a panic to get a job. Crying boo hoo, poor, poor me....

My step-mom is collecting unemployment, and has been on quite a few interviews. At least she is trying to get a job, but she's not rushing to flip burgers in the interim. It was nice that she could help us out with our childcare situation for a few days!
