Had plenty of cluster issues, but sortof sounds like an issue with the buttons. Anybody with a tech 2 should be able to scan those modules for codes, and test the display of the cluster. If its a cluster you're not going to be able to replace and program it yourself anyway. Might want to check out a dealership, I can help if you want to bring it in.

Heard good and bad about them, the two guys running our service department came from there with nothing good to say. I interveiwed with the service manager out there, and obviously I didn't go to work there. It's basically a new car selling machine out there. Yeah those idlers and tensioners go bad quite often on fullsize trucks, my Camaro is starting to do that too, amazing to me since it doesn't get drivin a lot, and never in rain or snow. Sucks to have replaced the A/C compressor, but it wouldn't be far behind in the clucth making noise anyway.

Get your self a correct sized twist socket, hammer it on, and hope for the nut to move or the stud to break so you can get it off the car. You can get a cheap basic set at most auto parts stores by Irwin, works good, about $20.

I wouldn't put a lot of worry into temp, if the car is up to temp and you've drove it normally for a few miles it should be fine, because you don't want it overheated from driving it hard either. Leave the engine running and remove plug, fill until some spills out, do not count the initial little bit because some will get into that tube when driving. That article looks like it was written by some anal Saab owner, the main reason to check it running is because the trans is designed to operate with a certain level in the pan at a certain temp, the tube gong up is the level, and while ATF does change level with temp its not as severe as some make it out to be. Basically it just needs to be up to a normal temp and not overheated. Leaks coolant huh? Keep these lame responses up in the tech threads and I'll delete them. Personally you didn't give a very good description at all.

Dot 3 and 4 can be mixed, dot 4 has a higher boiling point. Avoiding having the master run dry is prefered, its just easier not to have to bleed air from the master, if it happens its not a big deal just takes longer. Also if the truck has ABS you don't want the ABS module to get air in it because that can be a real bitch to bleed, sometimes it even takes a scan tool, however if you keep the reseviour full of fluid you'll avoid any of these headaches. Like Tom said above just do one line at a time, keep the master full inbetween. Then to flush the system just keep bleeding until you get clean fluid all around. There are lots of tools for flushing and bleeding brakes, all of them are just fancier ways of moving fluid through the system, having someone pump and hold while you open bleeders will work just fine.

If electric power steering fails you just lose assist, much like hydrolic. What the concern is with the ignition switches that shutting off power kills everything in the car like turning the key off.

I think since he doesn't have some reputable engine builder name on it, he'd have a hard time selling it for a decent price. So I would expect to actually get cheaper. Just my 2 cents, just put the damn thing in the car rather then take a bath on it.

Sounds like a definite possibility. Steel bolts in an aluminum head can be a real bitch. Be prepared to spend some coin cleaning that up. I could fix it at work, but it won't be by Friday. Best of luck.

Ignition problems, and the electric power steering are 2 different cases. All the cars mentioned in the electric power steering have either been recalled or warranty extended on long before this. Besides any V6 Malibu or G6 had hydrolic power steering anyway, so don't tell me the media isn't hyping this shit up. The ignition switch is a different matter, I personally have never had to replace a faulty switch (not a lock cylinder, the electrical switch) on a Cobalt anyway, so I don't see it as a big deal. However it must have been an issue on some cars, albeit a fraction, lets get mad at GM for issuing recalls. I didn't see you posting angry rants in the "Honda is giving away free engines on Civics of the same age as these Cobalts" thread.
