  1. I used to suggest hiking to tops of water falls. Not so much any more.
  2. Nice warm up ride..lol
  3. Headed to Florida next week with the family, I'll get the routes finalized and gas stops etcetera while drinking by the pool. Hotels are still booked and everyone can pay me when we get to the first nights stay. Jerry has already paid me if anyone else wants to do that let me know we can work it out. Looks like still 5 of us going with Jerry peeling off after the 3rd night.
  4. Well GREAT NEWS!!..My back is "very stable" and looks like is healing better than the expected average time frame. Doc is actually a rider herself and after asking me several questions about my bike and seating position, she sees no reason why I could not make this trip. With a couple stipulations as more of a comfort level type thing. One, she wants me to wait the two more weeks before I try to get on the bike just to be ensure that everything has that extra time to heal over. Two, wear one of my braces the entire time I'm riding. Three, if my bike doesn't have a back rest try to put something on the rear seat that I can lean against if I would need too. Which I was going to have a dry bag with an air mattress and my extra jacket there anyway so that was kinda already planned. Four, take it easy. Five, this is the important one she says.... DON'T WRECK..LOL Have my next appointment with her the week after we get back from the Gap and she said most likely at that time she will tell me I no longer will need the brace and she doesn't see where any other Physical Therapy will be needed. So that is it folks trip is on I'm going couldn't be happier. . Doc gave a green light, wife is there to ask are you sure 50 times and healing faster than anticipated as I thought I was.
  5. Heal time for the injury I have if nothing else has happened since my last xrays is 6 to 8 weeks then start physical therapy to get movement and muscles built back up for a other 6 weeks. This trip will be into that 6th week of healing. This is why I feel its doable and I'm optimistic. I honestly think the Doc will say I'm ahead of that curve on how I've felt the last couple weeks. I know doctors hear this all the time from people but really am a fast healer. When I chopped my finger a couple years ago and broke my wrist 3 years ago. Both those things healed in 60 to 70 percent of the average heal time. Hell I went on my first 2500 mile bike trip with Dan four weeks after I broke my left wrist. Stitting at the hospital now, had to get here early to get the xrays, other appointment is at 1:30. The wife is with me so I can't lie and say the Doc said it would be okay, she won't let me...lol
  6. Well only the xrays will tell. If the Doc say no way I'll listen. Personally I fell riding my bike is more comfortable than riding in a car, only time the size of my bike is a strain is when I try to make it do things most people would never do on a lighter bike. For the most part I'm just sitting on it letting it do the work and know ill have to turn it down a lot of notches. Like I said we'll see what the ol neurosurgeon says tomorrow after looking at the new x rays.
  7. Going to the Doc tomorrow folks. Im optimistic I'll get a caution light to go. Don't think the doc will says yes but don't think ill be shut down either. Ive been feeling really good lasy week or so and have a new brace now that is less confining. Sorry to keep you all on pins and needles about this but I didnt have any real news yet. This time tomorrow I should know. Sounds like most of ya'll were still going anyway.
  8. Updated my first post...i may or may not have a problem...lol
  9. Where to begin.... My bike... Wife's bike, kinda hidden.... The notorious Recon... Zero turn mower... My daily or known as (Da Hoe).... Wife would not permit me to put one directly on her new car so I had to get creative...one on the front too... One of many tool boxes and one on the garage fridge... And the air compressor... I think that's it other than my wife's work car but it's not home right now.
  10. Stay away from the rider ones the first gen. The mounts are weak and break and the screen looses calibration and is a pain to recalibrate. I'm on my 3rd mount and they are getting really hard to find because they all break eventually. The rider 2 had a better mount but i hear about a lot of dock mount charging issues. Mainly due to using th same tiny pins the R1 uses I'm always cleaning mine with contact clraner. Just got in the habit of cleaning them if i think they ever get wet. I'm not complaining about my R1 because I only paid $60 for it and paid $20 for the last mount. So for what I have invested it works as a good back up to my phone. But if it ever craps out in pulling my cheap nuvi and dry box back on
  11. I hauled my pair to Coolville for Justin to mount before out VA trip several weeks ago.
  12. Here you go @yoshiii HP is probably mid 90s but the gearing milds it out for a newer rider.
  13. Any bike with 90 hp or less will be more than manageable if your smart. A lot of the non super sport 600 fall under this. The versys or vstrom 650 will be taller but are more of a touring bike. If you more sport oriented look into the ones Justin recommended that is a excellent list.
  14. Weight isn't limiting but height is. You guys have no idea how cramped a small big is for us tall guys. You know those dents in the tank where your knees are supposed to tuck into? Yea mine won't fit into most bikes under 600cc even some 600s. Feels like riding spread eagle all the time and my ass is practically sitting on the rear pylon on most of those small bikes. I'll concur with your previous post and bike recommendation. And yea stay away from the R and RR bikes.
  15. This is my old set up, I still have it but its not on the bike currently. Garmin nuvi 50 that I bought black Friday for $40, ramount dry box $40 and tech mount that was already on my bike.
  16. If you want a GPS made for motorcycles prepare to pay out dearly. I personally will not pay the price they want for them. I've taken cheap car units and mounted them in dry boxes. Currently I just use my phone with sygic app and download the maps to it. Phone is mounted with a x grip and my GS7 is already water proof. My back up is a first gen TomTom rider1 it's ancient and out dated but works in a pinch if my phone would fail me. If money is no obstacle I've heard the Garmin are the only way to go. But I would never pay $500 to $700 for a GPS unit. I've heard the TomTom Rider newer Generations are fairly decent too, just a little bit different format and maybe about a hundred bucks cheaper than the Garmin
  17. There was snow off of I70 in July when me and my son were riding Colorado a few years agom
  18. Might be..lol I bought the bike with 17k on it. And I cleaned it with kerosene everytime the bike got washed and lubed with PJ1 clear maybe every 2 weeks or before every long ride.
  19. Yup that's one of my routes I took you guys on. Awesome day except that tractor I about plowed into ..lol
  20. It's all about the adventure I'm still so jealous and wish it was me dealing with these problems.
  21. Stock chain on my TL had 42k miles when I took it off and it was still good I just wanted a purdier one. Always took care of it cleaning and lubing. I've heard other people say that stock chains last less than 10K so maybe that's a testament of what maintenance can do
