I try and keep it around 400 but it varies. Days where there is lots to do are closer to 300. Days when it is just a freeway run it is in the high 400's. Days when it is all back roads are in the lower 300's. So 6 to 7 hours. We always plan stuff to see along the way. Even if it is just a quick stop for the world's largest cow. I plan the basic route then she hits the internet and finds those things. We stop for a real lunch at mom and pop diners most days. We also book nice hotels and make sure there is good food nearby. It's different from a guy trip to the Gap. Hotels, food and things to do are important. I joke about the casinos but she loves them, so we hit them. They are quick stops. As big as this trip was I maybe should have planned a day off somewhere. Not sure where as we were in the middle of nowhere most of the time. We did plan one shorter day to do laundry. Just hit a good laundromat and bang it out. We did decide at the last minute to do two 500 mile days the last two days. We were in Fargo. 1000 miles to home. Doing three short freeway days seemed like a waste of time. The first 500 was a long day as we spent 2 hours at Princes house. That was a 12 hour day, but not bad because of the break at Princes house. Unfortunately Prince wasn't home. Start out small, 3 or 4 days. Find yours and her grove. You will have to negotiate stops. My wife prefers more frequent stops although the last day I talked her into 130 mile runs between stops and she seemed to be ok and recognized the advantage. Frequent stops does not make it better it just drags it out when it is just a freeway run.

I went once, but only to hit the Kawasaki demo truck when I was looking at buying the Whale.

Not too exciting today. Blasted across northern Montana on rt 2. Saw a few tumbleweeds and a Harley saddle bag fly across the road.

And then we get half way across to Logan's Pass, where the road is narrow and there is this shitty 2 foot tall brick wall between you and 3000 feet straight down. 50 mph crosswinds. Had that wind for 100 miles to our hotel. It was a hell of an adventure, loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Dude, there are no car washes around here. We are on Shelby MT for the night. There ain't nothing here. So here is the story. We took the Going to the Sun Rd from west to east. The National Park Service in their infinite wisdom decided to turn the first NINE miles into the Gravel, Mud and Asphalt Debris Rd. Hard to describe how bad it was. They ripped out both sides of the road and filled it in with gravel and dirt. The dirt was mud from the morning rain. Insanely uneven side to side. Left wheel track was a solid 7 inches higher than the right. Full of potholes. We get 7 miles in and they stop us. They are letting one side through at a time so they can finish turning a section into total shit. Some of the asphalt they are ripping up ends up on the travel lane in huge ass chunks. Saw a Harley go down. I do not fault him, no idea how I didn't go down. Thankfully it was ok and he had 2 others with him and we got it back up. There is no way in hell the NPS should be letting bikes on this road. There was no warning how bad it was and I had to talk to two people to get in. One for the reservation and one for the park pass. I am going to tweet at them. Asshats. However, since I made it through I am calm and I have to say it was an amazing park. Almost as good as Zion.

Heads up before I forget. You need a reservation to ride the Road to the Sun between 6am and 3pm. They limit it to 900 cars during that time. They go on sale for 2 bucks the day before. So you do that or plan it real early or after 3pm.

Parked in Great Falls Montana. Tomorrow, Glacier National Park and the Road to the Sun. 2100 miles so far. Not quite half way.

Drive into Yellowstone from Cody was beautiful. Park is not very busy at all. We are now waiting for Old Faithful to do something.

Just saw this. Not going to make it.

Pretty excellent day today. Early round trip on Spearfish Canyon Rd. Saw some dead people and the geographical center of the US. Ran 90 over to Buffalo WY and ran 16 west. What an amazing road and views. Spending tonight in Cody WY. There is a rodeo tonight we may go to.

Tim must be unlucky. When we did the Iron Butt we had a 40 mph wind from the side from Davenport to 90 and then as a headwind the rest of the way. It sucked. Saw a really grim road kill today on 90 near Murdo. This massive steer. 2 state workers were there with a flatbed trying to figure out how to load it. Pretty sure they are going to need a lift truck or end loader. It was huge.
