J and I will be there! What time are you all heading over there?
about 7pm~ish
-
Looking around ebay I see a real wide swing on parts prices by year and model.
A 1998 regulator is $120
A 2000 is only $25 (used)
2004 2003 SUZUKI GSXR 1000 GSXR1000 VOLTAGE REGULATOR $30
For the extra $100 I'd have to think about buying the wrong one and chopping some wires to get it to fit. Looks like the connectors are different but they mount the same it seems. But then I'm a cheap bastard!

fleebay or online somewhere. Do not get it from the local steelership lol. I will ask around...
$120

Thanks again Street and Gixxie that helps alot.
Would be super cool to find a regulator local. I called ask and they want 180.00 for it and they dont even have it on hand. Being new to the bike world I still dont know the companies yet to know the difference between getting ripped off or getting garbage
$141.02 from Ron Ayers
http://www.ronayers.com/browseparts.cfm?SearchString=32800-33E10&adv=5&kw=fiche.ronayers.com
Don't know if thats a good price or not, just noted it while I was there.

I don't have the manual handy here @ work, but there should basically be a certain resistance between the plugs that connect to the stator (this is all on the Regulator rectifier itself, what the yellows connect to maybe) and to the hot (red?) in ONE direction and to the ground (black or green) on the other direction. and I believe there should be no continuity between the yellows on the RR? Like I said I have to check. Also on the wires from the stator there should be no continuity from the those to ground either. So put that multi meter in Ohms disconnected the battery and take some readings. See if you can find a shop manual on-line for the gixxer, in the "charging system" section it should have some baseline readings you can take. I can check mine when I get home and give you a little better idea...but like I said different makes so a specific manual might be better.
I have the manual d/l ing now
Here is the link to it.
It looks like this model only has 4 wires (3 ac and +12?)
Hmm.. a read through the manual will answer all questions
RTFM!

I am not sure on his bike but there should be 3 wires coming out of the stator and 5 wires out of the rectifier/regulator. The three wires coming out of the stator are AC and the Rectifier/regulator has a 12v+ a ground and the three from the stator
That sounds about right.
The AC voltage from the stator has to get to the regulator/rectifier somehow. +12 and ground would be the other two, sure!
Set the meter to ohms x 1000 (it might say 1k instead)
If you get a 0.0 reading if the rectifier/regulator is fried measuring from ground to the +12 wire thats bad.
Keep in mind though that a 0.0 reading from any wire on the stator to any other wire on the stator is a good thing.
Thats why you want to disconnect it from the wiring harness.
Hmm... hang on let me see if I can finnd a wiring diagram for that model

Ever get this taken care of?
Yep, all better now.

On my schedule T - 4 hours

That was a fun day!

Mabey that is it. I cleaned the connector and pull all the wires out of it and wired them directly. I was left with 1 wire that had no mat (black with red stripe) yeah when i first put the new stator in i had to jump the bike,, While jumping it the stator connector attached to the harness melted
i m gonna hard wire it tongiht. but I replaced the battery and the stator wire got realy hot after riding it for about 20 mins then of course the bike died again. What kind of reading should i be looking for? and i have a volt meter but am unsure what setting to have it on to test? lol i feal like such a newb when it comes to this
If it gets hot then it is passing a lot of current [amps].
This is bad.
What it means is that there is a short somewhere along the wire.
If the stator connect to the regulator, (which it has to,just don't know how it's wired) a shorted regulator sounds very possible.
Regulators in theory have three wires. (Never seen a GSXR so yours may be different)
1 ground
2 battery
3 alternator
Disconnect the regulator from the wiring harness so you are only measuring it, not the rest of the wiring harness.
An resistance (OHM) Meter connected from ground to either of the other wires should have a high reading, several thousand ohms. Even if you reverse the meters wires you should still have a high reading.
If you have a low reading the regulator is a suspect for that short you are looking for.

If he gets out today I'm thinking a visit might be nice.
Don't know where he lives though.
Perhaps I should save that thought for another day.
Can't spin much of a wrench with a cast on...
It may be that help later would be better.

Thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated.
Amen to that!

Glad your ok
That must have sucked watching it happen and not being able to do anything about it.
+1 one for the trooper pulling in just then, a very handy witness in court!
Make sure you mention the pain while talking to her insurance company...

Greetings

Rained like crazy here, for a bit.
Now it looks clear for at least the rest of the night.
Anybody out at QSL there on-line?
Where is yous guys?
-
you should make your avatar puppies.

Bomb threat at work = no time to ride.
We did not get evacuated, had to stay and close tickets.
For the rest of the week anyway we work in the same building.

Rain sux

Very sad, RIP
Don't know what else to say...

Ah, so lame. Nobody showed up but me.
I wanted to make this a ride event but see no interest.
All the Harley riders snickered at me, but I kept up the Jap bike mystique!
"And they all moved away from me at the "GROUP W" bench"
I will pursue my ride for bike night event until I get it right. sigh...
Anybody want to have an adventure?
sigh...

Cool movies:
Bladerunner

Feel free to add to the list...

There are a few of them going on tonight. I plan on hitting at least two of them tonight.
Black Hat, see this thread for directions
http://www.ohio-riders.com/showthread.php?t=28865&highlight=tuesday+bike+night
(Buckeye Boys BBQ won't be there tonight)
And "Streets" (Formerly "The Worst Bar In Columbus")
http://www.ohio-riders.com/showthread.php?t=28031&highlight=tuesday+bike+night
Don't know about the wings though, they might not have them anymore, I'll have to ask.
They both are from 7pm till .... and a just a few miles apart so it's easy to bounce back and forth between them.
Both are over by Dublin, near or off of Sawmill for a general idea of what part of town they are in.
Think I'll hit "Streets" first. Hope to see some OR people there!
I'm heading out now, so if your bored and looking for something to do...
First year rider! well trying

The downloaded manual is for an 1100 not the 750.
Here is a link to a 1993*95 gsxr 750 manual.

They just might be different enough to matter. The 1100 has a micro chip controller on the generator. Don't know about the 750 but I didn't find a book for your exact bike. Try it and see.
