  1. Stopped in Asheville for the night. Have to get up soon to blast home, repack an overnight bag and drive to Detroilet to jump on an airline. Gotta bring one of our birds home from the service center Thursday, then fly it all day Friday. Id rather be on this thing with you guys. Have fun and be safe!
  2. Welcome. Sure are a lot of FJR folks hanging out here lately...
  3. I'll be in Maggie, no question about it. At least the ride is a manageable size...
  4. All back together, packed and ready for a 5am departure.
  5. Changed my oil last night and discovered my Ohlins shock is leaking. That sucks since I'm leaving tonight for pretty much the whole month on the road. I guess I'll put my old stock shock back on this afternoon before I go. That's going to suck for the gap trip.
  6. That man was considered by the best riders in the FJR community to be a highly skilled and disciplined rider, one of the best. Knowing what I know about him, I'm inclined to believed the medical problem theory. He was also an extraordinarily nice guy.
  7. On rides like this, that's what it's for, spare gas in case somebody miscalculated. I even carry a specially made transfer hose that hooks into a quick connect behind the side panel to pump gas from that tank to another container. No worries. A few years ago when I did the Sorebuttapolooza ride, I thought it'd be aggravating to stop every 100 miles, as the route was planned. The truth is, it was refreshing and a relaxing change. I'm completely good with any kind of trip, so long as I'm on two (or three ) wheels and out of NW Ohio.
  8. Don't worry about holding me up, I'm feeling older and slower every year.
  9. I just want to know how we've turned into a country full of whiny crybabies.
  10. You guys give me a headache.
  11. I wish I could have aborted this last international trip. Lots of weird stuff every day. We had to soldier through. Long, tough week. Would have been better to just turn around and go back home.
  12. Soo...Ohio riders epic expo in Vegas? I'm in!
  13. Pretty good reviews on these tires from the FJR crowd.
  14. Great riding skills you have. Good job.
  15. Nice! The transformer for my house and several neighbors is on a pole in my back yard. We had a young squirrel a couple years ago trip the line breaker, made him pretty crispy. They sent out a third party crew to reset it, but every time they tried, it sent sparks everywhere. Then an actual Edison crew came out to swap out the whole breaker assembly. It was kind of interesting to watch. Anyway, it didn't fry my meter, but I did have a few small electronics stop working. Now everything sensitive is on a surge suppressor.
  16. That's hurtful. I'm going to my safe place.
  17. Actually, the more I think about it..the real question is whether "Joe average" or even "Joe slightly-above average (Tonik)" can out brake a modern abs system on the track or on the street. I'd bet a paycheck the answer is "no" at least 75% of the time.
  18. Right. I guess that still leaves the question of whether it's an advantage or not, on the track. My (uneducated) guess is that the super high level, professional riders (MotoGP guys) can brake more competitively without it. The rest of us would benefit from it, especially on the street.
  19. I don't know anything about the track, but from those I've talked to, you have to be very good to out brake a modern abs system. That said, MotoGP bikes don't have it. You Rossi, Marquez, Dovi caliber?
  20. FJR brake fluid changes are easy, as long as you don't let air into the abs block. Basically, you push the old stuff out with new fluid and keep going until it comes out clean. It's a little tricky because they are also linked brakes, but as long as you keep both reservoirs from going dry and sucking air, you're good. Get a couple bubbles of air in there though and you'll spend the rest of the day getting them out.
