  1. Agree fully with Jones, in addition to cleaning the EGR, check the intake. If the EGR has excessive soot build-up, the intake is likely clogged. Do not clean the EGR with any type of solvents, it will kill it in short order (unfortunately I found this out first hand). Cleaning the EGR and intake is a couple hour job and well worth the time. Check the snow screen in the tube leading to the airbox, at that mileage it is likely clogged if it has never been cleaned. My TDI is now over 211k so I've learned a few of the common issues. http://www.tdiclub.com has any info you could ever want on the car.
  2. Rolled out of bed early to make the trip up, unfortunately I was greeted by a downpour/storm. Maybe next week.
  3. Having the right gear and having a clue of how to use it are two totally different things:dumb: A good camera does not make a good photographer.
  4. Looks great as usual! Nice work on the photos but they should have been of a Silver Z...
  5. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae324/SilverTwinOH/TimRace.jpg and a bit of 1fynzx's creativity, my son is a Transformers nut http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae324/SilverTwinOH/bumblebeeZSilver.jpg
  6. One of my favorites http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae324/SilverTwinOH/SilverTwinBW.jpg
  7. Also in for details on the wheels.............
  8. Can you PM or email me a pic or two, very interested. I would like to try to determine what generation it is. I've never had one but just googled and it looks like I should be able to tell from pics. Based on the timeframe I think it should be a 3 or 4 which is fine with me.
  9. Just got back from a week at the Dragon yesterday. The Dragon is only one of many great drives in that immediate area. I do agree that running the Dragon is much more fun and safer during the week. We spent the weekend either drinking at Fontana Village or driving other roads in the area. If you plan a weekend trip, search to make sure there are no large events the same weekend. Last weekend was the annual Zdayz event, nearly 500 registered attendees and probably ~200 that didn't bother to register, it made for crowded roads.
  10. Most of the Stillen parts are decent as they are typically someone else's products rebadged as Stillen. Stillen built is another story, tons of horror stories out there. The Stillen 'built' longblocks are nothing more than ATK remans. I've seen them with multiple sized rod bearings, mismatched heads (NA vs TT) with the casting marks ground off to try to hide it etc... Most Stillen parts are basic bolt-on mods.
  11. Based on the age it is hard to get a solid baseline, I don't follow the market closely as I haven't bought/sold one in 13 years. I have seen low mileage clean examples anywhere from ~$10k-18K. I know that 's a huge spread but it depends on the location, season, and finding the right buyer.
  12. The '90-94's are very prone to injector failure. To update to the newer style '95+ injectors you are looking at ~$700 in parts. At that age is will need a full timing belt service which will address most of the leak concerns noted above (cam seals, vtc's, water pump, bypass hoses, etc...). Parts will be in the $375 range to do it properly. The other common leaks are the valve covers which require a full plenum pull to access them. To the right buyer, the cars still bring a good price and people are willing to travel for a good clean Z. I've been into these cars for ~15 years and wrenched on just about every aspect of them, let me know if you have any specific questions. I'll help out in any way that I can. Another notable issue, the '90's are known to experience sporadic inoperable odometers, check it closely. Tim
  13. Just found this on a VW forum that I frequent, amazing build! Look at this lucky kid with seriously talented Dad! http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/289847.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/289848.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/289849.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/289853.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/315318.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/326770.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/326771.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/346440.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/344240.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/297740.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/dsc00281sl2.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/dsc00279al7.jpg Best Picture! http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/myfast_svt/2996.jpg
  14. I obviously need to get you some pics of my car to play with, or better yet, just get the car to you to shoot.
  15. Tamron XR DI 28-300 on a Canon 30D. I'm far from a photographer but it helps a lot.
  16. A few of mine from Thursday, weather was perfect and most of the animals were out and active. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae324/SilverTwinOH/PolarBear.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae324/SilverTwinOH/PolarBear1.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae324/SilverTwinOH/YawningTiger.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae324/SilverTwinOH/StillYawningTiger.jpg
  17. We went on Thursday since my son was on spring break. Same thing on Thursday, the Polar Bears were really active. We took tons of pics but haven't uploaded anything yet.
  18. With the ALH motors, keep an eye on the timing belt service, records of intake cleanings or if the EGR has been removed or disabled. The early ALH motors had a belt that was recommended to be changed at 60K, most of the OEM belts are now rated for 100K intervals. If there is no record of intake cleanings, pull the hose to see how sooted up the intake it, it will be an easy visual verification. General chassis, bushings going out of the rear axle beam at higher mileage and the strut bearings on the front.
  19. What year of TDI? Service intervals vary by generation. I would suggest browsing http://www.tdiclub.com, tons of info there. Like most newer cars, the timing belt service is one of the more important and costly. Fluid change records and what fluids have been used is a good inquiry as well.
  20. Most likely a repost but worth posting again http://www.gifbin.com/bin/092009/1254216929_girl-on-stool.gif
  21. This is so true. Living here, I see it daily. This community could use a draw like this. It could have an impact on so many levels including the local lodging, restaurants, and many of the local small shops. Sean, nice to see your support and how actively you are taking this on.
