  1. I have said it before and i'll say it again - why are you trying to put money into lowering a summer beater you are going to drive 3 weeks out of every year? couple of things - if you drop it you then need to do an alignment. Also I would consider a suspension limiter of some sort (e.g. a limiting strap or limiting chain) so if you do unload the car's weight (like over the crest of a hill) that the springs don't pop out of their perches. more of an issue for the rear than the front.
  2. can we clear something up here? Construction Contractor: A person you hire to subcontract and orchestrate a big job that requires multiple specialists to complete the job. e.g a bathroom remodel might require a plumber, an electrician, a drywall hanger, a painter, etc...you hire the contractor so you don't have to hire and coordinate all the specialists yourself. Occasionally they will do the prep work themselves but they are really there to coordinate the job. Plumber, electrician, HVAC, etc....these are not construction contractors. they are specialty contractors. Why the clarification? because Specialty contractors for HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Hydronics, and Refrigeration must be licensed in the state of Ohio. Residential Construction contractors do not. What does this mean? well, any dipshit can be a residential construction contractor but at least as it pertains to plumbers and electricians you have some added measure of protection and can complain for substandard work to the licensing agency. Since this tends to be a field where every body's brother's cousin knows a guy who "does that kind of work" using a licensed specialty contractor helps weed out some of the garbage. Having a license does not necessarily mean they are good business people (most are not) but it at least shows they care about their profession enough to keep their licenses current. just something to think about. Carry on.
  3. the only thing I caution with a chevy with over 100,000 miles, esp a tahoe or yukon, is get one where the transmission has already been rebuilt or replaced. For some reason with chevys it isn't if but when. My father is a dyed in the wool chevy guy and every suburban and Tahoe he has had has needed a trans, usually around 150K miles. He doesn't abuse his trucks but they have hauled a motorcycle trailer a million times and towed a car and car trailer a few times (all of his are 1500 series). In fact I think the volt is the only chevy he has had in the last 20 years that didn't need a transmission. He's not the only one, my cousins's 2006 tahoe needed a trans also at around the same mileage. if you buy a manual trans pickup I don't think this is an issue.
  4. Do this: get a little hand sander and 300 grit. Sand the roof smooth so you can't feel the clear coat peel. Get some rustoleum satin black. Spray the roof satin black. Reapply every two years. No wax no rust no problem.
  5. Your phone is ringing, I think it's some sort of cooking implement metaphor calling to let you know you are a hypocrite.
  6. I get that you think that's the point you are trying to make. It's sad that you don't see how the things you have said have tied back to it. nobody is arguing that selective moderation happened, you just don't have any proof that it happened the way you say it happened. nor is the way you say it happened neutral to the hate speech side of things.
  7. Nice! I rebuilt a rack and a half of motorcycle carbs sitting at the desk. I am surprised you could do all that in 2 hours.
  8. Yay!!!! my fan club is here. T-shirts will be in by Thursday guys I promise. Also Mensan, I got the web cam hooked up like you asked, is it getting a clear look at my toilet? I know you said that was crucial.
  9. It's a Passat wagon with a 271 hp v8 (called the w8 because of it's narrow angle which they also put in the Phaeton), AWD, and a manual trans. If you are a Vw geek spotting one is like spotting bigfoot driving a brazillian vw SP2 in downtown seattle, if not they are about as exciting as luke warm vanilla ice cream.
  10. I don't have to belittle you - I don't agree with the things you say and I make a case for it. And I don't have to make that hard of a case. If you feel belittled maybe you are more emotionally invested in this argument than I am. nobody is disagreeing with you that reddit is lousy about it's enforcement policy. and nobody is disagreeing that there are uglier and more hateful subreddits than the currently banned one. But nobody is agreeing with you that "no harassment happened" because it is a statement you can't support. Also, the way you have phrased your argument and included "whiny bitches" implicitly puts you on the moral side of the argument that hate speech should be allowed to continue. If you have missed this, then I'm sorry but it isn't me being condescending so much as you not comprehending the point you are really making nor understanding how when you make an assertion of fact you need to be ready for someone to call you to the carpet (and by the way, now I am being condescending just in case there is some confusion). this is the internet, if you are reading tone in to my writing it has more to do with your reading and interpretation than my writing. As far as being a keyboard warrior, clearly you missed the point where it was my living to do this sort of thing in real life for a while as well. There is such a thing in this world as civil discourse, people can have disagreeing viewpoint. If you open with an agressive one like "whiny fucks" be prepared for someone to respond in kind (and also prepared for them to have a better argument than yours). That's all for now, class dismissed.
  11. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/official-my2005-production-numbers-model-color-83304.html http://www.passatworld.com/forums/volkswagen-passat-b5-discussion/190984-official-production-numbers-my00-thru-my05-passat.html 424 <1461 ....but I see what you did there.
  12. you threw out the ability to stand on moral high ground the moment you used homophobic insults. If you think I am concerned about "my character" to a person both demonstrating for and arguing for intolerance then you don't see the forest from the trees. As for yours, again I don't have to say a thing - your statements do a good job already of making it very clear who you are. If you haven't learned yet that your "reputation" can be undone by one thing you say than you either lead a pretty sheltered life or are under 30. I imagine that will be a hard lesson for you to learn when the time comes. I am not the one sweating here. In fact this is actually kind of fun. Why should I, they took a course of action that I agree with given what little evidence is presented. I am not the one making the argument that the wrong course of action was taken - you are. If you want to make the case that what you think happened is wrong the burden of proof lies on you to support your argument. this is just common sense, no magic here. Flawed logic is not a typo. I haven't pointed out any typos for your argument. You logic is flawed and it is obvious. You are trying to make the best argument you can for why you are "entitled" to use this private thing for free speech when there is no law or right guaranteeing you it. by the way, please tell me you get the irony of being bothered by my differing opinion yet you are arguing for people's right to make hate speech on the internet. I would hate for that little nugget to have sailed over your head like a 747 at cruising altitude. Can you really sink lower? I mean it's possible, but do you really want to?
  13. some sources say there are just over 100 and one ad last year claimed 143 w8 6MT wagons made. So it's rare. rarer than an an 05 Legacy GT manual wagon. nice catch.
  14. I can only judge you one unfunny comment at a time. However start with insults? I think the pot might be calling your phone right now since your first response was a homosexually pejorative one directed at me. Are you honestly crying that I have insulted you after that little outburst? weak as wet toilet paper. Nice attempt at a reversal but it failed, I don't have to insult your character, you are doing a fine job on your own with your own comments. yes there are far more racist, etc...subreddits but none with as large a group as that. And again, it wasn't banned for content it was banned for harassment. Nothing sends a message better than cutting the head of the biggest chicken. Your argument was that it was based on content and not harassment. Now you are changing your position? Fixed it for you. I agree that there are far worse reddits with fewer participants doing far worse things. and if I was them I wouldn't discuss any policy enforcement with anybody either in light of the attention the issue is getting. My point is you are basing your argument upon statements you cannot prove like "there was no harassment". You are also partially blaming the "victims" here by calling them "whinny fucks" when in reality you don't have any more information than anyone else has and it is no more than speculation than mine or anyone else's opinion. I fully support you finding another resource for your hate speach since you seem so worried that free thing you use semi-anonymously on the internet is threatening to take it away from you.
  15. It's the internet, where else are people going to get out the hate they have to bottle up because they aren't going to say it in public? I've seen that black viper around as well. Seems louder than stock. I have to imagine there are exhaust kits for vipers like other cars.
  16. maybe, but I do take a particular interest in those who show ignorance and lack of compassion to their fellow man. Good to know you are such a raging homophobe. Any other bigotry you would care to share with us? Any other piece of ignorant intolerance you want to share? I read it and came to the same conclusion. Reddit management has more information than their users and their users are just whining they can't openly be bigots on the internet anymore. Point blank reddit is reddit management's toy and it is at their discretion to make policy, collect information, and enforce policy at their discretion. If you don't like it your options are not to use it or lobby for change with their management. there is one comment I do agree with and that is Reddit probably should be more transparent about their definition of harassment and enforce it in a more objective way. Again there is no proof in the comments that proves there was no harassment, just a lot of speculation from users. Have to side with Reddit on this one, they are in a position to see much more data than any one user including privately submitted complaints and PMs. I get the feeling that this was to set an example in the wake of their new policy changes and that all the other subreddits that are smaller and equally as harassing better shape up or ship out. Honestly, there is so much poor behavior on reddit that if they just went out an banned all the harassing subreddits they would ban the majority of their user base. And if some of the more harassing smaller ones continue they will probably be banned in upcoming weeks. This was the shot fired across the bow. Here is the thing I don't get about people using reddit. If they just want to express hate toward a particualr group in public, why not just join a hate group and actually go out and protest fat people et al. Anonymity? If the /jailbait reddit fiasco or edward snowden, or wikileaks taught us anything it is that anonymity is as much a fiction on the internet as it is in real life. If you give someone reason enough to care they can find out who you are. this reminds me of the illinios nazis in the 1970s. Just because you win a supreme court case that says you have the right to exercise bigoted speech as part of free speech doesn't mean being a Nazi is suddenly a popular and accepted thing.
  17. Prove it. They have a complaints monitoring program and access to a lot more data than you. How do you magically know that nobody harassed someone when they publicly claim otherwise.
  18. I don't know how smart it is to base a free speech protest on a platform of bigotry and intolerance. I mean I get that free speech is inclusive of these ideas but it's just not a popular or historically successful way of doing things.
  19. Ah reddit....just when you think humanity has evolved along comes proof that we are only slightly less intelligent than the primates from which we came
  20. This made me laugh because of how true it is. There was this period in America from 1960 to about 1990 where technology in cars really didn't advance all that much. Sure we moved from carbs to computer controlled FI and from record players to tape decks to compact discs, but really if you look at a 1980 malibu you find almost no real different technology than a 1964 malibu. This was also the time when german cars started penetrating into foreign markets. Because there wasn't a lot of tech to differentiate them in the marketplace and because they needed to establish their foreign market share the value of the inflated price was mechanical durability and reliability. Rusting issues aside, if you owned a big five german car (audi, VW, MB, BMW, Porsche) made between 1960 and 1995 you pretty much got something with the reliability and mechanical simplicity of an anvil. This is where the idea that german cars are reliable comes from. If you doubt it, go to CL and see how many e30 and e34 bmws and W123 MBs there are still for sale and running. After 1995 the german marketing philsophy changed and they shifted to premium cutting edge technology as their market place advantage in the luxury market. With a cutting edge - things bleed. constantly. I have gotten porn using two tin cans and a string - it all depends on whose house you are outside of.
  21. following up on our conversation from yesterday: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/5055614096.html http://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/5015350625.html
  22. Jegs has been out of stock on a lot of strange items lately. Went in to get safety wire and safety wire pliers and they were out of the pliers.
  23. NADA has it between $11 and $15K but I am actually surprised by that as I see plenty of these on CL for around $7-9K. It's literally a used 1981 Chevrolet whose only premium is that it is a corvette. It doesn't appear to be an L82 so, not much else going on there. That being said - these cars are kind of performance bargains if you are looking for something to hot rod. The C3 chassis was the most raced of all the corvettes and there is a ton of handling stuff in the aftermarket. Plus any chevy engine will fit in the engine bay.
  24. no, he's pretty serious about it. been talking about it in real life as well.
