  2. What's more reckless, the guy driving on two wheels or the guy driving on the wrong side of the road trying to film it?
  3. The competiton is at the end of March in Gainsville, FL. There are more rules as to how much the car costs. Modifications and base price of the car are included. Tires count as an expense too. So you have to buy and build the car for $2005 or less. You can sell parts to add to your budget, but the amount you're allowed to ce-coup is limited.
  4. More info. http://www.channel4.com/4car/news/news-story.jsp?news_id=11271 Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mitsubishi's entry into the UK car market, the special edition Evo VIII MR FQ-400 is available now to order at a price of £46,999. Just 100 will be made. Developed from the MR FQ-320 by Mitsubishi Racing in partnership with tuners Rampage, Owen Developments and Flow Race Engines, the 2.0-litre turbocharged unit has been tweaked for 355lb ft of torque and 0-60mph acceleration in - wait for it - 3.5 seconds. Top speed is limited to 175mph. Yes, it's faster 0-60 than a BMW M3, and even a Porsche Carrera GT or Pagani Zonda. The extensive modifications include the addition of a custom Garrett turbocharger, an Owen custom-cast stainless steel exhaust manifold, Omega forged pistons, HKS forged con rods, HKS 680cc injectors, a Zytec high-pressure fuel pump, HKS steel head gasket, Motec M800 ECU, HKS iridium spark plugs, a JanSpeed high-flow catalyst, Alcon race-spec heavy-duty clutch, HKS head and big end bolts, and Alcon brake kit with 343mm discs. Distinguishing itself from lesser Evos, the FQ-400 also gains a carbonfibre front lip spoiler, a carbonfibre 'sharks tooth' rear vortex generator (air diffuser), gloss black lightweight alloy wheels and Ralliart mirrors. Inside, it has a Momo steering wheel and Recaro bucket seats, plus a plate next to the gearstick giving the car's production number. There's also all the usual Evo kit - climate control, electric windows - to underline its reputation as a real-life practical supercar. Mitsubishi points out that this model has undergone extensive reliability testing, and unlike 'chipped' Evos offered by independents, comes with a full three-year/36,000-mile Mitsubishi warranty.
  5. While I have to be registered to see that link you posted, I am guessing it is recent. As I said, 'last I heard,' and that was at the end of May, at the FSAE competition, from a GM engineer. It was shelved at that point...maybe it was revived. I can't wait for the auto show.
  6. Navigation and heated seats has no place in a race car. ...although I guess with 500hp you can overcome the weight penalty. Satillite radio is sweet!
  7. Engine size was almost definatively proven to be 7.0L with the spy shots of the Speed World Challenge CTS-V engines. There have been two leaked engine sizes and there is a good reason for that, but take the newest evidence into account. Also, last I heard the Blue Devil was cancelled.
  8. Hope for 60k. Considering a Z51 equipped C6 is about 54k I hope it's not too much more then 60.
  9. Ok, we all know some of what the automakers are showing this January, so lets see/hear what we know. I'll start: 2006 Z06 http://www.vettefiles.com/50th/uploader/teddbere/z06c6.jpg 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers • Cross-drilled rotors • Aluminum engine block with 104.8-mm bores and pressed-in liners • Forged steel crankshaft with 101.6-mm stroke • 6-bolt, forged steel main bearing caps • Titanium connecting rods • Cast aluminum flat-top pistons • Racing-derived CNC-ported aluminum cylinder heads with 70-cc chambers • 56mm titanium intake valves • 41mm sodium-filled exhaust valves • 11.0:1 compression ratio • Composite manifold with 90 mm single-bore throttle body • Camshaft with 15-mm (.591-inch) lift • Dry-sump oiling system • 7000-rpm redline WEIGHT: 3130lbs/1420kg 500hp/475 ft/lbs Saturn Sky Roadster http://www.saturn.com/aboutus2/news/images/sky_01.jpg I believe this is is based off the Solstice, but I thought it was going to be the "Lightning" Anyone know what Ford's showing? New Cobra Mustang? I also have heard GM may have something else 'top secret' there..anyone...
  10. Ok, there seems to be a problem with the server at work blocking e-mails from PayPal. I cannot receive any payment sent to that address since the confirmation e-mail gets blocked. Any donations will have to be sent to mallard1055@hotmail.com Sorry for this. I thought my work account would let that through.
  11. The MS Miata's are not faster (I've heard some people say they are slower) on an autox course then a regualar one. Apparently the gear ratio's aren't great for autox.
  12. Neo, you went to CAHS? When they almost closed Centennial I was about to enroll there. Did you know Jim Anderson or Joe Gaynor? They graduated your year and were friends of mine. They played on the Centennial soccer team with me.
  13. Thanks a lot. I appreciate any donation, no matter the amount.
  14. I'm on the northwest side. Bethel Rd area. I'll be home this weekend so pickup would have to be arranged for Sat or Sun. (Sun is probably better)
  15. My parents are getting rid of their entire National Geographic collection. This is every issue (maybe a few missing) from the mid 1970's to present. This is perfect for anyone that has kids in school that have to do reports. I used them many times through the years. They will be trashed if no one wants them. PM me.
  16. oh, and Neo, I realize that those may be high numbers for a 16G but I should point out that his car has more then just bolt-ons (no nitrous) and he's probably close to the limits of that turbo.
  17. Not sure what he was using, but i know a lot of guys will use web cams sending a signal to their camcorder that's in the car. Some guys go as far as putting a camara on each tire to make sure they're close enough to the cone.
  18. Didn't realize it was a ProSolo. For those of you that don't know...PROSOLO'S OWN!!! You start side-by-side from a drag racing tree and race the car next to you. You both do the same course, but on opposite sides of the lot. Usually the start is a long straight section. Basically you start an autocross with a drag race and you're head-to-head. You get a lot more runs then your average autox too. OVR is a really good region for autox, but Detroit uses the Silverdome lot. I wish we had a lot that size around here.
  19. I like that manifold...I may have something similar soon. (But I'll still be much slower) Looks good!
  20. Are you only talking about drag racing or will there be some autocrossing and open tracking too? As far as a DSM, I'm not sure you need to go 18 or 20G to be fast. My friend ran a 12.0@113 and 12.1@116 on a 16G. The car is a full interior, daily driver, and it's built to handle, not for drag racing. He's autocrossed it and done well. IMO, a properly built DSM will hold up just as well as any other race car. (Admittedly, he's about at the limit's of the 16G) A Fiero w/ a 3800S/C swap will be fast, cheap and easy to mod, and semi-cheap to fix if it's an 84-87 model. The 88's are more expensive to fix on most aspects (suspension). There are some nice handling Fiero's out there, but they are heavy and not much weight can be lost due to the space frame construction. A Miata with a 5.0L will be fast in a straight line, but I wouldn't be in favor of killing the stock Miata's weight balance if you're going for handling. Parts are plentiful.
  21. I need an 05 GTO, a roll cage, and a sawzall STAT!
