  2. Sorry for lack of an update. The carport is done and does exactly what I expected it to do. Over the last couple of windy, rainy fall days, the Lincoln's nose and tail have gotten some sideways raindrops, but the main cabin is dry. CTS-V is dry as well. Again, main focus was in getting sun/rain/snow off the cars, so it's doing a great job. I still need to do a final inspection with the City of UA, and I am going to make an appeal to NOT have to do a dry well (which the city inspector said I could easily get away with a rain barrel). Time to work the charm. I'm proud that I went through all this effort, though it was a bear of a job.

  5. +1 to the points above. This morning, I was looking at Columbus' "Amazon HQ2" submission (posted in Columbus Business First) and I thought the same thing as Brandon: I'm hoping Precourt doesn't know something we don't know about where they are going. I also see coverage on COTA, Austin Music Festivals, etc and I am jealous of the activity in that city. I do love Columbus and anything like this that can elevate our stature on a global stage would be welcome. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2017/10/20/columbus-amazon-pitch-includes-incentives-an.html?ana=e_ae_set1&s=article_du&ed=2017-10-20&u=lcAk5Whw9aw4bexeEj%2BA0Q0342b143&t=1508771387&j=79028881 My concern to our post - playing to Carl's comment above - is that a lot of the infrastructure is a "promise-to-deliver", not something already in place. Two items I see as seriously valuable for us as opposed to anything TX is: - cheap cost-of-living - everything Texas is SPRAWL. It's difficult to consider a focused area with ready access to mass-transit because it's friggin' highway ribbons as far as the eye can see around any major cities I've visited down there for work.
  6. There's an older woman who DD's a silver Avanti II that lives just north of the golf course near us. I'm impressed when I see it, but cringe as it's definitely an ugly 2-door-into-4-door conversion. I'm guessing it's '80s because of the rectangular headlights. I know it's a Chevy V8 but it oil-smokes a good amount, too. The older, 2-doors are very attractive. 4-doors are paper-baggers.
  7. What amazing car times we live in, indeed!!!
  8. I am liking the Mercedes option...taking something that was originally a refined, teutonic autobahn cruiser and show-upping car, ripping it's spine out like a Mortal Kombat fatality move, and draping it's face on the frame of a race car. On that note, I just opened up this months' Road and Track and was remindeed of the "Red Sow" (awaiting Kerry's feverish response with historical copy/pasting). http://www.car137.com/2010/04/mercedes-benz-300sel-red-sow.html http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_cOgOgAHQIWY/S91CutbWayI/AAAAAAAAAoE/bzsUpfM3UKU/s1600/1920x1200-amg-racing-saloon.jpg Mercedes W108/W109 chassis...108-112in wheelbase but 71in width. Find a slightly rusty one (but still with some tank-thick metal panels), rip the bumpers off, do the transplant and throw some Hella's on the front. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W108 What about a W114/W115? There are a lot of rusty-rockered sub-$1500 of those around...especially in non-turbo diesel variants. 108" wheelbase and around 70" width. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W114
  9. I was thinking about going out...then ended up grabbing a movie with my kids and fell asleep at 11pm. #gettingold
  10. HERE'S THE THING.... We're saying that the car culture isn't like what it was in the early 2000s (may be true), but if you go to meets, C&Cs, and watch videos, the flash of the 90s/00s has been replaced by sleepers, rat rods, and drift missles. If street racing isn't popular, then drags, drifting and autoX'ing definitely is. Haggard Garage and other YouTubers find cheap ways to have fun and go fast in cars. It's not about nitrous parts and custom paint; it's about getting the look for dirt. Roadkill/Hot Rod Garage/anything coming from TEN*? Some super-high dollar stuff, but wrenching on anything you can get your hands on. NasCarlo? Rotsun? Make that stuff run and then get it to perform. * = http://www.enthusiastnetwork.com/ Paint is still popular, but overwhelmingly REAL car guys prefer function and individuality over form....and I, for one, love it. Sorry if House of Kolor isn't selling as many gallons of pearl paint as DipYourCar is selling plasti-dip, but at least the hobby is strong...just in a different capacity.
  11. I am unrealisticly holding out hope that we win Amazon HQ2...sooo many good things going on in our city and region. If not C'Bus, then maybe Cleveland or Cincy? As I've gotten older I've realized what's good for Ohio (other cities, too) is good for Columbus. https://www.brookings.edu/blog/the-avenue/2017/09/08/which-cities-are-well-positioned-to-land-amazons-hq2/
  12. Looks good! Add Konig center caps on the wheels and fix the rust spot on the hood and enjoy it. I wouldn't spend that much money making it a F&F "Tribute Car". TOO SOON, JUNIOR. If you had $8k, I would say go for a clean '70s Land Yacht with some custom touches.
  13. Why does nothing on BallotPedia show up when I click these Issue links?
  14. I dunno about spending $8k on one... I am a fan of the SE-R SpecV doe.
  15. Wait...what? Why would I pay $40k+ for a used CTS-V with a plastic interior when I can find one fully depreciated and well-maintained for Civic money within a few years? Facebook likes don't pay the note. Twitter followers don't help me save money to go to FL. People paying for depreciation are all the dumbs, son. Now...used Tesla Model S's are the shizz and I don't have $40k+ for one, but my 'rents do.
  16. Left circle is the old Union Tool and Die site...to be developed. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2017/08/08/exclusive-23-acre-arena-district-resort-style.html The north circle is Jeffrey Park/Italian Village site...to be developed. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2016/02/16/developer-to-build-6-more-high-end-homes-at.html BTW, this was knowledge of city neighborhoods and landmarks, and simple google searching with "real estate development" next to it. Point is, for Columbus, OH...downtown development will be mixed-use residential/flex office space/street-level parking garages or retail to allow Millennials and Gen Z's a place downtown that they can live, work, and walk to amenities. They pay rent every month. The businesses pay rent every month. People pay for parking. It's not a stadium with a choppy income stream.
  17. Holy sh*t...turn around and sell it in the spring for $10K Looks awesome!
  18. Soccer banged his mom and won't call her back.:gabe: I appreciate all of the Monday-morning quarterbacking the business community is doing, asking questions about what happened, but the Columbus Foundation flat out offered to buy 50% of the Crew from Precourt. We met with them in September and the idea of sponsorship was floated but we don't have the budget for it. Precourt overpaid for the franchise in 2013 because he wanted to win in C'Bus or move to Austin...all along. I'm not salty about Precourt: bidness is bidness. He will get a newer stadium there. Newer stadium should get butts in the seats. He's not getting a new stadium up here, paid for by a city still paying for an Arena where a prison once stood (good investment of public money, IMO) unless the private sector steps up in a major way. The attendance is still supes low. I go to 1-2 games a year and I drink Land Grants until I can't feel my butt and the drone of vuvuzelas goes away. I love the Nordecke nut-jobs...raise a glass to those super fans every game. It's a great franchise, but the owner is in f**king SAN FRANCISCO...he's going to make a business call, not a keeping-it-local call. Remember the NFL...... http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/nfl-new-stadiums-public-funding-how-much-atlanta-san-diego-minnesota-los-angeles-033116
  19. So, my parents dropped a bombshell on me that - in their early 70s - they want to buy a used Model S. They test-drove my FiL's 85D and fell in love. Are there any good resources aside from the common eBay/Cars/Autotrader sites for used Tesla's?
  20. Good call. I can't tell you how much Crew Soccer Stadium, LLC brings in from Rock on the Range... ...but it's a lot.
  21. Supposedly it's 2019... http://www.espnfc.com/columbus-crew-sc/story/3231574/columbus-crew-sc-exploring-relocation-to-austintx
  22. I had a campout in Hocking Hills, but meant to go out this year. Will be interesting as I've gotten a few emails/FB messages asking if CC&C is still going on. This Saturday is supposed to be gorgeous so should be a good turnout at Lennox.
  23. My understanding is that the Univ of Texas would let them use their football stadium...
