....I officially became a statistic Tuesday night. Heading home from visiting a friend's house on my "new-to-me" BMW R1200RS, a mouth-breather pulled out in front of me. I had the first street-related crash in my street history. Headed west on a 4-lane suburban road in the curb lane, crested a small rise and saw a parked car in my lane. Moved to the center lane and as I passed the parked car, I caught a flash of back-up lights from a driveway on the right. Moved to left wheel track and suddenly realized that Lashondra was backing out into the street at what I can only describe as warp speed, prolly 15-20 MPH--no clue what she was thinking. Must have thought the 'R' stood for race!!! I did an emergency swerve but she never even slowed down or looked, backing across 2 lanes of traffic and caught me right behind the engine. Bike kicked sideways and I did my best Superman impression, just as if the bike had high-sided me. Both me and the bike ended up in the oncoming lane. Luckily, I didn't get run over by opposing traffic but the bike is a total loss and I spent 1 day in the trauma unit of UC Hospital. 6 busted ribs and a shattered collarbone and lots of soft tissue trauma, mostly right lung and liver. Did dodge the bullet of having a chest tube inserted but in so much pain today that the Oxy doesn't even help much. Home now but moving like an old, mostly dead guy. To top it off, she is uninsured (of course) and I don't carry collision on my toys so I'm likely gonna eat an $8000 loss which will prolly be inconsequential compared to the medical. The thing I'm most pissed at is that, even though I'd only spent a little less than a year with Beemer, I was beginning to believe that after 55 years of searching for THE ONE BIKE THAT DOES IT ALL WELL, I thought this might be the Holy Grail. Be off the streets for at least a month to 6 weeks, maybe longer depending on how much time it takes for the soft tissue injuries to resolve. The other good thing is that I could be the poster boy for ATGATT, as other than the torso injuries, I don't have another scratch or bruise on me. Legs, knees, arms, hands, head are 100% unscathed, which is truly amazing given how hard the hit was. I'll need a new helmet (was due for one anyway!) the pants and jacket are a bit ratty but overall, a good outcome. Stay safe, keep the shiny side up, and be mindful of the idiots.

Try posting your request on the AFJ FB forum. I know there are several Junkies heading there to race and they have at least one garage.

I'm totally in agreement with your disillusionment. Never understood what the big deal was entering your brand new Vette or Ferrari or high-end Eurobox in a show, merely proving your wallet is bigger than most folks. A vehicle that is the result of putting in sweat equity and thoughtful design is what should be shown. I'd certainly be proud if I owned a premium sports car but the enjoyment would come from driving it, not parading it in front of others.

Hey! There's Mr Happy chiming in....bluebird of happiness still sitting on your shoulder, I see. 🤣

I haven't been on it in years either, but from the article, it says they did some grade improvement with a fresh topping of crushed gravel. Prolly be pretty good for just about anything until they get a gully-washer in the area and the stream bed crossings get washed out. It's a pretty ride and worth a visit.

Sounds like you'll be on road rockets, but I'm posting this info for other riders who are headed to the mountains of TN/NC for adventure. Parson's Branch is now reopen!!! https://www.yahoo.com/news/primitive-desolate-road-1800s-reopens-202343462.html

Jim: Doesn't necessarily follow. I have big feet and, well....
-
Pauly: Looked at the pants on the Revzilla site. Says waist is a 38, which is prolly where I'm headed....sadly. I'll call dibs if you're willing to ship them to OH 45248. Lemeno.

@Tonik Alternatively, you could focus on killing only small, tiny people. Less of a chore to dig the hole, too....

Nice fetish to have!

As a bonafide sensate, I assumed your description of the logo as "powerful" meant that we all felt an immediate unity with the blending of OR and CR...

Jesus! WTF just happened here? I go out of town for a few weeks and get back to this mess. Why was I not consulted? Does this mean I have to buy a nice car now? Do I have to build another garage? Sigh....always wanted one of these.

No clue if Daytona is on anyone's radar, but figgered I'd share this in case of interest. No affiliation with the poster. Presume he's leaving out of the Greater Cincinnati area.

What? No milk crate yet? Dude, yer gonna ruin the image of the entire KLR mystique....

I just figgered the Metaverse had randomly puked up a stray byte of code that somehow landed on the OR forum page. Another sign of the end of times.... 😬

To the OP: Generally used in a tongue-in-cheek manner, i.e., in the spirit of good natured ribbing....unless it's @Tonik in which case it just means he's a grumpy old curmudgeon with a fading libido and tortured psyche.

Wouldn't that be "Wok San, you don't have to put on the WED light"??? 🤔

Presume you don't understand that: 1) you're posting a hunting question on a motorcycle forum. You are seriously lost, son. 2) your location is listed as CA and this is an OH-based forum. Hunting laws and opening/closing dates for different critter seasons are state-controlled and vary by state. WTF would you think that there would be any useful information to be gleaned by posting on an out-of-state forum? You are seriously lost, son.

TTR125 is a great choice for a bike to grow into. Even old fat guy capable, at least in my experience. As for the n+1 theory, I still see some unused floor space available. You're not done yet!

LOL. I didn't actually get out on the track but Mike said it was one of the finest and most fun tracks he's raced. Nice facilities, pretty good access to many overlook spots and grandstands for viewing. Showers still had steaming hot water at 10 PM in the evening!!! I CAN tell you that the walk from Paddock #5 to the start grid is a long f'n hike hauling a battery/tool cart in the hot sun on asphalt. Told the worthless peckerhead that if he can afford a race car and the $5-6K thousand dollars (his estimate) in travel money, parts money (set of new Goodyear slicks cost $1200!), Sunoco race fuel, etc, for a long weekend, that next year he's springing for a friggin' golf cart.... On a high note, I did lose 5# over the weekend in spite of going thru several cases of beer....ya know, to stay hydrated.

Guess since this whole thread was an abortion from the git-go, I'll close it out with more non-2-wheel dialog and pics. Just returned from a fun week helping a friend with his '87 Lola S2000 vintage race car at Watkins Glen for the VSCDA event. Weather was pretty cooperative but many off-course excursions (by other drivers) meant laps during test sessions and qualifying were limited due to black flags being shown. With Only about 10-12 laps of experience--he'd never raced WG previously--Mike Wright went out and took first in the Saturday race and second on Sunday. Lots of work and blood, sweat, cussing, thrown wrenches, etc....but it turned out to be a pretty successful outing. Pics of Mike going through safety inspection, on the start grid for Saturday's race, and after his P1 finish. And in the spirit of Deja-vu, I ran into a couple of old biking friends from the 90s at the Glen, who were there racing in a different class. Good to see folks from the long ago days of riding dirt trails with NKYMBA. Yeah, I'm the old guy in the middle.
