  1. I think that's the first time I've ever heard anyone call an SRT-4 "nimble in the corners." Road & Track even said that the Saturn was taking curves MUCH faster then the SRT, but the Neon had so much more power that it made the time up on the straights. Those are experienced drivers that know how to left foot brake and keep lag to a minimum. EDIT: Clarify what you mean by "granted it's no MSP or RSX, but for what it is it can hold its own." Considering an SRT would have cost me ~$5k more, I think it should do better then hold its own. [ 10. September 2004, 01:47 AM: Message edited by: Mallard ]
  2. blower = smooth power and torque delivery. Unlike the lag that is felt with the SRT-4. It may not sound like much to you, but with anything other then drag racing (like city driving, or road course racing) the lag can and will be felt, and would impact lap times (given equal hp outputs). The latest Road & Track tested the SRT-4 vs. the Ion Red Line and they commented a few times about how they liked the smooth delivery of the s/c EcoTech, and how it helped them pull out of corners faster. However, the SRT still made up for it on the straights. I will be looking forward to this car and anticipating GM/Dealer offered hop-up parts for them in order to combat the SRT.
  3. Whatever process you used to formulate this opinion is severely flawed. I'm tired of people trying to play the card in an arguement. I think it's total BS and people see what they want to see. I don't see one element on that car that is copied.

ok, if you have Imagestation you should be able to see these pics. If not I'll try to upload some more later on another server. In this album are pictures of everything included in the sale. The stock painted farings and tank are now on the bike and the ugly yellow farings just come with it. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4288342613

Yeah...not the most recent pics though. Let me find some room to upload them and I'll get them up later today.
  6. I'd be pissed if I spent money on a Carerra S and regular Carrera could keep up with me.
  7. I think it's more of a design compromise from trying to fit everything in a tight space. Therefore there are tight tolerances on the clutch/disc/flywheel package and short pedal travel is the result. (My gripe with the CTS-V is that the clutch begins to catch when the pedal is barely off the floor, aka low pedal reserve.) The shifter is fine. But only fine.
  8. I beleive they'll go for 16-21k (ballpark from a base Cobalt to as SS) You can look at them on www.chevrolet.com [ 31. August 2004, 07:46 AM: Message edited by: Mallard ]

I have 4k in it, it was for sale at $3500OBO earlier this summer. Make me an offer I can't refuse.
  10. Actually GM Performance Division should have some nice things out for it. I was told by a higher up at GM that the SS would have 280hp and they wanted it to beat the SRT-4. My guess is that hp will come through dealer supplied performance packages, much like Mopar has. The EcoTech has also had a few years of racing development under its belt and there's a lot of stuff out from GM for it. As for the clutch, there are things that can be done for pedal feel. Same with the shifter. I work for the company that makes the Ion clutch and the SS probably will be the same, but the feel can be helped while still using most of the same hardware. I am also fairly critical of those aspects. After driving a CTS-V my only gripes were clutch and shifter feel. It's something that's hard to get right, but for some reason my $16k Protege has it right, while a $50k sports sedan doesn't.

  13. I've been back since the second week of July But I'm done forever in about 4 weeks!!!
  14. #1: English is your friend tongue.gif #2: Yes, they are on the same PLATFORM, but the beautiful thing about platform engineering is that 2 cars can drive completely different. The interior of the Cobalt if 40376239854089437855 times better then the Ion. The lack of plactic body panals helps body gaps, appearance, and NVH. The suspension can modified differently, and they coud generally refine a lot of the things that the Ion lacks. The problem is not the clutch par-se, but the pedal feel. The shifter was rubbery. etc. These are all minor details that can be fixed, and I'm hoping they have.

It's time again to post my bike for sale. I have over $4000 invested in it and know I cannot get that much out of it. Make me a good offer and I'll probably accept it. I have not ridden the bike since last fall since I'm not at home much anymore. The engine ran fine when I put it away, but I have a feeling a plug wire needs to be replaced. (Buddy of mine f-d one up when pulling a spark plug.) There's a lot included and I'd consider selling it without some of the stuff for less (like the extra wheels), but I'm sure someone could part out the extra stuff on eBay fairly easily. Again, make me an offer if interested. Some trades maybe considered, but not really looking for one. 1994 ZX9R with a full Muzzy enhaust and a jet kit that I bought at the beginning of last summer. The bike needs some work and I was attempting to do it on my own. However, I do not have the time to complete this project. The previous owner dropped the bike, patched the faring and repainted the entire bike with a yellow spray can. I'll be honest, this paint job sucks. I did not like the way it looked so I started buying used bodywork with matching stock colors. (Pearl White, Purple and Green) I have a complete tail section with integrated turn signals, left faring, upper faring and gas tank all in good condition. I also have a tank bra that matchs the stock paint scheme. (Second Look I think). I also have a second set of wheels that I stripped and started sanding/polishing. At this point the wheels have been stripped and I started sanding them down. The buy price gets you: 94 ZX9R w/ yellow body work pictured with a Full Muzzy Exhaust and Jet Kit, Stock painted: Left Faring, Upper Faring, Tail Section, Gas Tank, Matching Second Look tank bra, Second set of wheels prepped for polishing, second set of rotors (used), and the Factory Service Manual and a color Hanes manual. If you want to see anything specific please e-mail me at mall8469@kettering.edu Condition: I have replaced all the farings and gas tank with the stock colored parts. The only panal that is not the stock color is the right side faring. When the previous owner dropped the bike he damaged the left faring and the upper faring (on the left side). He fixed these poorly but are complete. The handle bar took the brunt of the fall and the force cracked the top yoke of the triple tree. The crack is not growing so it's not in any immenent danger of breaking but I have a new/used triple clamp ready to go on. I was going to replace this when I did the fork seals, but I just don't have time. The fork seals need to be replaced. I have all the parts needed and they are included. The clutch is new. I just replaced it with a kevlar unit. Second gear will not engage properly. This is a bent shift fork (a common problem on Kawasaki's) and I have not had time to deal with this problem. There are no gears grinding, it just pops out of second. When this happened I just skip shifted from 1 to 3. The front tire is new (Bridgestone) and the rear needs to be replaced. (It's a Dunlop at the moment) Engine runs great, and sounds great with the Muzzy!
  16. Anthony...why exactly do you have this picture in the first place??? graemlins/gay.gif
  17. The thing I was most impressed with besides the quality of the interior on the SS was the feel and sound when I opened and closed the door. No rattles, no squeaks, didn't feel cheap, the car felt solid. And Chris, again, I agree with you 100%. The 9-3 was on my short list when I went shopping for a car.
  18. That's because there are no stock boosted EcoTech's on the street. (Besides the Saab 9-3 and Ion Redline. The Saab is hardly a 'tuner' car, and the Ion has only been released recently) Give it more time and you'll see it happen. All that matters is that is was proven possible. I don't care if it was factory backed or not.

  20. I completely agree with Chris. The Cobalt SS is a much better car. (out this fall) I drove the Red Line and compared to my Mazda I was only impressed with the seats. The clutch sucked, the shifter sucked, and the handling didn't come close. The Cobalt SS has a MUCH nicer interior, looks a lot better, has the same engine (205hp) and is boostable to at least 280hp. (probably performance packages from the dealer) The stock EcoTech internals are good to ~500hp, I'm told. [ 29. August 2004, 01:25 AM: Message edited by: Mallard ]

  22. Not with Lutz around. He said that if they want the Corvette to be top dog, they have to give it more power too. So they are. Hence why the Z06 is 'rumored' to be 500 hp.
