The "blame game" is ALWAYS a race to the bottom. It's gonna get uglier.

From my time in FL, I can tell you that warmer weather year-round relaxes people. SCENARIO: You'll talk to your buddy about going out on the boat this weekend. Come Friday, your buddy says he can't make it this weekend and we'll have to reschedule. Thought processes go as follows: In OH: "Man, how many good weekends do we have left this season?? We need to get together before Labor Day, it'll start getting colder, maybe it'll stay warm but will I need to put the boat in storage? Maybe we can stretch the season out. Uh oh, what if the kids' sports kick in? Man, why do I even have this boat if I never get to use it!" In FL: "No problem! We can always do it another weekend." Knowing that you never have a "down season" for construction/outdoor sports/hobbies is a really nice thing: there's ALWAYS "next weekend"... The funny thing about being around retirees in FL was this same, stressed-out, Northern-scheduled mindset: Snowbirds get to FL around Thanksgiving and they have seemingly everything already scheduled. They can't make it this weekend because they're seeing so-and-so, then next weekend they have XXXX family coming in from Illinois to stay with them, then they have their friends they get with every Tuesday, and this is every Wednesday....... it's stressful just hearing them talk about it! Also depressing to think that, for someone in their 70s, how many more winters did they have in FL? They were stressing their lives away right to the grave, even surrounded by a beautiful and incredibly relaxing environment.

Playing in the Streets, what's it take these days?
zeitgeist57 replied to 99StockGT's topic in Passing Lane
There are still avenues...but anyone frequenting a car forum falls under a certain demographic/personality trait. You're not going to get someone that loves the "instant-response" of social media onto a private vBB board that's locally funded. Older guys generally keep in touch through the same car shows/cruises that they were attending before the Internet: face-to-face and phone/email conversations. Younger car guys largely stay connected through social media and face-to-face events promoted through the same channel. Those of us currently 30-55 fill the gap, and often feel out of touch with both groups older and younger than us. I feel it's a part of just getting older: we're no longer the youngest demographic setting the trends. Fast and Furious is going on to it's 9th movie, but junkyard digging is also a dying art. It's interesting to see what trends rise and fall. What's it take to run the streets? Lots of HP and tire, same as it ever was. -
Is it the CARS you're bored with in your life? Get another hobby? #ohiowinter #earlycabinfever Change your perspective: buy an off-roader? Don't sell the Camaro. Put the Imp and C5 on the chopping block if necessary (don't sell the Vette).

I would agree with the "DSM concept" - get a relatively lightweight platform, boost the garbage out of a performance engine, strip the interior, work the suspension/tires/brakes and go hunting. C5 Corvette would be where I'd start looking, if you have to buy a platform to start with. -

Whatever you want to run, you won't keep up with JP. Thank Cthulhu that he's all the way up in Cleveland. #literbike -
Pick-N-Pull? Haven't been in forever...any "runners" out there?
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Tech and Tips
I checked their site earlier and there are 7 '80-'96 F-150s on the lot. Good thing I have a somewhat common platform to work with Agreed that if I was looking for parts for something sportier/rare there wouldn't be a chance that Pick-N-Pull would have anything worthwhile. The last time I went there a few years ago looking just for steel wheels it felt like I was in some dystopian movie scene. That's when I went to CCAP and was happy to pay a premium for picked and cleaned parts. Might just suck it up and stick with http://www.car-part.com. -
Smart move keeping the 6. Wagon with a stick never goes out of style/usefulness.

After almost selling Cleetus this past weekend but disappointed with a couple of tee-ruks I looked at, I'm recommitted to fixing the old girl up with some body rust repair, suspension work, and overall refresh to make it a good winter beater-with-a-heater and get it ready for a repaint in the spring. It's been FOREVER since I've been to Pick-N-Pull, as I've used http://www.car-part.com for any used parts that I've needed (CCAP, Woody's). However, the prices for F-150 parts are a little ridic at some of these junk yards - $75-200 for torn bench seats??? Dented and rusted tailgates for $125+?? I'm laughing at the idea of taking my Allen Edmonds off and wading out into a self-service lot for used parts as it's been awhile, but will definitely do so in the coming weeks if needed. Does anyone still on CR go to Pick-N-Pull on Groveport Road? Can I get a wishlist for some F-150 parts if someone's already going? Will pay finders' fee... Just seeing who still stops by there from time to time, depending on their projects.

+100. Love seeing 6-fig cars fully depreciated 7-10 years later.
-
I do laugh whenever I see some car - like the Camaro Z28 - sporting dem 20TW P-Zero Trofeo R tires. "Here's your fastest lap time. Try not to touch the tir...dammit! I told you not to touch the tire! Good luck getting that sticky compound off your hands. Oh, also...try not to drive for more than 150 miles on the highway or else you'll be down to the steel belts."

That's a completely different box of frogs.

Brian, wait until Miles gets older. Around grade school, the events add up after you get home from work. After doing whatever is needed as scheduled by my wife, my time happens after kids go to bed around 9pm. Will try to get together with friends locally or go downtown (I still love 16-Bit) or I'll watch YT (subbed to Motor Trend, TheSmokingTire, etc...) or listen to Spotify as I do stuff around the house or garage. 3-4 days a week I work out around 11ish. Aside from whatever wife is watching when I go to bed around midnight, I hardly watch any "TV" or movies these days. No gaming aside from old-school arcades. With winter coming up, I'll probably step up my movie/Amazon/Netflix watching.

I agree with Meeler...but is that a bad thing that the Viper forced Corvette engineers/brass to step up their game significantly??? 2018 Mustang GT comes with 460hp factory. Probably wouldn't be doing that if the Camaro/Challenger weren't doing the same. #MAGA

I backed away from the replacement truck. Pulling it for now. Thanks to everyone who showed interest!

Yeah, that truck is stupid nice condition! It makes me almost a little crazy, in that you need to COAT THE ENTIRE UNDERBODY before rust starts eating away at that thing. ...and get some historical tags on it ASAP!

Well played. Teddy Roosevelt would approve of this message.

But....are you guys paying $1000 for a phone?!?!

Will. 614Streets. Man, I'll never forget that guy.

I agree that the fastest cars you can buy today are all automatics, but I know I'll always have a stick-shift car/truck to drive. Always.
