I posted a lot of this in my gremlin build thread but as an update to this thread... I bought a "650" double pumper off of craigslist as it appeared to be a good deal... having a hard time indentifying for sure what it is. The metering blocks say it is a 700 dp. If anything it is smaller than a 750 and can be a parts carb/practice carb for my hanger18 blow through modifications when the time comes... In the meantime, I disabled the secondaries on the installed/converted hp750 and tried to tune the primary using shooters and different accelerator pump cams. After much trial and error and pump cam curve analysis, I came up with the blue cam in position 2 with a 31 shooter and then after connecting the secondary linkage a green in position one in the back with a 40 shooter. The dead spot was pretty much eliminated from a standstill (Knock on Wood) and it absolutely murders the one rear tire now. I then read that the hp main body is setup for a 4 corner idle adjustable carb and I only have 2 adjustments in the front. Apparently it was discovered by this fellow that by switching the high speed secondary air bleed for one the size of a non-hp 750 he had much better idle and throttle response... so I put a set of 28s in place of the 75s as he did and tried it out. It did seem to idle better and have a little better off idle response... In order to try and band-aid this oversized carb situation further I bought a linkage to be able to adjust the secondaries for idle from the top rather than pulling the carb every time. I cracked open the back and reduced the front opening to prime the rear transfer slots and it seems to run pretty well now. I did have a situation where the dead-spot was back once from a mid throttle cruise with a stiff punch but I am wondering if that was at the point of the primary to secondary transition on this little engine and the transfer slots couldn't make up for the load of the high rear gears... who knows. It will have limited slip 3.73s in it the next time I pull it out of the garage so this could all be for naught. It does pop in the tailpipes after tuning the accelerator pump circuit which I believe is now indicative of an over-rich condition??? But I feel I can now make a clean run from a standstill... Any thoughts?

I dropped the Explorer 8.8 off with Gary Horn at Babbitt Bearing to be narrowed, axle tubes welded, and 9" ends welded on. He is working on it as I type this and last week before the turkey festivities I rebuilt the 31 spline track-lok carrier with a set of the cobra carbon fiber clutches. Going to try the 3.73s that I bought it with as they look to be in good shape and I have no idea what ratio will be ideal at this point.. anything will be an improvement over the 2.56s in there... Once I get it in I will probably have to go back into the carb as it's now more ideal for a double pumper.. (light car, high stall, lower rear gear). More pictures are needed for sure- I apologize for that for anyone reading this.... I have a few from the cam swap I can upload and I guess I could scan a few timeslips.. I

I ended up purchasing a "650" double pumper from craigslist. Upon closer inspection, the carb is impossible to identify as the identifying list number was on the milled choke horn. The number listed on the metering block identifies it as a 700 double pumper... I tried measuring the venturis from the top but the boosters are in the way for an accurate measurement. The venturis are not equal sized front to back so it is not a 750, but other than that I am at a loss. In the meantime I disabled the secondaries on the installed/converted hp750 and tried to tune the primary using shooters and different accelerator pump cams. After much trial and error and pump cam curve analysis I came up with the blue cam in position 2 with a 31 shooter and then after connecting the secondary linkage a green in position one in the back with a 40 shooter. To those of you that are shooting HST are you using the +P 147gr or standard 124gr?

Hey all- For a Glock 19 9mm. Looking at Cor-bon +P http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/2-COR09115 Federal HST... can only find hydrashocks which is not the same, correct? Anyone have a link? Hornady Critical Defense http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/9-52148 which is currently not available I currently have Winchester PDX and Hornady TAP currently- both seem to fire fine to me.... the PDX is hard to find but I seem to prefer it to the TAP seems smoother to me hehe ALSO How many defense rounds do you keep on hand? I have 15 defense shotgun shells and 47 9mm defense rounds between me and the end of the world currently... lately I have been feeling I need more ... definitely more target rounds...

nice! I miss our old one- good luck!

Yep! Gary Horn of Babbit Bearing. I went with him on your, Matt Crosby, and crawdad's recommendations..

Thanks all... well I dropped it off last week with Gary. Went for the 9" ends and axles in the 31 spline big tube explorer 8.8, welded tubes, and narrowed to my measurements. Putting the ford carbon fiber clutch pak in the trak lok myself and should be good to go- at least good enough to try the 3.73 ratio out in the quarter... that is after I get it in there... 550-650 rwhp in a ~2700 lb automatic vehicle without a transbrake on 10.5 tires. Probably could have skated by on two short factory axles and caliper brackets as my axle retention device but better safe than sorry and I would rather only do this once.

Hey all- Do you run a Flexplate/Torque converter bottom dust shield on your cars/trucks? Mine is chrome and has slotted holes and I must have bumped it when I changed the oil filter as it was making contact with the flexplate and making a terrible sound. I removed it and asked the guy at Jegs if they make a specialized one without slotted holes so that it would be held in position better. He said noone runs them as they aren't necessary and only lock in heat. Is this accurate? Thanks! Andrew

Any entry level welding jobs out there?
hpfiend replied to Ry_Trapp01647545522's topic in The Meat Market
I would suggest you drop off a small welding sample with your resume as they will be more interested in that than a fancy piece of paper. In these fields probably almost as good as "who you know". Also if you are single or dont mind traveling/being away from home for a while-if you can stick weld well just follow the pipelines- that's where most of the guys I went to school with at Lincoln were heading. Good Luck and keep us posted! -

yeah they have the best deal by far on bumper plates in town... to the OP- if you can run bead well and have half a sense of responsibility you will never have work problems- really without the responsibility you are keen but it couldn't hurt. Skilled trades are in unbelieveable short supply in our country- I have a bachelors degree (cum laude, honors, etc) from a top 20 university and a masters degree to boot in a related field and I feel strongly that I would be more employable from the GTAW/TIG certification I received from Lincoln Welding if I should find myself jobless sometime soon. -
Ok everyone, Thanks for your interest and comments! I have passed them on and she is going to see what she can do about revising the webpage to make it more clear. Meanwhile, for the admission price you will receive three spa services of your choice- one one hour service (manicure, pedicure, or facial), one 30 minute full body massage, and one 30 minute eccentric service (accupunture, reflexology, specific body part massage). Figuring on the average market price of these services that is about 120.00 of value- if you use more high end prices (IE Penzones) it would be a lot more. Also the first 10 people to sign up get a facial as well which is another 40.00 to be used later. Those prices are from my weak memory but ask any person who uses these services regularly and they will know this is a really good deal. The tickets have been selling quickly but as of this morning, there were still some of the free facials remaining. In addition to the services, every attendee will receive wine (2 glasses if I remember correctly) and there will be a large buffet style food offering ranging from Great Harvest Bread to Moretti's Italian food. Attendees will be able to listen to live chamber music, and have access to a unique silent auction with good deals on items ranging from a date night package to fine jewelery from Worthington Jewelers. I am sure I am forgetting something... feel free to pm me or post if you have any more questions/comments and I will relay them to her. Thanks again!

Hey all- My wife is in charge of a charitable event in early November that is basically a largely discounted choose your own multiple item spa package (massage/facials/pedicure/manicure/etc) with food and entertainment included in the ticket price. She asked if I would list it on here to see if anyone was interested for themselves or their significant other. Proceeds go the Elizabeth Blackwell Center a division of ohio health/riverside that provides a variety of support to people from new mothers to people dealing with loss, stress management, exercise classes, etc at little to no charge. http://www.regonline.com/eveningofrelaxation
