  1. Oh man, I've bought 2 pairs of boots this year already...what US size do you normally wear?
  2. Saw this elsewhere... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006VFS4J2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B006VFS4J2&linkCode=as2&tag=legirevi03-20
  3. This piece has some pretty good and USEFUL apps, several of which I already use. Anyone have any other favorites? Mac haters can refrain from commenting... http://www.macstories.net/roundups/my-must-have-mac-apps-2012-edition/ I've seen a lot of recommendations for Quicksilver. I tried it but never did get it. My favorite app is Alfred. At first it's usefulness escaped me but I'm loving it now. I rarely need to remove my hands from the keyboard.
  4. Oh geez, where to start? Actually in the app store, there's a section called "must haves" or "startup collection" or something or other. Have a look at those. Be wary, a lot of "free apps" anymore have content that you must pay for. It's getting annoying. When you view info about an app, check the "top-in app purchases" section to see the kinds of things that people buy. Some just make the app (usually games) easier or more functional and some are absolutely required to get past certain levels or perform specific tasks. I understand they have to make money but damn, charge for the app up front and be done with it. (sorry rant) Some of my favs: Kindle App Facebook mSecure (password/sensitive info vault) Pinball arcade (a must for pinball lovers) Zite (a news aggregator that reads like a magazine with topics chosen by user) Zinio (reads magazines on the iPad) Netflix Amazon Video HBO Go IMDB Twitter 5/3 Banking app (most big banks have an app now)
  5. ^^^this. If it were my wife's boss, I would tell my wife because I know she wouldn't care and actually get a kick out of it. I'd prefer she knew so if it ever came up, she was prepared.
  6. LCD = LED. They are one in the same. LED LCD's just use different backlighting (LEDs) than more traditional that use CCFL lighting.
  7. UPDATE: Surgery was a success and wasn't all that bad except I happen to get a bad chest cold immediately after surgery. I thought I felt something coming on before but wasn't sure if it was allergies or not. Took me almost 3 weeks to totally shake that. Been working from home since a week after surgery (lucky for me, it's an option). Things have progressed quicker than anticipated and I've finally been cleared to ditch the boot and walk without crutches although no running, jumping, standing on tippy toes (ballet is out ), etc. Hurts to walk a bit and I started real PT last week. Because of scheduling, I ended up going to PT 2 days in a row this week...mistake. I was really hurting on that third day but I'm walking and feeling much better. I keep eyeing my bike in the garage hoping for a warm spell. I'm also cleared to drive as long as I manage to not have to jam on the brakes Returning back to the office for the first time on Monday.
  8. I didn't read through all of the reply's above but it's something you need to decide for yourself and how anal you are. Go to the stores and look at them to compare. I own a 56" LG LED (3D) and a 50" Samsung Plasma. I did a lot of research before buying each tv...here is what I discovered off the top of my head. PLASMA PROS: Deep blacks Good color Not prone to ghosting or motion blur great overall picture relatively inexpensive for same size screen as LED PLASMA CONS: Energy sucking dog HOT! Seriously, it heats up my bedroom like a fireplace. Not so good in the summer Subject to screen burn if you have static content (games, tickers/crawlers, etc) Active shutter glasses 3D only Most screens are pretty reflective LED PROS: Not too bad on electricity Not too hot Great colors Thin and light LG (and maybe Panasonic now) offer passive 3D (still need glasses) Screens are less reflective LED CONS: Many have uneven lighting - especially edge lit. If back lit, make sure it offers local dimming Many have halos or flashlight effect around bright objects with dark background blacks not as deep as plasma more expensive than plasma more prone to motion blur/ghosting There are a lot of great reviews over at AVS forums for specific models once you've narrowed them down. However, most ppl on there are the most anal retentive people in the world. Seriously, I thought I was bad but these guys take it to a whole new level. Take what they say with a grain of salt and look for trends of good/bad points.
  9. Thanks for the lead...here is the answer https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/icpgjfneehieebagbmdbhnlpiopdcmna
  10. I don't like that when you open a new tab, it comes up with the apps/favorites, etc. I like a new tab to come up with the search engine of choice (Google) because 90% of time, I'm going to do a search.
  11. ^^^This. Don't bother with an FZ8...it's basically a lesser FZ1 with inferior parts (suspension, etc). Comfortable to ride, not a lot of plastic to get damaged or get in the way of servicing and lots of aftermarket options for luggage, etc.
  12. Great points Todd! I thought this might cure my itch for an A15 or similar As anal as I am about keeping my stuff nice, #3 is the biggest dealbreaker for me.
  13. Got an email this morning from Sig about this...looks pretty slick and will work nicely with my P226. Thoughts from the gun enthusiasts (notice I didn't say gun nuts )?
  14. I use FF mostly but have Chrome installed and use it here and there. I don't have many extensions except for a few popular ones like ad blocker etc.
  15. Depends on your board preference settings... Welcome to OR! Just stay away from the cages and you won't get bitten, licked or otherwise molested
  16. No way...I was using the beta of Win 7 months before the release and I couldn't wait for the final build. I had skipped Vista altogether. I consider myself an advanced user (I regularly use the command console, edit registry, etc) and I played with the beta for Win 8 for awhile. I see no compelling reason whatsoever to upgrade. Going from XP to Win 7 was a large leap with a lot of improvements.
  17. No way I'm "upgrading" anytime soon.
  18. Boss Hoss bikes are pretty famous...pretty neat to see one up close.
  19. Ahhh...I was thinking that may be the case. Either that or you're really vain!
  20. I'm a dog lover big time but if one gets to biting on me (seriously biting), it's neck is getting broken right then and there.
  21. Here are more Kodachromes... http://www.shorpy.com/Large_Format_Kodachromes
