  1. So far. I got the (same) flu shot back then but still caught this particular strain.
  2. Is anyone taking bets on Hoblick's next motorcycle yet? I sure as hell am not betting...!
  3. Do you guys see what happened AGAIN? The thread turned into another one where Duane is at the CENTER of it, and the topic has now squirmed through several subject changes in an attempt to avoid being pinned down by his own logical fallacies, not the least of which exposes callously enhanced risk factors to fellow OR riders. There isn't much left except name calling at this point, because he's so goddamned stubborn, he'll end up killing one of us before he'll admit to texting and driving being wrong, wrong, wrong. That is, unless he's punking us, which honestly I'd prefer because if it's my daughter that dies traversing a country road at his hands, I will personally hand-bury a fucking blade so far up his crotch, he becomes human change purse. STOP FEEDING THE TROLL. He likes to play contrarian - he feeds off of it. A little is fine - we all have our quirks - but he won't grow out of it while we keep rewarding his behavior with attention. He fails to respect the boundary between intellectual debate and ego satisfaction at other's expense, and as far as I can tell he doesn't really care, so there's little value the rest of the OR community gets out of it in the transaction. Seriously, STOP FEEDING THE TROLL so he can discover better ways of interacting online, or somewhere else to throw elbows.
  4. No kidding. I'm on day 6, and while I'm not achey anymore and can get around now, my energy is low, I'm congested and a little had moved to my chest. I decided to take the rest of the week off to avoid bronchitis/pneumonia.
  5. Those are great ideas. In the end I'm thinking Cyl Head Temp, per-cyl Exhaust Gas Temp, maybe airflow and/or O2 if I can find a way not to drill into anything, per-cyl suction, battery voltage, current flow and charge/discharge, engine RPM and ground speed. I'd like to log the data and also make it available by serial cable into a pretty app, ideally via bluetooth. Maybe make that a secondary design requirement since your current draw may be too low for it really to matter?
  6. Maybe, as long as it doesn't cut into the Crash News Network's all-day tragedy binge.
  7. Yea, I don't think it'll do better than my Motion Pro manometer and I don't intend to rig up an servos for automatic syncing (no room, like you said), but I'm thinking it could start me along the way towards more complete engine monitoring. Here's what I'm thinking - new electric cars and motorcycles have onboard telemetry that can tell you tons about how the vehicle is performing and helps to deepen the relationship between owner can vehicle. With older carbureted bikes, you develop a feel for how they're doing and that's usually good enough once you go through the learning curve, but I kind of want to experiment with what additional data points could tell someone, especially if they're new to engines.
  8. Sounds like a cool application! I was thinking about starting with a throttle body sync tool. I found a description of hardware a guy put together, and I'd think the code would be pretty straightforward.
  9. My daughter has a 2005 Mazda Tribute 3L, which is essentially the same car. She loves it and it's been very reliable through 85,000 miles, requiring only a new alternator beyond the typical wearable parts.
  10. Like jbot said. Except he left out troll troll troll troll, presuming magdor magdor magdor magdor self-implied it. For those of us who have been down this path many times before, please, don't feed the troll. Actually I'm unsubscribing from the thread now just to avoid the temptation.
  11. I'd bet on the full week if you got what a lot of us have. Damned tough cold/flu virus. Rest and get well!
  12. Thank you Shoop! I want to work on my CB77 project too.
  13. Dropbox is a great idea. Share a folder to scott@mccrory.us if you'd like.
  14. I think you may have missed the part about this being a PSA. What are you watching that reformats news like a PSA?

    Sony Hack

Even free, I'll pass. The previews just didn't appeal to me.
  16. Awesome, looks great! I pulled mine out, connected it to the Macbook, downloaded Arduino's workbench editor and played with a blinky light sketch, adjusting its delay times, etc.
  17. That rocks! BTW if you're wondering which Arduino to get started with, my recommendations would be to 1) start simple, and 2) get a small but complete kit. For #1, if you're a techie like me, you might be tempted to get the Yun board from the outset, thinking that Wifi connectivity and higher computational power could be a good thing down the road, but IMHO you'd just be adding complexity to your first steps. A little Uno would be a fine way to get started with hardware and the language. Personally picked up an Uno kit from Sparkfun. It was $100 plus shipping, which isn't chump change, but it seriously accelerates your first steps of getting started: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12060
  18. It's OK - it'll just take a little time to get, and experimentation to really grok it. For example, breadboards are easy once you play with them. Here's a great article about how they work and why they're awesomerrr than alternatives for prototyping: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/how-to-use-a-breadboard As for the language, yes, it's cryptic, is more like C than anything, and C is considered one of the harder languages to pick up from scratch. However, just look at someone's working, pre-baked sketches at first. DO NOT try to write your own yet unless you are prepared to overcome frustration. IMHO the best way to get started is to just fork out the $50 for an Arduino kit and work though a good, guided tutorial. You'll get it. The learning curve will be painful at first, but you'll get it. If you can remember how you learned how to ride bikes, it might be a lot like that. Now, you don't even think about the basics.
  19. If the weather was better, it'd be a good excuse to meet somewhere by bike, but meh. :-) Let's maybe keep this thread going if/as either of us digs deeper into it, perhaps to inspire the other (or others) to dive in. I really want to see what kinds of sensors are available for carbureted engines, though I suspect I'll back off once I add up the costs of monitoring voltage, current, egt, ox, etc.
  20. I don't remember - are you near Columbus? You're welcome to borrow mine for a few weeks.
  21. No riding for me this past week. I picked up a nasty cold/flu Christmas eve and have been sleeping most of the days and nights feeling achey and being whiney. Serves me right, I guess, bragging about when I have been able to ride :-).
  22. I think you'll have fun, and let me know if you have any questions - I'll do my best to dredge up my electronics training. I also have solid programming cred, though my exposure to Arduino is probably not much more than yours.
